The Blue Jays are 4th in the division while the Yankees are 2nd. New York Yankees's Latest Performance :
The Yankees will begin their 11 game road trip against their division rivals the Blue Jays, the Yankees are a very good road team this season they are 23-15 when playing on the road this season. However, they are now in the second place in the AL East division. They will be coming off a hard-fought series against the Braves. Coming into this series the Yankees are 2nd best in pitching with a 2.42 ERA and 3rd in batting with 428 runs scored this season. The Yankees now have five players with at least 15 homers before the All-Star break for the first time in franchise history.
Player to watch in this series: Giancarlo Stanton, he struck his 20th home run of the season in Tuesday’s win over the Braves. His two-run shot off of Evan Phillips in the bottom of the eighth inning gave the Yankees a little more room to work with. He also had a single earlier in the game and scored an additional run. The homer was Stanton’s first since his 5-for-5 showing at the plate on June 24. A great player like him only needs one game to get going I expect him to go on a tear during this 11 game road trip. On the season he is slashing .267/.339/.509 with 20 homers and 48 RBIs.
- RBIs: Aaron Judge (56)
- Homers: Aaron Judge (23)
- Batting Average: Miguel Andujar (.282)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Sonny Gray, he will look to bounce back after being destroyed by the Red Sox allowing six runs on seven hits over just 2 1/3 innings. The blowout bumped his 4.93 ERA and 1.44 WHIP to 5.44 and 1.51, respectively.
Game 2: Luis Severino, He was terrific in Sunday’s victory over the Red Sox, scattering just two hits and three walks over 6 2/3 shutout innings. He has a 13-2 record and a 1.98 ERA, 0.95 WHIP he will continue his impressive form on Saturday against the Blue Jays.
Game 3: Domingo German, he was charged with three runs over 4 1/3 innings Tuesday, taking a no-decision in the Yankees’ 8-5 win over the Braves. He will close things out for the Yankees in the rubber game against the Blue Jays. He is 2-4 on the season with a 5.37 ERA.
Toronto Blue Jays's Latest Performance :
The Blue Jays will cap off their 9 game homestand as they will be playing against the Yankees in a 3 game series, the two teams are very familiar with one another because it is their 4th meeting of the season. The Blue Jays are 4th in the AL East division and they are 23-22 when playing at home this season, it is always a challenge going up against the hard-hitting Yankees but the Blue Jays does have the pieces to pull off an upset and play well at home. Coming into this series the Blue Jays are 14th in scoring with 376 runs scored this season and 23rd in pitching with a 4.57 ERA.
Player to watch in this series: Yangervis Solarte, he was huge in the comeback win for the Blue Jays against the Mets as he smashed a game-tying, three-run homer in the seventh inning. It was his first home run in 14 games but his 16th on the year. That puts him on pace for 30 this season. He will have to be on his A-game when the Yankees come to visit. When teams play against a great team like the Yankees they tend to bring out the best in players because in order to be the best you have to beat the best. Solarte is slashing .250/.308/.451 with 48 RBIs and 16 homers.
- RBIs: Yangervis Solarte (48)
- Homers: Yangervis Solarte (16)
- Batting Average: Tesocar Hernandez (.261)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Sam Gaviglio, he pitched well in a no-decision against the Tigers on Saturday, allowing three runs on four hits over his seven frames. He will have to do all he can to limit the Yankees from hitting homers as he will take the mound in the series opener.
Game 2: J.A. Happ, he gets the start for game 2 in the last outing he struggled against the Tigers in a loss on Sunday, allowing seven runs on 10 hits over 5 1/3 innings. He will look to bounce back on Saturday against the Yankees.
Game 3: Aaron Sanchez, he should be back healthy just in time to pitch in the rubber game against the Yankees, he was dealing with a sore index finger. He is 3-5 on the year with a 4.52 ERA and 1.51 WHIP.
How New York Yankees & Toronto Blue Jays Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Blue Jays are 11-3 in their last 14 home games.
Yankees are 46-19 in their last 65 overall.
Against The Spread Selection: New York Yankees
My reason for the pick :
The Yankees will be playing a much easier matchup this time around, the Yankees should be able to handle the Blue Jays on the road as I predict a 2-1 win for the Yankees. However, game 1 will be going to the Blue Jays as the Jays will take advantage of the struggling Gray but the Yankees will win the next two games with ease. The Yankees will have to stay within arm’s length of the Red Sox as they can’t afford to let Red Sox have a comfortable lead on top of the division. Every game for the Yankees should be very important with the way the Yankees are batting this season it is hard not to bet against them. It should be an easy series win for the Yankees over their division rival the Blue Jays. The Blue Jays will have no answer for the Yankees batting in this 3 games series.
