Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Chicago White Sox vs Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers are home at Globe Life Park in Arlington against the visiting Chicago White Sox on Friday night to kick-off a three-game series.  The last time these two teams clashed back in May at Guaranteed Rate Field, the White Sox nearly swept the four-game series dropping just one game. Texas currently sits in last place of the AL West while the White Sox are resting comfortably in fourth place in the AL Central.

In game one of the series, the Rangers will start Yovani Gallardo (1-0, 12.08 ERA) against Dylan Covey (3-2, 3.45 ERA) on the mound. In game two, the ageless wonder Bartolo Colon (4-5, 4.72 ERA) gets the nod against White Sox pitcher Carlos Rodon (1-2, 3.70 ERA). In the series finale, Rangers pitcher Cole Hamels (4-6, 3.61 ERA) will face-off against  Reynaldo Lopez (3-5, 3.73 ERA).

Chicago White Sox's Latest Performance :

The White Sox are still just three games ahead of the former MLB Champion Kansas City Royals in the LA Central. While they have often resembled the Bad News Bears this season, they’ve won two in a row. A pop foul in their Tuesday night match-up with the Twins would definitely echo that sentiment after teammates collided causing an error. But, they rallied and won the game behind the pitching of Reynaldo Lopez who just two days prior was on the losing end of a 12-0 beat down by the Cleveland Indians. Maybe they can continue the decent play and extend their win streak against the Rangers.

Texas Rangers's Latest Performance :

The Texas Rangers are holding on tight to their last place position in the AL West. They are currently sitting 6.5 games back behind the fourth-place Los Angeles Angels and looking to improve their standing against the Sox. It certainly doesn’t help to lose to other last place teams they should beat like the San Diego Padres who they lost to on Tuesday night 3-2. One positive note came from that loss. Oldtimer Bartolo Colon earned his 244th win and surpassed Juan Marichal with the most wins by a Dominican-born pitcher. As for the rest of the team, no achievements other than their 36th loss on the season.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Let’s face it, neither team is great and neither team does anything exceptionally well. It will be interesting to see if Yovani Gallardo can decrease his extraordinarily high ERA and get another win under his belt or if Dylan Covey will show up and take command of game one of the series. Either way, this series has zero playoff implications and not much impact on anything beyond that. The White Sox need to win this series and continue to build on their win streak to avoid being that dreaded last place team in the league.
