San Diego Padres vs Arizona Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks will welcome the Padres to Chase Field as both teams from the NL West will go head to head in a 4 game series starting Thursday. The D-Backs are on top of the division while the Padres are in the last place. This will be their 2nd meeting of the season, the D-Backs have a 1-0 season series lead over the Padres.

Game 1&2: 9:40 PM ET

Game 3: 10:10 PM ET

Game 4: 4:10 PM ET

San Diego Padres 's Latest Performance :

The Padres will continue their 5 game road trip as they will take on the D-Backs in a 4 game set, the Padres are in the last place of the NL West with a record of 37-49 they are 10 1/2 back of the division leader D-Backs, the season isn’t over for them just yet they have shown signs of making a come back into the season however they might be a little too late. The Padres are 18-24 when playing on the road this season and the Padres know that the D-Backs will be coming to this series with a mindset to win the series because they are on a losing streak. The Padres must be well prepared when they head to Arizona. The Padres are 17th in pitching with a 4.12 ERA and 26th in scoring with 321 runs scored this season. Their inability to generate runs have cost them a lot of games this season.

Player to watch in this series: Hunter Renfroe, he finished 2-for-5 with a double, a solo home run and two RBI, the Padres will need his offense against the division leader on the road. He has picked up the pace over the past few games, going 6-for-12 (.500) with a double, a solo home run and just one strikeout. On the season he is slashing .257/.329/.472 with 22 RBIs and 5 homers.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Christian Villanueva (39)
  • Homers: Christian Villanueva (16)
  • Batting Average: Eric Hosmer (.273)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Joey Lucchesi, he allowed just one hit with four walks and five strikeouts over five scoreless innings in a win against the Pirates on Saturday. It was his first victory in six starts dating back to April 28. He’ll look for a victory in a second straight outing on Thursday.

Game 2: Tyson Ross, he was tagged for seven earned runs, seven hits and three walks with no strikeouts over five innings in a loss against the Pirates. He has allowed 8 homers in his last 6 starts. He is 5-6 on the season with a 3.78 ERA.

Game 3: Jordan Lyles, he should be back on the mound for the Padres Saturday after an elbow inflammation. In his last outing against the Braves he only 1 run while giving up 5 hits and striking out 6 in 7 innings. He has a 4.45 ERA and 1.27 WHIP.

Game 4: Clayton Richard, He has now worked at least six innings in 10 straight starts, but he took the loss in Texas, the first time the Padres dropped a game started by Richard since May 25. He will close things out for the Padres in the rubber game against the D-Backs.

Arizona Diamondbacks's Latest Performance :

The D-Backs are currently on a 4 game losing streak they will cap off their 10 game homestand by playing against the Padres in a 4 game set. The D-Backs will have the opportunity to get back into the win column although they are still leading the NL West division the Dodgers are now 1 1/2 games behind them for the top spot in the division. Coming into this series the D-Backs are 15th in batting with 370 runs scored this season and 3rd best in pitching with a 3.52 ERA. The D-Backs should be able to pull out some wins with Pollock back in the rotation.

Player to watch in this series: Paul Goldschmidt, he went 4-for-4 with an RBI in a loss to the Cardinals. He singled home Nick Ahmed to bring the Diamondbacks to within two runs at 4-2 in the fifth. He was arguably the best player in the National League in June, and July is off to a pretty good start now, too. Goldschmidt ups his season line to .274/.384/.529 with 18 homers and 45 RBI in 83 games. I expect him to be on fire against the Padres at home and once Pollock regains his confidence on the plate the D-Backs will be very difficult to stop.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Goldschmidt and Peralta both have 45.
  • Homers: Paul Goldschmidt (18)
  • Batting Average: David Peralta (.283)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Shelby Miller, he allowed six earned runs, nine hits, and a walk with six strikeouts over five innings in a loss against the Giants on Saturday. He is 0-2 with an 11.42 ERA across his first two starts back from reconstructive elbow surgery. He will take the mound on Thursday.

Game 2: Zack Godley, He was tagged for seven earned runs, nine hits and five walks with five strikeouts over just four innings in a loss against the Giants. With that loss it snapped his 4 game win streak, he had allowed just eight earned runs over his past 23 1/3 innings during the win streak.

Game 3: Robbie Ray, he allowed six runs over five-plus innings on Monday in a loss to the Cardinals. He now has a 4.89 ERA on the year over 38 1/3 innings. He will look to bounce back when he faces the Padres on Saturday.

Game 4: Zach Greinke, he will take the mound for the D-Backs in the rubber game, Zach is the ultimate athlete he is 7-for-7 on attempted steals over the course of his career. Greinke has pitched 13 scoreless innings his last two times out, lowering his ERA from 3.90 to 3.41.

How San Diego Padres & Arizona Diamondbacks Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Diamondbacks are 1-4 in their last 5 home games vs. a right-handed starter.

Padres are 3-11 in their last 14 overall.

Against The Spread Selection: Arizona Diamondbacks

My reason for the pick :

The Diamondbacks can’t afford to drop any more games, the D-Backs will be able to find their form at home against the Padres as they are well aware that the Dodgers are right behind them. I predict a 3-1 series win for the D-Backs over the Padres. The D-Backs will come out firing as they will set the tone early. The D-Backs will win the first 3 games and the Padres should be able to win the rubber game because Clayton Richard is on the mound in game 4. The Padres batters won’t be able to score that much because of the elite pitchers on the D-Backs team. I won’t be surprised at all if there is one game in the 4 game series that Goldschmidt and Pollock catch fire and blowout the Padres.

The D-Backs to beat out the Padres 3-1 at home as they extend their lead on top of the NL West division.

Betting trends for San Diego Padres :

  • Padres are 1-4 in their last 5 vs. a team with a winning record.

Betting trends for Arizona Diamondbacks:

  • Diamondbacks are 0-6 in their last 6 home games.
