Boston Red Sox's Latest Performance :

The Boston Red Sox come into this game winners of 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 3-2.  Recently, the Red Sox would sweep a 3-game home set versus the Los Angeles Angels on 6-28-2018 while dropping a 3-game road set against division rival NY Yankees on 7-1-2018.  They would, however, refocus in their next series, a 3-game road set versus the Nationals as they would win both games 1 and 2.

For the season, the Red Sox are averaging 5.22 runs per game (1st) with a team batting average of .266 (2nd), 124 homers (2nd), along with 65 stolen bases (2nd).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 3.59 (7th) with 829 strikeouts (3rd) along with 45 quality starts on the year (3rd).

Mookie Betts (.336 BA on 256 AB), J.D. Martinez (.325 BA on 314 AB), Hanley Ramirez (.254 BA on 177 AB), Rafael Devers (.242 BA on 322 AB) and Andrew Benintendi (.279 BA on 323 AB) have all been consistent at the plate this year for the Red Sox and are their primary offensive leaders.  Eduardo Nunez (.254 BA on 272 AB) is also a key offensive component for Boston.

Chris Sale (8-4, 116 IP, 33 R, 74 H, 10 HR, 29 BB, 164 SO, 2.41 ERA), Rick Porcello (10-3, 110 IP, 49 R, 102 H, 12 HR, 26 BB, 104 SO, 3.57 ERA) and David Price (9-6, 96.2 IP, 49 R, 89 H, 15 HR, 33 BB, 92 SO, 3.48) have held it down for the Red Sox pitching staff all season.

Kansas City Royals's Latest Performance :

The Royals come into this matchup losers of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 3-2.  Recently, Kansas City would tie a 2-game road set versus the Brewers on 6-27-2018 while going on to be swept in their following series, a 3-game road set versus the Seattle Mariners on 7-1-2018.  The Royals would follow this up with a lackluster effort in the first 2 of a 3-game home set versus the Cleveland Indians and dropped games 1 and 2 by a combined score of 15-7.

For the season, the Royals are averaging 3.47 runs per game (30th) with a team batting average of .237 (23rd), 68 homers (29th), along with 40 stolen bases (15th).  Their pitching staff ranks at the bottom with an ERA of 5.20 (30th) with 599 strikeouts (30th) with 33 quality starts on the year (21st).

How Boston Red Sox & Kansas City Royals Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Boston’s game 1 pitcher has not been announced, however, Jason Hammel (2-10) will come to the mound for the Royals hoping to end a 5-game losing streak on the mound.  In his last outing, he pitched 6 innings while giving up 6 runs on 13 hits and 1 homer in a 6-4 road loss to the Mariners on 6-30-2018.  In his last meeting versus the Red Sox, he went 8 innings while giving up 8 runs on 8 hits and 2 homers in a 10-6 loss on 4-30-2018.  Hammel has been credited with 16 home runs in his last 3 starts while the over has been the result in his last 2.  Overall, the Royals are 0-5 in his last 5 starts.

Andrew Benintendi (.143 BA on 7 AB), Mookie Betts (0-7), Steve Pearce (0-1), and Christian Vazquez (.167 BA on 6 AB) have all struggled against Hammel in the past; However, Xander Bogaerts (.429 BA on 7 AB), Jackie Bradley Jr. (.333 BA on 6 AB) and Rafael Devers (1-3) along with J.D. Martinez (2-4) and Mitch Moreland (.429 BA on 7 AB) have all had success against the righty in their careers.  Eduardo Nunez is .308 on 13 at bats versus Hammel.

The game 2 starter for Boston has not been named, however, Brad Keller (2-3) will come to the mound for the Royals to build from his last start in which he received the tough-luck 1-0 loss at the Mariners to where he pitched 8 innings while allowing 1 run on 6 hits and 3 strikeouts.  In his last outing versus the Red Sox, Keller, in relief status, pitched an inning while giving up no runs or hits in a 5-4 loss at Fenway on 5-2-2018.  In his last 6 games, Keller is only charged with 9 earned runs while the under has been the result of 4 of this last 5 games.  In all, the Royals are 1-4 in his last 5 starts.

While the game 3 starter for Boston is unknown, Jakob Junis (5-10) will be making his return to the mound after some rough outings that has caused his record to dip in the past few weeks.  In his last outing, he pitched 5.1 innings while allowing 9 runs on 8 hits, 2 homers, and 2 strikeouts in a 9-3 loss at home to the Indians on 7-2-2018.  Junis has limited experience versus the dangerous hitters for Boston but has faced J.D. Martinez (1-5) in the past.  Junis has a whopping 28 earned runs in his last 5 starts while the over has been the result in 4 of his last 7 games.  Overall, the Royals are 0-7 in his last 7 starts.

Against The Spread Selection: Games 1, 2, 3: Boston Red Sox

My reason for the pick :

Without knowing who the pitchers are at this point for the Red Sox, there are some things that I can already identify in this game.  Number one, Boston is indeed the much better team coming into the series.  Two, they have the much better and experience pitching staff with the most intelligent hitters.  Number 3, the Red Sox have won 9 of their last 12 games and are once again leaders in the AL East division.  Finally, Boston is going up against a team that continues to reel in losing 9 straight series which, in essence, would be the final nail in the coffin for the Royals.  Take the Red Sox to pound the Royals to get the sweep.
