Arizona Diamondbacks's Latest Performance :

The Arizona Diamondbacks have won 3 of their last 5 game to where the O/U was 3-2.  After being swept in a 3-game home set by the Giants on 7-1-2018, the D’backs would also go on to drop a 3-game home set to the St. Louis cardinals on 7-4-2018.  After losing game 1 of their next 4-game home set versus the Padres by a 6-3 score, they have since outscored San Diego in games 2 & 3 by a combined 23 runs to 6 to go up 2 games to 1 in the set.

For the season, the D’backs average 4.49 runs per game (13th) with a team batting average of .232 (28th), 101 homers (16th) along with 49 stolen bases (11th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 3.52 (3rd) with 779 strikeouts (11th) along with 41 quality starts for the season (7th).

David Peralta (.292 BA on 322 AB) and A.J. Pollock (.282 BA on 163 AB) have been the offensive stars for the Diamondbacks thus far.  Paul Goldschmidt (.277 BA on 329 AB) and Nick Ahmed (.232 BA on 285 AB) have also been solid offensively for Arizona this season.

Patrick Corbin (6-3, 112 IP, 38 R, 83 H, 11 HR, 30 BB, 140 SO, 3.05 ERA) and Zack Greinke (9-5, 109.2 IP, 42 R, 102 H, 16 HR, 20 BB, 112 SO, 3.36 ERA) have pitched the most innings for the D’backs this season while Zack Godley (10-6, 98.1 IP, 59 R, 102 H, 12 HR, 59 BB, 99 SO, 4.85 ERA) has also been solid on the mound thus far.

Colorado Rockies's Latest Performance :

The Colorado Rockies are winners of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 0-4-1.  Recently, the Rockies would not only win a 3-game road set against the Los Angeles Dodgers on 7-1-2018, they would also go on the sweep a 3-game home set against yet another division opponent, the San Francisco Giants, on 7-4-2018.  They would also come out blazing on the road against the Seattle Mariners as they took both games 1 & 2 by outscoring the home team by a combined 12 runs to 2.

For the season, the Rockies are averaging 4.70 runs per game (8th) with a team batting average of .253 (8th), 110 homers (11th), along with 45 stolen bases (13th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 4.77 (26th) with 752 strikeouts (15th), along with 40 quality starts (9th).

Nolan Arenado (.306 BA on 317 AB), DJ LeMahieu (.274 BA on 274 AB), Charlie Blackmon (.276 BA on 377 AB), and Trevor Story (.282 BA on 337 AB) have been the leading offensive superstars for the Colorado Rockies thus far.

Chad Betts (5-1) has pitched 95.1 innings while allowing 54 runs on 95 hits, 15 homers, 38 walks, and 69 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.10 while Jon Gray (7-7) has pitched 92 innings while allowing 61 runs on 108 hits, 11 homers, 29 walks, and 119 strikeouts with an ERA of 5.77.

How Arizona Diamondbacks & Colorado Rockies Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

For the season, the Dbacks are 48-42 ATS while the O/U is 34-42-5.  On the other hand, the Rockies are 45-44 ATS while the O/U is 39-43-7.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

None of the pitchers for this series have been assigned at this point, however, it is a fact that this will be a very important series for both teams.  On one hand, the D’backs look to continue to maintain their top position in the NL West while the Colorado Rockies would like nothing better than to gain some ground both on the Dodgers and on Arizona at home where they have stunk it up against this D’backs squad earlier in the season (6-10-2018).  Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see how the Rockies, who have won 8 of their last 9, respond to the now struggling D’backs (losers of 6 of 9) during what should be a very competitive matchup against two teams trending in opposite directions at this very important time of the season.

Against The Spread Selection: Game 1 & 3: Colorado Rockies/Games 2: Arizona Diamondbacks

My reason for the pick :

There is no telling what a bit of motivation and winning can do for a team.  The Colorado Rockies, after losing 13 of 19 at one point, righted the ship and have since won 5-straight and 8 of their last 9 games while looking for a great showing against NL West foe Arizona Diamondbacks beginning on Tuesday night at Coors Field.   I have to say that while Arizona has held on to the top spot in the division for much of the season, they have certainly been up and down all season, as has the Rockies, for the most part.  However, in this series, the D’backs will be facing a Rockies team that has garnered up a bit of confidence and will certainly be focused in on getting some wins in this series to gain some ground in the division.  With that being said, I expect the Rockies to set the tone for this series early in game 1 by cruising to a victory.  I also feel that Arizona will fight back in game 2 in order to obtain a hard-fought victory, however, the Rockies will end the series on a high note in winning the finale.  Again, the Rockies are 7-3 in their last 10 home games while the D’backs have also played well on the road as well (7-1 in last 8 road games).  Nonetheless, they are simply not getting it done at home, thus explaining their current skid.  It is for this reason that I trust the Rockies more at home during this time than I do in the D’backs on the road (or, at home, for that matter).  In all, I expect the Rockies to take the series in the finale on Sunday.

Arizona will certainly come back swinging against the Rockies in game 2.  The Diamondbacks are 4-2 in their last 6 series in which they lost game 1, and I fully expect them to get back in the series on Wednesday.  While I expect the Rockies to win this series altogether, Arizona, as stated, still has much to play for, namely keeping distance from the other teams within the competitive NL West division, as game to will certainly serve to salvage the series.  It is for this reason that I would expect the D’backs to refocus after game 1 to pull out a tough, low-scoring victory in game 2 of this matchup, thus tying the series.
