Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Seattle Mariners vs Baltimore Orioles

The Orioles will welcome the Mariners to Oriole Park as both teams will be going head to head in a 4 game series starting Monday. The Orioles are in the last place of the AL East while the Mariners are 2nd in the AL West division. This will be their first meeting of the season.

Game 1-3: 7:05 PM ET

Game 4: 3:05 PM ET

Seattle Mariners's Latest Performance :

The Mariners are currently on a National East 10 game road trip as they will cap it off by playing the O’s in a four-game series. The Mariners will be able to ease through this series after going up against the Yankees and the Red Sox prior to this 4 game series. Due to the tough schedule, the Mariners are now 3 1/2 back of the Astros. It was the second time the Mariners have blown a 5 run lead on this East Coast road trip. Playing the O’s on the road will give the Mariners a chance to close the gap. Coming into this series the Mariners are 13th in batting with 335 runs scored this season and 16th in pitching with a 4.09 ERA.

Player to watch in this series: Nelson Cruz, he went 4-for-5 with two homers and seven RBI. He connected for a pair of three-run homers (in the first and fourth innings) and also drove in a run with a single in the second. He has hit safely in six straight games and now finds himself tied for fourth in the majors with 20 homers. He is slashing .266/.351/.562 on the season, the O’s are in trouble in this series as I project that Cruz will put up all-star numbers against the O’s on the road.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Mitch Haniger (55)
  • Homers: Nelson Cruz (20)
  • Batting Average: Jean Segura (.334)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Felix Hernandez, he has pitched better of late, allowing two or fewer runs in three of his last four starts. He’s 4-1 with a 3.09 ERA in seven career starts at Camden Yards. He has a career-high ERA of 5.24.

Game 2: James Paxton, he has been one of the AL’s top starters this season, but he is coming off two games in which he allowed 14 hits and 10 runs in 7 1/3 innings against the Red Sox and Yankees. The lefty was 5-0 with a 1.98 ERA in his previous nine starts. He will get an easier matchup this time around when he is playing against the O’s on the road.

Game 3: Wade LeBlanc, he was tagged for a season-high six runs over 4 2/3 innings Friday against the Red Sox. He has been a pleasant surprise for the Mariners but he still owns a 3.26 ERA as he will take the mound for the Orioles on Wednesday.

Game 4: Mike Leake, he allowed five earned runs, eight hits and a walk with just one strikeout over six innings in his last outing. He is now 7-4 on the season with a 4.47 ERA and 1.28 WHIP.

Baltimore Orioles's Latest Performance :

The Orioles will be back at Oriole Park for a 7 game homestand beginning Monday. The homestand opens with a four-game series against the Mariners. The O’s have one of the worst home records of the Major they are 11-23 on the season. The Orioles are coming off a surprise road win over the Braves. They are hoping to carry over the momentum they had in the series opener into their homestand. Coming into this series the O’s are 27th in pitching with a 4.85 ERA and 28th in batting with 270 runs scored this season.

Player to watch in this series: Manny Machado, he struck a go-ahead two-run homer in the 15th inning in his last time out, he has been playing on another level for the O’s this season and he has been involved in various trade rumors most recently with the D-Backs. He went 2-for-5 on the night with two walks, two runs scored, and a stolen base while slashing 305/.374/.561 batting line with 19 homers and 55 RBI over 73 games. He leads in the team in RBIs, Homers and batting average.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Manny Machado (55)
  • Homers: Manny Machado (19)
  • Batting Average: Manny Machado (.305)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Andrew Cashner, he tossed four scoreless innings against the Nationals, unfortunately, his effort had to stop because of the rain. He surrendered three hits without issuing a walk and striking out two. He is  2-8 with a 4.72 ERA. His 1.64 WHIP.

Game 2: Kevin Gausman, he limited the Nationals to two runs over six innings in a no-decision Thursday. He is 3-6 on the season with a 4.38 through 15 starts. He’s still winless since May 11, a fact he’ll look to change Tuesday against a tough Mariners team at home.

Game 3: Alex Cobb, he didn’t factor into the decision after limiting the Braves to one run over seven innings on Friday. He holds a 6.56 ERA and 1.63 WHIP on the year.

Game 4: Dylan Bundy, he gave up four runs over six innings while striking out five in a win over the Marlins on Sunday. He has a 3.81 ERA and 1.19 WHIP as he will close things out for the O’s in the 4 game series.

How Seattle Mariners & Baltimore Orioles Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Orioles are 26-71 in their last 97 overall.

Mariners are 0-5 in their last 5 vs. American League East.

Against The Spread Selection: Seattle Mariners

My reason for the pick :

The Mariners should be able to end this East Coast road trip on the right foot by defeating the O’s on the road 3-1. The Mariners will not miss the opportunity to cut into the gap and be within reach of the top spot in the division. The O’s will continue to struggle at home as they will have no answer for the Mariners. Manny Machado will have a great individual stat line but him alone won’t be able to beat a very strong Mariners team who potentially can make the postseason this year.

Game 1, 2 & 4 will go to the Mariners while game 3 will go to the O’s.

Betting trends for Seattle Mariners:

  • Mariners are 0-4 in their last 4 road games.

Betting trends for Baltimore Orioles:

  • Orioles are 11-40 in their last 51 vs. a team with a winning record.
