Game 3: 8:10 PM ET
Pittsburgh Pirates's Latest Performance :
The Pirates will be finishing off their 9 game road trip against the D0dgers in a three-game series. They are coming off an impressive series victory over the Padres. The Pirates are 18-21 on the road this season and they are currently in 4th place of the NL Central division. The Pirates are doing all they can to turn this season around they are now 9 games back of the division leader Brewers. The Pirates have averaged five runs per night while winning three of their last four games. Coming into this series the Pirates are 20th in pitching with a 4.20 ERA and 16th in batting with 353 runs scored this season.
Player to watch in this series: Gregory Polanco, he was able to finish 2 for 4 from the game and picked up 2 RBIs in his last performance. He will have to play well for the Pirates for them to have any chance to beat the Dodgers considering how well they were playing in the month of June. With the 2 RBIs his line improved to .230/.337/.453 with 40 RBIs and leads the team with 11 homers on the year.
- RBIs: Josh Bell (41)
- Homers: Gregory Polanco (11)
- Batting Average: Corey Dickerson (.297)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Nick Kingham, he will be in charge of the mound on Monday for the Pirates. He is 2-3 on the season and has an ERA of 3.82.
Game 2: Ivan Nova, he allowed five hits and three runs over six innings of work Wednesday in a no-decision against the Mets. He registered two strikeouts and didn’t walk anyone over 86 pitches. He faces off Kershaw in the second game.
Game 3: Joe Musgrove, he tossed seven scoreless innings Friday in the Pirates’ 6-3 win over the Padres. He has a 3.79 ERA and a 36/11 K/BB ratio in 40 1/3 innings. He will look to close out the series against the Dodgers on the right foot.
Los Angeles Dodgers's Latest Performance :
The Dodgers will cap off their 10 game homestand as they will play the Pirates in a three-game set, they are 2nd in the NL West and have a .500 record at home this season. The Dodgers will be looking to start July with a bang the Dodgers recorded 54 home runs in June. The Dodgers are only 3 1/2 games back of the division leader D-Backs. Coming into this series the Dodgers are 9th in batting with 378 runs scored this season and 8th in pitching with a 3.64 ERA. They are hoping to end this homestand on a good note, they are currently 2-2 during the homestand.
Player to watch in this series: Justin Turner, he went 2 for 4 in his last outing as he struck a solo home run in the 9th inning, setting the Dodgers’ record with 54 homers in a single month. I expect him to be a factor against the Pirates perhaps that homer would allow him to return to his own form. He is slashing .264/.359/.432 with 15 RBIs and 5 homers on the season.
- RBIs: Matt Kemp (47)
- Homers: Max Muncy (17)
- Batting Average: Matt Kemp (.306)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Alex Wood, he allowed three earned runs, seven hits and no walks with six strikeouts over seven innings. He will hope to build on an impressive pitching performance as he takes the mound on Monday against the Pirates.
Game 2: Clayton Kershaw, he allowed one run over five innings and struck out six Thursday in his start against the Cubs. He is still working his way back into the rotation after coming off the DL list, he takes the mound in game 2.
Game 3: Rich Hill, he allowed one run in 6 2/3 innings and struck out 10 against the Rockies on Friday, he will finish things off for the Dodgers in the rubber game against the Pirates.
How Pittsburgh Pirates & Los Angeles Dodgers Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Dodgers are 8-1 in their last 9 vs. a team with a losing record.
Pirates are 17-35 in their last 52 vs. National League West.
Against The Spread Selection: Los Angeles Dodgers
My reason for the pick :
Considering how hot the Dodgers were in June they should do just fine against the Pirates at home as I predict a series sweep for the Dodgers at home. The Dodgers will be getting Kershaw back on the mound he should be able to pick things up where he left off. It is midway through the regular season this where you will start to see the difference between good teams and great teams as the Dodgers will prepare themselves for the postseason.
Dodgers to sweep the Pirates at home.
