Texas Rangers's Latest Performance :

The Texas Rangers have won 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 3-2.  Recently, the Rangers would win their last 2 series against the Padres and the White Sox, both at home and certainly look to continue their recent stretch of play in which they would be winners of 11 of their last 14 games.

For the season, the Rangers are averaging 4.56 runs per game (11th) with a team batting average of .238 (23rd), 98 homers (14th) along with 46 stolen bases (11th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 4.70 (26th) with 620 strikeouts (28th) along with 31 quality starts on the season (25th).

Nomar Mazara (.282 BA on 312 AB) has been the most effective offensive star thus far for the Rangers.  On the other hand, Shin-Soo Choo (.283 BA on 315 AB) and Joey Gallo (.194 BA on 283 AB) have also been solid all-season long.

Cole Hamels (4-7) has pitched 102.1 innings this season while allowing 52 runs on 96 hits, 20 homers, 37 walks, and 104 strikeouts with an ERA of 4.05.  Bartolo Colon (5-5) has also pitched 92.2 innings while allowing 50 runs on 84 hits, 20 homers, 15 walks, and 56 strikeouts with an ERA of 4.76.  Mike Minor (6-4) has also pitched 85.1 innings while allowing 45 runs on 81 hits, 12 homers, 19 walks, and 70 strikeouts with an ERA of 4.64.

Detroit Tigers's Latest Performance :

The Detroit Tigers have lost 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 1-4.  The Tigers would be swept in a 4-game home set versus the Oakland A’s on 6-28-2018.  They would follow this up by tying a 4-game set on the road versus the Toronto Blue Jays on 7-2-2018.

Currently, the Tigers are averaging 4.02 runs per game (23rd) with a team batting average of .247 (13th), 69 homers (28th), along with 42 stolen bases (13th).  Their pitching staff possesses an ERA of 4.36 (21st) with 639 strikeouts (26th), along with 32 quality starts on the year (26th).

Miguel Cabrera (.299 BA on 134 AB), Nicholas Castellanos (.310 BA on 336 AB), and Leonys Martin (.257 BA on 276 AB) spearhead the Tiger offensive attack.  Jeimer Candelario (.242 BA on 273 AB) along with Victor Martinez (.238 BA on 269 AB) have also been solid as well this season.

Mike Fiers (5-5) has pitched the most innings at 92.2 while allowing 42 runs on 93 hits, 16 homers, 20 walks, and 68 strikeouts this year.  Matthew Boyd (4-6) has pitched 88.1 innings this year while allowing 41 runs on 72 hits, 9 homers, 35 walks, and 76 strikeouts with an ERA of 4.18 while Michael Fulmer (3-7) has pitched 94.1 innings while allowing 47 runs on 88 hits, 11 homers, 30 walks, and 80 strikeouts with an ERA of 4.20.

How Texas Rangers & Detroit Tigers Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

For the season, the Rangers are 43-42 ATS while the O/U is 40-39-6.  On the other hand, the Tigers are 45-41 ATS while the O/U is 35-49-2.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

While game 1 will seemingly offer the struggling Tigers their best chance in which to pick up a win in this series with Matthew Boyd (4-6) coming to the mound, however, judging by the way in which Boyd has pitched lately, one has to be worried, yet again, that Detroit may indeed suffer another loss in which to add to their current losing skid.  Boyd is coming off an outing to where he lasted 6 innings while allowing 3 runs on 4 hits, 1 homer, and 7 strikeouts in a 4-3 road loss at the Blue Jays on 6-30-2018.  In his last outing versus the Rangers, Boyd was awful in pitching 5.1 innings while allowing 4 runs on 12 hits, 2 homers, and only 3 strikeouts in a 5-2 home loss on 5-21-2017.  The righty has been credited with 14 earned runs in his last 3 starts while giving up a homer in each.  The under has been the play in 3 of his last 5 appearances while the team is 1-3 in his last 4 starts.

Elvis Andrus and Adrian Beltre are each 4-10 against Boyd in the past while Robinson Chirinos is .429 on 7 at bats.  Jose Gallo and Nomar Mazara are each 1-3 against the right-hander.  Delino DeShields (.222 BA on 9 AB) and Shin-Soo Choo (.111 BA on 9 AB) have struggled against Boyd in their careers while Jurickson Profar is hitless against him lifetime (0-2).

The pitchers for the remainder of the series have not been announced, however, I happen to not only feel as though the Rangers will indeed perform well in this series as they are 5-1 in their last 6 road matchups, but, I also feel as though the over will be the play in this series due to the fact that the Rangers have been feasting on opposing pitchers lately.  With that being said, the way in which the Tigers have played lately certainly could make one scratch his/her head, however, aside from game 1, I would not be very surprised at all if the Rangers were to win this series in high-scoring fashion.  In all, this will be yet another interesting series pitting a struggling, yet, high-ranking division team that has struggled both at home and on the road against a surging, low-level division team looking for even more momentum on the road where they have thrived lately.

Against The Spread Selection: Game 1: Detroit Tigers

My reason for the pick :

As stated, Boyd has been inconsistent lately, and he certainly has had his issues with the Ranger lineup in his career, however, I expect Detroit to come out focused in game 1 to win what I see as a high-scoring matchup where runs will indeed be scored.  The Tigers, despite their recent troubles, have won 2-straight games albeit against the lowly Toronto Blue Jays; Nonetheless, this momentum will certainly carry on into this series and will allow Detroit the edge it needs in which to obtain a win in the opener on Thursday night.

Totals Selection: Game 2, 3, 4: Over

My reason for the prediction :

The Over has been the play in 2 of the last 3 games between these two squads.  Combine this with the fact that the Rangers, who clearly will have most of the momentum going into this series, have eclipsed the over in 4 of their last 6 games.  With a shaky pitching staff for both teams, I will certainly back the over to be the play for much of the series.  Keep in mind that the Rangers have scored an average of 9.1 runs in their last 3 wins while the Tigers have scored 12 runs in their last 2 as well.
