Baltimore Orioles vs Philadelphia Phillies

The Phillies will welcome the Orioles to Citizen Bank Park as the two teams will go head to head in a 2 game interleague series starting on Tuesday. The Phillies are 2nd in the NL East division while the Orioles are in the last place of the AL East division. This will be their 2nd meeting of the season, the Phillies currently holds a 1-0 season series lead over the Orioles.

Game 1: 7:05 PM ET

Game 2: 4:05 PM ET

Baltimore Orioles's Latest Performance :

The Orioles are coming off a series loss against the Angels as they now take on the Phillies in a two-game set, it hasn’t been a great year for the O’s they are firmly in the last place of the AL East division with a record of 23-59 35 games under .500 and with the trade deadline looming the O’s will potential have to lose their best player Manny Machado. Playing against the Phillies on the road will be tough series for the O’s coming into this series the O’s are 29th in pitching with a 4.88 ERA and 29th in batting with 297 runs scored this season. The O’s have now lost 8 in a row.

Player to watch in this series: Manny Machado, he went 2-for-4 and drove in a run on Saturday in a loss to the Angels. He now has 57 RBI on the season and is the best player on the O’s.  He has a .308/.376/.556 slash line with 20 home runs as the clock ticks toward the trade deadline. He has to play well on the road against the Phillies because he knows everyone in the Majors will be watching how he performs and it might indicate where he will be playing in the future.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Manny Machado (57)
  • Homers: Manny Machado (20)
  • Batting Average: Manny Machado (.308)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Alex Cobb, he allowed eight hits and five runs over 4 2/3 innings Wednesday in a no-decision against Seattle. He owns a 6.75 ERA with two wins and a league-high nine losses. He’ll be back on the hill Tuesday night in Philly.

Game 2: David Hess, he allowed six runs in 5 2/3 innings and took a loss to the Angels on Friday.  He gave up nine base hits, two walks, and a hit batsman while registering just two strikeouts. He falls to 2-5 with a 5.94 ERA after nine starts.

Philadelphia Phillies's Latest Performance :

The Phillies will cap off their 9 game homestand as they will play the O’s in a 2 game set, the Phillies are now only 3 games behind the division leader Braves they are 44-37 on the season. Coming into this series the Phillies are 18th in batting with 354 runs scored this season and 17th in pitching with a 4.01 ERA. They have now won 12 of their last 19 games playing the O’s at home shouldn’t be a problem for them they are solid at home with a record of 27-16. The Phillies are on pace to win 88 games this season. The Phillies will be glad that June is over arguably their toughest month of the season, the Phillies play 20 of their next 23 games against teams with a losing record they should use this opportunity to make a push for the postseason.

Player to watch in this series: Odubel Herrera, he went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday’s win over the Nationals. He connected for a solo home run off Jeremy Hellickson with two outs in the third inning. The homer was his 14th of the season and snapped what had been an 0-for-19 skid entering action on Saturday. He is slashing .286/340/.481 with 46 RBIs through 79 games played. I expect him to have a great series against the O’s at home.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Ryhs Hoskins (50)
  • Homers: Herrera, Hoskins, and Santana all have 14.
  • Batting Average: Odubel Herrera (.286)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Zach Eflin, he just finished a fantastic June (5-0 with a 1.76 ERA in five starts). Four of those wins followed Phillies losses, including two after three-game losing streaks. One followed a four-game skid. He will hope to get back in the win column on Tuesday against the O’s.

Game 2: Aaron Nola, he held the Nationals to five hits and one run in 7 2/3 innings on Thursday. He is the first Phillies pitcher with 10 or more wins before July 1. He has an impressive 2.48 ERA, 1.01 WHIP as he will close things out for the Phillies against the O’s at home.

How Baltimore Orioles & Philadelphia Phillies Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Phillies are 16-6 in their last 22 home games vs. a left-handed starter.

Orioles are 18-37 in their last 55 after allowing 5 runs or more in their previous game.

Against The Spread Selection: Philadelphia Phillies

My reason for the pick :

The Phillies should be able to cruise past the O’s at home as I predict a 2 game sweep for the Phillies over O’s. In the month of July, you will see the Phillies playing in another gear as they will start to go on winning streaks to cut down the gap for the top spot of the division and potentially take the division lead. After a tough schedule in June the players will be well aware that they have to win every game from here on out because they will be playing the Pirates, Mets, Orioles once again and then the Padres.

The Phillies to sweep the O’s at home 2-0, Herrera will have a monster series.

Betting trends for Baltimore Orioles:

  • Orioles are 10-44 in their last 54 vs. a team with a winning record.

Betting trends for Philadelphia Phillies:

  • Phillies are 11-5 in their last 16 games vs. a right-handed starter.
