Detroit Tigers vs Chicago Cubs
The Cubs will welcome the Tigers to Wrigley for a 2 game interleague series starting Tuesday. The Cubs are 2nd in the NL Central division while the Tigers are 3rd in the AL Central division. This will be their first meeting of the season.
Both Games will be played at 2:20 PM ET.
Detroit Tigers's Latest Performance :
The Tigers have now lost 11 straight games and things don’t get any easier for them as they will have to play against the Cubs who has been on fire offensively in a 2 game interleague series. The Tigers now have a record of 36-48 and are now 9 1/2 behind the leader Indians in the AL Central division. Coming into this series the Tigers are 22nd in pitching with a 4.44 ERA and 22nd in scoring with 334 runs scored this season. The Tigers are 13-27 when playing on the road this season. They will have to figure things out real soon or else they will keep stumbling down the standings. The Tigers were unfortunate when they lost in walk-off after leading the Blue Jays 3-0 early in the game.
Player to watch in this series: Nicholas Castellanos, he will do all he can to make the Tigers win a game, in his last performance he struck a 2 run homer but his efforts weren’t enough as the Tigers dropped their 11th straight. Despite the losing streak, he is having a great year for the Tigers he is slashing .309/.356/.517 with 12 homers and 49 RBI. In baseball, a player can be playing really well but if his fellow teammates don’t come through when needed it is hard for the team to win games, to win games you need a contribution from everyone starting from the batter all the way down to the bullpen.
- RBIs: Nicholas Castellanos (49)
- Homers: Jeimer Candelario and Nicholas Castellanos have 12.
- Batting Average: Nicholas Castellanos (.309)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Michael Fulmer, he took the loss last Thursday against the A’s, but tied a season high with eight innings, the last four scoreless with one hit allowed. He has three walks over his last four starts. He has a 4.20 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP on the season.
Game 2: Franciso Liriano, he remains winless since his strong April, including losses in each of his last three outings, but tossed a quality start Friday against the Blue Jays with no hard-hit contact aside from Justin Smoak’s two-run homer. He is 3-4 on the season with a 3.99 ERA.
Chicago Cubs's Latest Performance :
The Cubs are currently on a 3 game winning streak the Cubs offense has been on fire lately they were able to put up 35 runs in the last 3 games. The Cubs are 2nd in the NL Central division they only trail the Brewers 1 1/2 game for the top spot in the division. The Cubs will be ready as the Tigers will visit Wrigley Field for 2 games. The Cubs are 23-14 when playing at home this season, coming into this series the Cubs are 3rd best in batting with 409 runs scored this season and 5th in pitching with a 3.53 ERA. If the Cubs are able to keep up this batting numbers they will be leading the NL Central division in no time. The Cubs finished June with 16 wins they are hoping to start the July on the right foot.
Player to watch in this series: Albert Almora, he went 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. He is starting to heat up for the Cubs at the right time, he should be a factor in the series against the Tigers. He has a .332 batting average with four homers, 26 RBI and 44 runs scored in 76 games. He is playing best baseball with the Cubs this season and it is only a matter time that the Cubs will be in full strength. Bryant is expected to return to the team after suffering from a shoulder injury.
- RBIs: Javier Baez (50)
- Homers: Baez and Schwarber both have 16.
- Batting Average: Albert Almora JR. (.332)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Kyle Hendricks, he allowed six earned runs, eight hits and two walks with just one strikeout over 2 2/3 innings in a loss on the road against the Dodgers on Wednesday. He is now 5-8 on the season with a 4.21 ERA throwing just 40 of his 72 pitches for strikes. He takes the mound on Tuesday in the series opener against the Tigers.
Game 2: Jose Quintana, he surrendered three runs in 5 1/3 innings Thursday in a no-decision against the Dodgers. He is 6-6 on the season and working with a 4.31 ERA and 1.41 WHIP.
How Detroit Tigers & Chicago Cubs Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Cubs are 11-3 in their last 14 interleague home games vs. a team with a losing record.
Tigers are 19-40 in their last 59 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
Against The Spread Selection: Chicago Cubs
My reason for the pick :
The Cubs will annihilate the Tigers at home as I predict a 2 game sweep for the Cubs. The Cubs offense will come through for them at home as the Tigers will have no answer for them at all. The Tigers will keep losing and extend their losing streak. One team is playing their best baseball ever while the other team can’t figure out how to win games. We are already 81 games into the season and we starting to see which team has the potential to have a deep run into the postseason and with the way the Cubs are batting right now you might want to keep an eye on them because they are able to heat up in heartbeat.
For the Tigers, they will have to wait a little longer for their losing streak to end, they will return home after this series where they are 23-21 on the season.
The Cubs to sweep the Tigers in the interleague matchup 2-0.
