Houston Astros 's Latest Performance :
The Houston Astros have won 4 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 1-4. How Oakland Athletics & Houston Astros Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
For the season, the Astros are 47-43 ATS while the O/U is 39-46-5. On the other hand, the A’s are 42-48 ATS while the O/U is 43-39-6.
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Nether pitchers for this 4-game set have been named, however, here are a few points that are very critical to this matchup. As stated, the A’s have been playing great baseball lately in winning 14 of 18 with 8 of those wins coming on the road, as they are 8-3 in their last 11 road games. The pitching staff has been surrendering an average of 6.2 runs in their last 5 outings, however, 25 of those runs were in 2 losses to where the pitching staff gave up 15 runs against the Indians on 7-1-2018 while Cleveland hung another 10 runs on them last night in the 10-4 loss at Progressive. The offense is averaging a tad under 5 runs during this time. The Astros, on the other hand, after losing 3-straight, have won 4-in-a-row to where their offense has averaged 5.4 runs per game in their last 5 contests while the pitching staff has given up 3.4 runs during this time. Houston has dominated the A’s in recent matchups sweeping them twice at Oakland Alameda this year while also winning a 3-game set at Minute Maid Park on 4-29-2018. Of course, this is not the same Oakland team that the defending champs faced early on. It will be interesting to see how much better the A’s have truly gotten since that point.
Totals Selection: Game 1, 2, 3: Over/Game 4: Under
My reason for the prediction :
The over has been the play in 6 of the last 9 meetings amongst these two teams and while both teams have tended to trend towards the under lately, I expect this series to be one that will not only be interesting in that it is a division matchup where standings will certainly be in play, but, both these teams are playing great basketball at the moment and look to continue this momentum both at the mound and on the plate. Interestingly enough, Oakland has trended towards the over on the road this season (24-15-4) while the Astros have trended towards the over in their last 6 home matchups (4-2). With that being said, Oakland will be looking to erase many of the terrible outings that they have had against this dominant Astro team earlier on, thus providing them with a bit of motivation going into the series coupled with the momentum gained from their current winning streak. On the other hand, Houston continues to be the top dog in the division and will most certainly look to match their intensity in every way. While I feel that the starters on the mound will do their job, this series will certainly be one where the bulk of the runs will fall on the bullpens for both teams, thus allowing the total to soar in the end. In a set such as this with two hot offenses, one has to expect the over to be the play in the majority of the matchups.
The finale on Sunday amongst these two teams will be the most competitive matchup by far in that each team will be looking to end the series on a positive note. With none of the pitchers for this series being assigned at this moment, I would have to believe that there will be an intense amount of focus in which to pick up a huge division win. With this, I will lean towards the under in this matchup as, overall, the Astros are 18-25-1 on the O/U at home while the under is 5 of 8 for the A’s in their last 8 contest.
