The Padres will welcome the Dodgers to Petco Park as the two teams from the NL West will go head to head in a four-game series starting on Monday. The Padres are in the last place of the division while the Dodgers are in second. This will be their 4th meeting of the season, the Dodgers currently lead the season series 3-1.
All four games will be played at 10:10 PM ET.
Los Angeles Dodgers's Latest Performance :
The Dodgers will cap off their 7 game road trip against the Padres in a 4 game series, the Dodgers have definitely turned their season around after a bad start. They are coming off a series win over the Angels. The Dodgers are 21-17 when playing away from home and playing against the Padres might give them the opportunity to reclaim the NL West division, it is truly remarkable how the Dodgers were able to turn things around after many people thought that they were done for the season. One thing we all learn is we should never count out the Dodgers. Coming into this series the Dodgers are 7th in batting with 419 runs scored this season and 6th in pitching with a 3.57 ERA. The Dodgers are 41-2 in games they have led after eight innings.
Player to watch in this series: Matt Kemp, he went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs in the last series against the Angels. He laced RBI singles in both the fourth and sixth innings. Over the past few games, Kemp has shown us why he is still one of the best batters in the Majors. He is slashing .321/.356/.556 with 15 home runs and 57 RBI in 82 games and recently he is also coming off a 5 hit game. He is one of the main reasons why the Dodgers have turned this season around, he should be a factor against the Padres on the road.
- RBIs: Matt Kemp (57)
- Homers: Max Muncy (20)
- Batting Average: Matt Kemp (.321)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Clayton Kershaw, he allowed two earned runs, four hits, and no walk with two strikeouts over six innings in a victory Tuesday against the Pirates. He is starting to rediscover his old form, he’ll look to keep up the winning ways on Monday in San Diego.
Game 2: Rich Hill, he allowed two runs over five innings while fanning five in a win over the Pirates on Wednesday. He should recover in time from his neck injury to start on Tuesday. He is now 2-3 on the season and has a 4.56 ERA and 1.37.
Game 3: Kenta Maeda, he allowed one run in 5 2/3 innings and had to settle for a no-decision in a game the Dodgers eventually lost to the Angels on Friday. He struck out 9 batters and allowed two walks. He is 5-5 on the season with a 3.24 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 15 starts. He takes the mound on Wednesday.
Game 4: Ross Stripling, he held the Angels to one run in six innings while striking out seven batters to earn a win on Saturday. He will close things out for the Dodgers against the Padres in the rubber game he is 7-2 on the season with a 2.22 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP in 13 starts.
San Diego Padres's Latest Performance :
The Padres will be back at Petco Park for a 7 game homestand beginning Monday. The homestand opens with a four-game series against their division rivals the Dodgers. The Padres are in the last place of the NL West division with a record of 38-52 they are 19-25 when playing at home this season it will be a challenge for the Padres to play the Dodgers at this time considering how hot they are right now. The Padres will be coming off a tough series against the D-Backs. Coming into this series the Padres are 17th in pitching with a 4.13 ERA however they will have to find some offense going up against the Dodgers they are ranked 28th in batting with 332 runs scored this season.
Player to watch in this series: Christian Villanueva, the Padres will need him to bring his A-game when the Padres play the Dodgers, he is the team leader in homers and RBIs. He is slashing .226/.287/.477 on the year. The Padres are hoping they can turn their season around just like the Dodgers did and with Villanueva leading the way in the batting department would be a great start because the Padres desperately need someone to generate runs for them and Villanueva might be the batter that comes through for them in the Dodgers series at home.
- RBIs: Christian Villanueva (41)
- Homers: Christian Villanueva (17)
- Batting Average: Eric Hosmer (.261)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Luis Perdomo, he made his way back into the starting rotation after spending 2 months in the Triple-A and he earned another start with 5 2/3 strong innings on Wednesday in Oakland. He will do all he can to stay in the rotation as he will go up against a very tough pitcher Kershaw.
Game 2: Eric Lauer, he allowed one run on seven hits over five-plus innings in Thursday’s win over the Diamondbacks. He has a 4.84 ERA and 1.76 WHIP in 14 starts, he’s now allowed two or fewer runs in four of his last five outings. He takes the mound on Tuesday.
Game 3: Joey Lucchesi, he gave up two runs in 5 1/3 innings and picked up a loss against the D-Backs. He is now 4-4 with a 3.27 ERA and 1.18 WHIP after 13 starts he will be back on the mound Wednesday playing the Dodgers.
Game 4: Tyson Ross, he allowed eight earned runs, seven hits, and two walks over just two innings in a loss Saturday in Arizona. His ERA ballooned from 3.78 to 4.41 after that bad performance against the D-Backs. He has now lost four straight decisions and hasn’t won in six outings he will try to bounce back when he faces the Dodgers at home on Thursday.
How Los Angeles Dodgers & San Diego Padres Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Padres are 3-10 in their last 13 games vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15.
Dodgers are 13-4 in their last 17 road games.
Against The Spread Selection: Los Angeles Dodgers
My reason for the pick :
The Dodgers should be able to beat out their division rival Padres on the road as I predict a 3-1 series win for the Dodgers. The Dodgers are starting to look like the team that we are familiar with from last season. Everyone is playing well at the right time although the Dodgers still have to improve their bullpen because that cost them in the series opener against the Angels after a great pitching performance by Maeda. At this point of the season, the Dodgers shouldn’t be dropping any more games against weaker sides, they got the talent to go on a winning streak and take back the NL West division from the D-Backs. For the Padres it will be a tough 4 game series they will do all they can to keep up with the Dodgers.
The Dodgers reclaims the top spot in the NL West division as they beat out the Padres 3-1.
Betting trends for Los Angeles Dodgers:
- Dodgers are 10-2 in their last 12 road games vs. a right-handed starter.
Betting trends for San Diego Padres:
- Padres are 1-6 in their last 7 vs. a team with a winning record.
