Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Pittsburgh Pirates vs New York Mets

The Mets will welcome the Pirates to Citi Field as both teams will go head to head in a 3 game series starting Monday. The Mets are 4th in the NL East while the Pirates are 4th in the NL Central division. This will be their first meeting this season.

All 3 games will be played at 7:10 PM ET

Pittsburgh Pirates's Latest Performance :

The Pirates will begin their 9 game road trip against the Mets in a 3 game set. The Pirates are on the verge of losing out yet another series against the D-Backs. Playing against the struggling Mets would allow the team to regain their confidence back. The Pirates are now 4th in the NL Central division, they are 15-20 when playing on the road this year. Coming into this series the Pirates are 11th in batting with 337 runs scored this season and 20th in pitching with a 4.20 ERA. The Pirates are now three games below .500 for the second time this season. In baseball, it is not a guaranteed win if your starting pitcher pitches well, it is also up to the bullpen whether they can close the game or not they play a crucial part in a teams victory as well.

Player to watch in this series: Austin Meadows went 2-for-5 with a walk and a stolen base. The rookie is having a fantastic year he now has a .343 average and a .958 OPS in 108 plate appearances. He is the only bright spot on the Pirates offense right now hopefully he can get some help from his fellow batters and push to for a winning record again. He has done a great job filling in for Dickerson as I expect him to take advantage of the struggling Mets at home.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Josh Bell and Franciso Cervelli both have 36.
  • Homers: Franciso Cervelli, Starling Marte, and Gregory Polanco all have 9.
  • Batting Average: Corey Dickerson (.302)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Jameson Taillon, he allowed three earned runs over five innings in a loss to the Brewers at home. Both of Taillon’s career starts vs. the Mets came in his rookie season when he allowed three runs on eight hits and three walks over 14 innings.

Game 2: Chad Kuhl, he struggled through his worst start of the season, and may have been tipping his pitches, as he allowed eight runs while recording only six outs against Arizona on Thursday. Kuhl has posted a 4.08 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in seven road starts this year.

Game 3: Ivan Nova, he was handed a no-decision after tossing eight scoreless innings with eight strikeouts Friday versus the Diamondbacks. He has been on a great roll of late, allowing one earned run or fewer in three straight starts he now owns a 3.98 ERA as he will close things out for the Pirates against the Mets on the road.

New York Mets's Latest Performance :

The Mets will cap off a 6 game homestand as they will be playing against the Pirates in a 3 game series. The Mets are a very bad team at home this season they are 13-22 on the season. They are now 11 1/2 games back of the division leader Braves and it is starting to look like a lost season for the Mets after starting the year off so well sometimes teams just lose the momentum they have at the start of the season and revert back to their old habits. They fall to a season-worst 11 games under .500. Coming into this series the Mets are 21st in pitching with a 4.23 ERA and 25th in batting with 285 runs scored this season.

Player to watch in this series: Jose Bautista, he went 2-for-4 with his first homer in a Mets uniform, I expect many more to come from him. The homer was a two-run shot against Alex Wood in the sixth inning. It ended up being the only offense of the night for New York. The Mets offense is nowhere to be seen. The Mets are hoping that they can turn things around when they welcome the Pirates to Citi Field. Bautista is slashing .205/.372/.386 the newest member of the team will thrive under new circumstances.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Asdrubal Cabrera (41)
  • Homers: Asdrubal Cabrera and Brandon Nimmo both have 12.
  • Batting Average: Brandon Nimmo (.282)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Seth Lugo, he allowed six runs three earned and six hits with two walks and five strikeouts across three innings in a no-decision Wednesday at Colorado. He is now 2-2 on the season with a 2.85 and 1.04 WHIP.

Game 2: Steven Maltz, he has been one of the Mets’ best pitchers, posting a 3.10 ERA since the start of May. Matz allowed two runs in five innings in his only previous career start against the Pirates.

Game 3:  Zack Wheeler surrendered four runs in seven innings of work in Friday’s loss to the Dodgers. He hasn’t won a start since April 29 he hopes to turn things around in the rubber game against the Pirates.

How Pittsburgh Pirates & New York Mets Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Mets are 7-20 in their last 27 games vs. a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30.

Pirates are 2-5 in their last 7 when their opponent scores 2 runs or less in their previous game.

Against The Spread Selection: Pittsburgh Pirates

My reason for the pick :

The Pirates should take the series 2-1 on the road against the Mets. The Pirates will be able to take advantage of how bad the Mets are at home. Game 2 will be going to the Mets courtesy of Maltz he will do a terrific job holding his ground but it won’t be enough to will the Mets team to a series victory. Game 1&3 will be going to the Pirates as they will do all they can to have a winning record and give them a chance to compete in the NL Central division. The Pirates do have the talent to make it happen they just have to do a better job at closing out games.

Betting trends for Pittsburgh Pirates:

  • Pirates are 1-4 in their last 5 overall.

Betting trends for New York Mets:

  • Mets are 7-20 in their last 27 home games.
