Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Chicago White Sox vs Houston Astros

The Astros will welcome the White Sox to Minute Maid Park as the two teams will go head to head in a four-game series starting on Thursday. The Astros are on top of the AL West division while the White Sox are 4th in the AL Central. This will be their second meeting of the season, the Astros were able to score 27 runs on the White Sox on the road in their last meeting.

Game 1&2: 8:10 PM ET

Game 3: 4:10 PM ET

Game 4: 2:10 PM ET

Chicago White Sox's Latest Performance :

The White Sox will cap off their 10 game road trip by playing against the Astros in a four-game series the White Sox are not a great road team this season they are only 13-28 when playing on the road. It will be a challenge for them playing against the Astros who is just coming back from a road trip of their own so they will be firing on cylinders to get back into the win column. For the White Sox, this season has been a forgettable season they are already 17 1/2 back of the top spot and I don’t really see them making an impact this season. Coming into this series the White Sox are 27th in pitching with a 4.77 ERA and 24th in batting with 329 runs scored this season.

Player to watch in this series: Matt Davidson, he is arguably the best player on the White Sox he recently had a back-to-back three-hit games in the two games he played, raising his average from .219 to .237 with six hits, three runs scored, two doubles, a homer and four RBI in just nine at-bats. He has to bring his impressive batting performance with him to Houston. If he is able to keep his batting numbers up it should be a very interesting series. On the season he is slashing .235/.345/.478 with 14 homers and 36 RBIs.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Jose Abreu (50)
  • Homers: Matt Davidson (14)
  • Batting Average: Jose Abreu (.269)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Carlos Rodon, he allowed five earned runs, six hits, and two walks over 5 1/3 innings with three strikeouts in a loss Saturday in Texas. He’ll look to get back into the win column on Thursday.

Game 2: Reynaldo Lopez, he allowed two earned runs, seven hits and three walks with six strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings in Sunday’s victory in Texas. He has picked up wins in back-to-back starts for the first time this season, he will try to make it 3 in a row when he takes on Verlander and the Astros on Friday.

Game 3: James Shield, he allowed one run over 6 2/3 innings Monday in a no-decision versus the Reds. He holds a decent 4.12 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 113 2/3 innings this season but has a record of 3-9. He will face a tough challenge on the road when he plays against the Astros.

Game 4: Lucas Giolito,  he is coming off his best start of June as he allowed just one run in 6 1/3 innings in receiving a no-decision against Minnesota. That outing snapped a string of three consecutive starts in which he allowed at least four earned runs. He will close things off for the White Sox against the Astros.

Houston Astros's Latest Performance :

The Astros will be back at Minute Maid Park for an 11 game homestand beginning Thursday. The homestand opens with a four-game series against the White Sox. The Astros are currently on a 3 game losing streak it is a great opportunity for the team to regroup at home. The Astros are 25-17 when playing at home this season and playing against a bad team like the White Sox will definitely bring back their confidence. Coming into this series the Astros are 2nd best in batting with 433 runs scored this season and the best in pitching with a 2.84 ERA.

Player to watch in this series: Evan Gattis, he struck a pair of homers on Sunday in a loss to the Rays. He now has 17 dingers on the season. Gattis was the only batter who was able to remain focus after a tough road trip, he is hoping that his team can follow his lead when they return home and play the White Sox. He is slashing .252/.309/.512 with a whopping 56 RBIs. It is normal for a team as good as the Astros to go on a losing streak it is part of the game, it’s how you bounce back from the set back that what matters. Gattis should play well at home against the White Sox. He leads the Astros in homers and RBIs.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Evan Gattis (56)
  • Homers: Evan Gattis (17)
  • Batting Average: Jose Altuve (.338)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Gerrit Cole, he gave up three runs (one earned) in six innings and was charged with a loss to the Rays on Friday. He is  9-2 on the season with a 2.50 ERA and 0.92 WHIP through 17 starts. He will climb the hill to take on the White Sox on Thursday.

Game 2: Justin Verlander, he gave up five runs on nine hits over five innings in Saturday’s 5-2 loss to the Rays. He will try for better results when he brings his 2.12 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 144/24 K/BB ratio (118 2/3 innings) into a home showdown with the White Sox.

Game 3: Charlie Morton, he struck out 11 hitters and allowed just two runs in 6 2/3 innings, but took a loss against the Rays on Sunday.  He has 133 strikeouts in just 102 innings, and his ERA stays at a solid 2.55. He is 10-2 on the season.

Game 4: Dallas Keuchel, he will be on the mound against the White Sox in the rubber game, he allowed 7 hits and 6 runs in his last outing, he is 4-8 on the season he is hoping that he can pick up his 5th win against the White Sox. He owns a 4.22 ERA.

How Chicago White Sox & Houston Astros Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Astros are 37-14 in their last 51 games vs. a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30.

White Sox are 17-45 in their last 62 when their opponent scores 5 runs or more in their previous game.

Against The Spread Selection: Houston Astros

My reason for the pick :

The Astros will be happy to return to Minute Maid as I predict the Astros should be able to sweep the White Sox in 4 games. The Astros will return into form as they will extend their lead away from the Mariners in the AL West division. It is hard not to roll with the World Series Champs when they are playing at home, they are practically unbeatable and when a bad road team like the White Sox come to visit I am certain that the Astros will take full advantage. Gattis will lead the way for the Astros as for the White Sox Davidson will have a great series but unfortunately, the White Sox won’t be able to contain the potent offense of the Astros.

Betting trends for Chicago White Sox:

  • White Sox are 15-40 in their last 55 road games vs. a right-handed starter.

Betting trends for Houston Astros:

  • Astros are 38-18 in their last 56 vs. a team with a losing record.
