St. Louis Cardinals's Latest Performance :

The St. Louis Cardinals come into this matchup winners of 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 2-3.  After being swept at home by the Atlanta Braves in a 3-game home set on 7-1-2018, the Cardinals won a 3-game road set versus the Arizona Diamondbacks on 7-4-2018.  They would also take a 2-1 lead in a 4-game road set versus the San Francisco Giants on 7-7-2018 by picking up the slim 3-2 win.

For the season, St. Louis averages 4.34 runs per game (18th) with a team batting average of .244 (15th), 111 homers (10th) along with 31 stolen bases (25th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 3.67 (9th) with 730 strikeouts (20th) along with 40 quality starts on the season (10th).

Chicago White Sox's Latest Performance :

The Chicago White Sox have lost 4 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 4-1.  Recently, the White Sox would go on to win a 3-game road set versus the Texas Rangers on 7-1-2018, but, they would drop a 3-game road set to the Cincinnati Reds on 7-4-2018.  They would go on to play horribly on the road against the defending champs, Houston Astros, in losing 3 of the first 4 games of the series by a combined score of 27-13.

For the season, the White Sox are averaging 4.02 runs per game (23rd) with a team batting average of .243 (19th), 96 homers (19th), along with 70 stolen bases (1st).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 4.96 (29th) with 659 strikeouts (28th) along with 36 quality starts this season (18th).

How St. Louis Cardinals & Chicago White Sox Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Miles Mikolas (9-3) will come to the mound for the Cardinals in game 1 looking for his 3rd win in 4 starts.  In his last outing, he pitched 6 innings while allowing 2 runs on 7 hits in an 8-4 road win versus the Arizona Diamondbacks on 7-4-2018.  This will be Mikolas’ first matchup against this Chicago White Sox lineup as he is 2-1 with an ERA of 2.39 with 9 strikeouts in his last 3 games.  The Cardinals are now 3-4 in the right-hander’s last 7 outings while the under has been the play in 4 of this last 6 games.  Mikolas has been credited with 12 earned runs in last 6 starts on 32 hits.

Mikolas will be opposed by Dylan Covey (3-4) who has struggled recently in being charged with 24 earned runs in his last 5 games on 31 hits with 6 homers.  In his last outing, he pitched only 3.2 innings while allowing 6 runs on 5 hits in a 7-4 road loss versus the Reds on 7-4-2018.  This will also be Covey’s first outing versus the St. Louis Cardinals as he is 0-2 with 3 strikeouts with a high ERA of 16.20 in his last 3 starts.  The over has been the play in his last 3 starts while the team is 0-4 in Covey’s last 4 starts.

Luke Weaver (5-7) will oppose Carlos Rodon (1-3) in game 2.   Weaver will be looking to win his 3rd game in 4 starts as he has been credited with 12 runs in his last 3 starts while the team is 4-2 in his last 6 appearances on the mound.  The over has been the play in 5 of 6 starts for Weaver while he has also had problems giving up the long ball lately (6 in his last 4 starts).  In his last outing, though, he was pretty solid in pitching 8 innings while allowing 2 runs on 2 hits, 1 homer, and 7 strikeouts in an 11-2 win over the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park on 7-5-2018.  This will be Weaver’s first matchup against the White Sox, however, in his last 3 starts, he is 2-1 with an ERA of 5.89 with 21 strikeouts.

Carlos Rodon is coming off of an outing to where he pitched 6 innings while allowing 2 runs on 5 hits, 1 homer, 6 walks, and 6 strikeouts in a 4-3 road loss to the Houston Astros on 7-5-2018.  In his last outing versus the Cardinals, he was horrible pitching 4 innings while allowing 7 runs on 7 hits, 1 homer, and 6 strikeouts in an 8-5 home loss dating back to 7-21-2015.  In all, Rodon has been charged with 17 runs in his last 6 starts on 31 hits.  The over has been the play in 3 of his last 4 contests while the team is 1-5 in Rodon’s last 6 outings at the mound.  Rodon has also given up 4 home runs in his last 3 starts.

Matt Carpenter (1-2) and Yadier Molina (1-3) has had a little success against Rodon in the past while Dexter Fowler and Marcell Ozuna are a combined 0-5 against the lefty lifetime.

Totals Selection: Games 1 & 2: Over

My reason for the prediction :

With the over being the play in 9 of these 4 pitchers last 12 outings combined with the fact that both teams have either been doing great at the plate in getting hits and scoring runs or they are consistently given up runs to their opponents due to inconsistencies on the mound, I will play the over for this series in that the over has also been the play in 5 of St. Louis’ last 8 games overall while it has been the result of 7 of the last 9 for the White Sox.  Again, each of the offense for both these teams are averaging less than 5 runs per game in their last 4, however, the pitching staff for the Sox have given up 23 runs in their last 2 outings while allowing 42 runs in their last 5 games.  With that being said, I will certainly take my chances with the over in this instance, particularly, with a pitching staff struggling as much as the White Sox are at this point.
