Washington Nationals vs Tampa Bay Rays

The Rays will welcome the Nationals to Tropicana Field as both teams will go head to head in an interleague 2 game series starting on Monday. The Rays are 4th in the AL East while the Nationals are 2nd in the NL East division. This will be their second meeting of the year in the first meeting the Nationals ended up sweeping the Rays at home.

Game 1: 7:10 PM ET

Game 2: 12:10 PM ET

Washington Nationals's Latest Performance :

The Nationals will begin their 6 game road on Monday. First, they will be taking on the Rays in a 2 game series. The Nationals have now dropped into 3rd place of the NL East division after they were leading the division a month ago, with the blowout loss against the Phillies the Nationals are now 3 games back of the division leader Braves they have now lost 8 of their last 11 games. Playing against the Rays will allow them to regain their confidence they are 22-15 on the road this season. Coming into this series the Nationals are 22nd in batting with 312 runs scored this season and have dropped to 6th in pitching with an ERA of 3.52. They will have to stay within arm’s length and must not allow the Braves to have a comfortable lead on top of the division.

Player to watch in this series: Michael Taylor went 1-for-4 with an RBI double, a run scored, and a stolen base.  He currently leads the majors with 22 steals. He’s already established a new career-high, topping his 17 steals from last year. He produced a mediocre .243/.307/.396 batting line on the year, but he’s been excellent over the past month. He must continue to play well for the Nationals if he wants to keep his position on the team with the surge of Juan Soto, he continues to impress and hold his own through 28 games in the bigs, batting .323/.420/.594 with six homers, 16 RBI, and 19 runs scored.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Bryce Harper (45)
  • Homers: Bryce Harper (19)
  • Batting Average: Anthony Rendon (.282)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Gio Gonzalez, he surrendered two runs in four innings and took a loss against the Orioles on Wednesday. He is now 6-4 on the season with a 3.08 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in 15 starts. He has 80 strikeouts and 34 walks in 84 2/3 innings.

Game 2: Max Scherzer, he struck out nine while allowing a pair of solo home runs over seven innings in a no-decision Thursday against the Orioles. The elite pitcher is now 10-3 on the season with an impressive  2.09 ERA and 0.85 WHIP.

Tampa Bay Rays's Latest Performance :

The Rays will be playing against the Nationals in a two-game set, they are 3rd in the NL East division with a record of 35-40 only 5 wins away from having a .500 record. Considering that the Rays are playing in a very tough division they might not win the series but they are still able to win a game or two against the elite teams such as the Yankees, Astros and the Mariners. Playing against the Nationals will be a very tough matchup for the Rays considering how well the Nationals are on the road this year. Coming into this interleague series the Rays are 12th in pitching with a 3.85 ERA and 26th in scoring with 289 runs scored this season.

Player to watch in this series: Wilson Ramos went 3-for-4 in Friday’s win over the Yankees. All three hits were singles. Ramos has been one of the most productive catchers in the game during the first half, batting .296/.344/.452 with nine homers and 36 RBI through 61 games. I expect him to play well at home against the Nationals in the short 2 game series. He has now hit in 6 of his last 7 games he has been the main option for the Rays offense as of late.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: C.J. Cron (37)
  • Homers: C.J. Cron (16)
  • Batting Average: Matt Duffy (.317)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Nathan Eovaldi, he let in four runs in six innings and was charged with a loss to the Astros on Wednesday. He is 1-3 with a 4.91 ERA in five starts this year. He’s given up eight home runs in just 29 1/3 innings

Game 2:  Matt Andriese, he will get his 3rd start of the season going up against the Nationals at home. He owns a 3.68 ERA and 1.14 WHIP, he will be closing out the rubber game in this two-game set.

How Washington Nationals & Tampa Bay Rays Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Rays are 4-12 in their last 16 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600.

Nationals are 5-2 in their last 7 after scoring 2 runs or less in their previous game.

Against The Spread Selection: Washington Nationals

My reason for the pick :

The Nationals should be able to take care of the Rays on the road as I predict a 2-0 series sweep. The Nationals will be glad to be back on the road and they will look like they have not missed a beat despite the hard-fought battle they had to go through earlier against the division rivals Phillies. Although the Rays have been playing really well as of late it is tough to stop the Nationals on the road and with Scherzer controlling the mound in game 2 that makes it even harder for the Rays win at home against a very strong road team like the Nationals.

The Nationals to sweep the Rays at home 2-0.

Betting trends for Washington Nationals:

  • Nationals are 4-1 in their last 5 games vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15.

Betting trends for Tampa Bay Rays:

  • Rays are 4-0 in their last 4 home games.
