Seattle Mariners 's Latest Performance :
The Mariners have lost 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 1-3-1. Recently, the Mariners would sweep a 3-game home set versus the Kansas City Royals on 7-1-2018 while winning yet another 3-game home set versus the Angels on 7-5-2018. They would, however, run into problems with the Rockies at home as they would lose the first 2 games of a 2-game home weekend set by a combined 12 runs to 2.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The pitchers for the Angels in either game have not been named, however, Mike Leake (8-5) will come to the hill for the Mariners in game 1 looking to eliminate any remnants of his last outing where he pitched 4 innings while allowing 4 runs on 9 hits and 4 strikeouts in a 7-4 home loss versus the Angels on 7-4-2018. He is 8-2 in his last 10 starts, yet, 2-2 in his last 4 starts while the over has been the play in 4 of his last 6 games, overall. He has been credited with 10 earned runs on 25 hits in his last 4 outings. Leake has went over 6 innings pitching in 8 of his last 10 starts.
Andrelton Simmons (.389 BA on 18 AB), Mike Trout (.2-6), Justin Upton (6-12), and Luis Valbuena (.313 BA on 16 AB) have a great success against Leake in the past while Kole Calhoun, Ian Kinsler, and Martin Maldonado are all a combined (0-12) against the lefty in the past. Albert Pujols has a .143 batting average on 7 at bats versus Leake lifetime.
In game 2, Seattle will bring Marco Gonzales (9-5) to the mound and he will be looking for his 3rd straight win on the mound after his last outing when he pitched 6 solid innings while allowing 1 run on 5 hits and 7 strikeouts in a 4-1 home win versus the Angels on 7-5-2018. In his last outing prior to this versus the Angels, Gonzales went 5 innings while allowing 3 runs on 7 hits and 7 strikeouts in an 8-6 home win on 6-13-2018. After allowing 14 earned runs on 22 hits and 4 homers in his 4 games prior, the left-hander has only given up 2 earned runs on 11 hits and no homers in his last 2 games (all at home). The Mariners are 5-2 in his last 7 starts while the under has been the play in his last 4 appearances.
Martin Maldonado and Jefry Marte are each 1-2 against the lefty in the past while Andrelton Simmons is 2-4 lifetime against Gonzales. Mike Trout is 1-3 against him in his career while Pujols is 1-4. Kole Calhoun, Justin Upton, and Luis Valbuena are 0-7 combined against Gonzales in their respective careers.
Felix Hernandez (8-7) will once again come to the hill for the Mariners looking for his 3rd win in 4 starts. He had a rough go of it his last time out as he pitched 5 innings while allowing 3 runs on 8 hits and 1 homer in a 7-1 home loss to the Colorado Rockies on 7-6-2018. In his last outing versus the Angels, Hernandez lasted 5.2 frames while allowing 5 runs on 7 hits and 2 homers in an 8-2 home loss on 5-6-2018. In all, Hernandez has given up an average of 3 runs per game in his last 3 starts while giving up around 6 hits per game during this time. He has also given up a homer in each of his last 3 starts while the over has been the play in 2 of his last 4 appearances. The Mariners are 2-4 in his last 4 starts, overall.
Ian Kinsler (.268 BA on 1 AB), Martin Maldonado (3-9), Mike Trout (.345 BA on 55 AB), Justin Upton (2-8), and Luis Valbuena (1-1) have all had some success against ‘The King’ in the past while Kole Calhoun (.136 BA on 44 AB), Jefry Marte (.167 BA on 6 AB), Albert Pujols (.184 BA on 49 AB), and Andrelton Simmons (.083 BA on 12 AB) have indeed struggled against the right-hander lifetime.
Against The Spread Selection: Games 1 & 2: Seattle Mariners/Game 3: Los Angeles Angels
My reason for the pick :
The Mariners have seemed to be the proverbial ‘kryptonite’ for the Angles as they have won 6 of their last 9 matchups versus Los Angeles, yet, this will be their first matchup of the year at Angel Stadium. The fact is that while the Angels may have some powerful hitters in their lineup, they have not been able to obtain timely hits throughout their contests, thus allowing them to drop 10 of their last 14 games. During this time, the pitching staff has surrendered 63 runs to their opponents while the offense has put up 44 runs for an average of 3.2 runs per game in their last 14 matchups. Both Leake and Gonzales have been on fire lately and have had success against the lineup for the Angels. It is for this reason that I will certainly back the road team in both games 1 & 2 against this Angels team that continues to perform inconsistently on the mound and at the plate.
As a consolation, I feel as though the Angels have their best chance at a victory in the finale on Thursday as Felix Hernandez comes to the mound for the road team. He has been clobbered by the Angels lineup in recent outings and with his already present struggles on the mound this year, I expect the right-hander to most certainly have his problems against a team that will be focused on salvaging the series in game 3. In all, the Angels will recover on Thursday to take a low-scoring and competitive victory from the red-hot Mariners.
