Game 1: 7:05 PM ET
Game 2: 6:05 PM ET
Game 3: 11:05 PM ET
Boston Red Sox's Latest Performance :
The Red Sox will continue their 9 game road trip as they will take on the Nationals in a three-game series, the Red Sox are coming off a tough series against their rivals Yankees. The Red Sox are virtually tied for first place in the AL East division with a record of 55-28 and 27-16 when playing on the road this season. Coming into this series the Red Sox are second in batting with 426 runs scored this season and 6th in pitching with a 3.48 ERA, they will look to bounce back against the Nationals on the road.
Player to watch in this series: Mookie Betts, he went 2-for-4 with a double and scored the Red Sox’ lone run in Friday’s loss to the Yankees. He doubled off of CC Sabathia with two outs in the fifth inning, the scored on a double by Andrew Benintendi. He also stole his 15th base of the season in the ballgame. He hasn’t missed a beat since returning from the disabled list and is now hitting .339/.426/.678 with 20 homers, 62 runs scored and 41 RBI. I expect him to play well against the Nationals on the road.
- RBIs: J.D. Martinez (64)
- Homers: J.D. Martinez (25)
- Batting Average: Mookie Betts (.339)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Rick Porcello, he was tagged for eight hits and four runs over 5 2/3 innings Wednesday in a no-decision against the Angels. He enters his Monday start with a 3.60 ERA and 1.13 WHIP. He is 9-3 on the season.
Game 2: Steven Wright, scheduled to start on Tuesday but he was hit with a left knee inflammation and has been placed on a 10 day DL list. He is 2-1 on the season and has a 3.38 ERA and 1.25 WHIP.
Game 3: Eduardo Rodriguez, he struggled in Friday’s loss to the Yankees, giving up five runs on seven hits over his six innings of work. He has a 4.11 ERA and 1.30 WHIP as he will square off against the Nationals in Washington on Wednesday.
Washington Nationals's Latest Performance :
The Nationals will be returning home for a 7 game homestand as they get ready to take on the Red Sox in a 3 game series. The Nationals are coming off an offensive outburst as they put up 17 runs against the Phillies, the outburst came at the right time, the Nationals had hit just 12 homers in June, last in the Majors, while scoring the fewest runs in the NL but in their last performance they combined to hit 7 homers that’s the way to end the month, the Nats will use the momentum they had on the road into their homestand. The Nationals are not doing too well at home they are only 19-20 but a performance like that will definitely motivate them to play well. Coming into this series the Nationals are 9th in pitching with a 3.64 ERA and 19th in scoring with 343 runs this season after being ranked 29th a week ago.
Player to watch in this series: Juan Soto, he is arguably the hottest player on the Nationals right now, he went 4-for-6, hit two home runs, drove in five runs and scored three times. He has a .336/.446/.621 slash line with eight home runs and 21 RBI in 35 games. He will look forward to the challenge when he faces off against the Red Sox pitchers, if he is able to keep up these numbers we might have another superstar in our hands. He became the first teenager in MLB history with four hits and two home runs, I don’t see him slowing down anytime soon.
- RBIs: Bryce Harper (49)
- Homers: Bryce Harper (20)
- Batting Average: Anthony Rendon (.289)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Max Scherzer, he will take the mound for the Nationals on Monday as he will take on the Red Sox in the series opener. He owns a brilliant 2.04 ERA and 165/27 K/BB ratio in 114 2/3 innings through 17 starts.
Game 2: Tanner Roark, he pitched well in a losing effort against the Phillies on Thursday night, allowing two runs on seven hits over his six frames. He will carry a 4.10 ERA and 1.27 WHIP into Tuesday’s start against the Red Sox.
Game 3: Erick Fedde, he allowed five runs in five innings on Friday. He was able to pick up his first win the Major despite pitching very poorly. It is not yet confirmed whether Strasberg will come back on time for the rubber game but for the time being, Fedde will take the mound against the Red Sox in the rubber game.
How Boston Red Sox & Washington Nationals Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Nationals are 1-5 in their last 6 overall.
Red Sox are 37-17 in their last 54 games following a win.
Against The Spread Selection: Boston Red Sox
My reason for the pick :
This will be a very tight series between the Nationals and the Red Sox as I predict a 2-1 series win for the Red Sox on the road. Game 1 will be going to Nationals as Soto will continue his hot streak but the Red Sox should be able to bounce back from the series opener lost and take the remaining two games on the road, the Nationals will continue to struggle at home. The Red Sox batters will look to take advantage of the Nationals pitchers since the Red Sox are coming off a hard-fought series against the Yankees I expect the Red Sox to bring the same level of intensity and quality of play into the series against the Nationals.
Red Sox to beat the Nationals on the road 2-1.
