Houston Astros's Latest Performance :
The Astros will cap off their 6 game road trip as they will go and play the Rangers in a two-game set. The Astros are in the first place in the division with a record of 55-30 they are 1 1/2 games ahead of 2nd place Mariners. Coming into this series the Astros are the best team in pitching with a 2.83 ERA and 2nd best in batting with 431 runs scored this season. They will look to bounce back against the Rangers after losing back to back games for the first time since June. The Astros have a hit a home run in a club-record 21 road games in a row.
Player to watch in this series: Alex Bregman, he remains to play well despite everyone on the team struggling, he went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run. He’s been ripping the ball of late, has now homered in back-to-back contests. He should play really well against the Rangers on the road. He is slashing .277/.377/.519 with 16 home runs, 53 RBI and seven steals across 318 at-bats. I expect his numbers to go way up in the month of July.
- RBIs: Evan Gattis (54)
- Homers: Alex Bregman (16)
- Batting Average: Jose Altuve (.342)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Dallas Keuchel, he allowed six earned runs in his most recent start, Wednesday against the Blue Jays. He’s won only once in his last eight starts, going 1-3 with a 5.68 ERA with a .806 opponent OPS.
Game 2: Lance McCullers, he threw seven scoreless innings at the Rays on Thursday, the sixth consecutive game the Astros won in which he started. He’s thrown at least six innings in six starts in a row (3-0, 2.84 ERA).
Texas Rangers's Latest Performance :
The Rangers are coming off a series sweep victory against the White Sox but now they will face a tough challenge as they will be playing against the division leader the Astros in a two-game set. The Rangers are making a late push they are now only 8 games from having a .500 record last month it seems like the season was over for them but they have proved a lot of people wrong and continued to win game after game. Coming into this series the Rangers are 9th best in batting with 383 runs scored this season and 24th in pitching with a 4.63 ERA.
Player to watch in this series: Robinson Chirinos went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and three RBI. He has been playing really well for the Rangers lately, hitting safely in a season-high six consecutive games. He is 9-for-21 (.429) with three doubles, three homers, 12 RBI and six runs scored during the impressive run, pushing his average from .188 to .213 just since June 19. He will face a tough challenge ahead when he plays the World Series Champion as they will do all they can to shut him down.
- RBIs: Nomar Mazara (55)
- Homers: Joey Gallo (20)
- Batting Average: Shin-Soo-Choo (.286)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Austin Bibens-Dirkx, he struck out six and walked just two before being lifted to begin the sixth. He’s pitched well in both of his starts for Texas he will get another shot against the Astros at home. He is 1-1 since being recalled and owns a 3.57 ERA.
Game 2: Mike Minor, he allowed just one base hit and no runs through seven innings and was credited with a win over the Padres on Wednesday. He improves to 6-4 with a 4.64 ERA in 16 starts.
How Houston Astros & Texas Rangers Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Rangers are 10-2 in their last 12 overall.
Astros are 15-3 in their last 18 road games vs. a team with a losing record.
Against The Spread Selection: Houston Astros
My reason for the pick :
The Astros should be able to pick up a series win over the Rangers on the road, it won’t be as easy because the Rangers have been playing really well lately, however, the Astros will beat them with experience because the Astros can’t afford to lose out any games either because the Mariners are right behind them in the standings. The Astros should cruise through the series opener but in game 2 that is when things will start to get interesting because you will be having two on form pitchers going head to head McCullers vs. Minor but I have to go with McCullers that’s why I chose the Astros to sweep. He is coming off 6 consecutive scoreless innings so its hard not to go with him.
Astros to sweep the Rangers on the road.
