Tampa Bay Rays's Latest Performance :

The Tampa Bay Rays have won 4 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 2-3.  Recently, the Rays would go on to sweep the New York Yankees at home on 6-24-2018 while also sweeping a 2-game home set versus the Nationals on 6-26-2018.  They would also tie a 4-game home set versus the Houston Astros by winning game 2 by a 3-2 score on 6-29-2018.

The Rays are averaging 3.89 runs per game (25th) with a team batting average of .249 (11th), 73 homers (26th), along with 50 stolen bases on the year (6th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 3.67 (9th) with 671 strikeouts (21st) and 22 quality starts (30th).

Miami Marlins's Latest Performance :

The Marlins come into this matchup losers of 3 of their last 5 games to there the O/U was 2-2-1.  After winning a 3-game road set versus the Colorado Rockies on 6-24-2018, the Marlins would go on to lose a 4-game home set against the Arizona Diamondbacks on 6-28-2018.  They would, however, win game 1 of a 3-game home set versus the lowly Mets on 6-28-2018 by an 8-2 score.

For the season, the Marlins average 3.66 runs per game (28th) with a team batting average of .240 (21st), 65 homers (30th) along with 18 stolen bases (29th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 4.77 (27th) with 655 strikeouts (22nd) along with 26 quality starts (27th).

How Tampa Bay Rays & Miami Marlins Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

For the season, the Astros are 43-40 ATS while the O/U is 43-39-1.  On the other hand, the Rays are 49-32 ATS while the O/U is 34-44-3.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

No pitchers for either team have been assigned for this matchup as of yet, however, it would be important to note that both these teams have certainly seemed to pick things up lately.  The Marlins are winners of 4 of their last 7 games while the Rays are playing better and better while winning 6 of their last 7 outings.  During this time, the Rays are surrendering an average of 1.5 runs per game.  On the other hand, the Marlins have been averaging 5 runs per game in their last 7 matchups.  In other words, something will certainly have to give in this series.  Will a hot pitching staff tame a hot lineup at the plate?  Vice versa?  This game will be interesting in that you have a team looking to continue their recent success while one is looking to play better, more consistent baseball in which to somehow rise out of the basement of their division.

Totals Selection: Game 1, Game 2, Game 3: Under

My reason for the prediction :

It would be important to reinforce the fact that though the Rays are winning, they are doing so on the strength of their young pitching staff.  As stated, they are holding opponents to less than 2 runs per game and will certainly look to oppose this Marlins lineup that has also struggled with consistency at the plate all year.  I expect this entire series to be one in which not many runs will cross home plate largely due to the emergence of quality pitching from both staffs.  In all, this will be a competitive, low-scoring series where pitching and defense will certainly be the key to winning.
