Baltimore Orioles's Latest Performance :

The Baltimore Orioles come into this matchup having lost 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 2-2-1.  Recently, Baltimore would tie a 4-game home set versus the Yankees on 7-11-2018 while losing to the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 5-4 in a makeup game on 7-12-2018.  Nonetheless, the Orioles would win their 3-game home set against the Texas Rangers on 7-15-2018 to end the first half of the season winning 2-straight contests.

For the season, the Orioles average only 3.56 runs per game (29th) with a team batting average of .227 (30th), 111 homers (13th) along with 36 stolen bases on the year (23rd).  Their pitching staff possesses an ERA of 4.88 (28th) with 750 strikeouts (24th) along with 42 quality starts (11th).

Trey Mancini (.216 BA, 328 AB) and Adam Jones (.275 BA, 378 AB) have been the most effective for the offensive attack of the Orioles this season, and with the departure of Manny Machado, their future contributions will certainly be appreciated.

Dylan Bundy (6-9, 103.1 IP, 57 H, 101 R, 20 HR, 34 BB, 113 SO, 4.35 ERA) and Kevin Gauseman (4-7, 112.1 IP, 127 H, 55 R, 19 HR, 27 BB, 97 SO, 4.33 ERA) have pitched the most innings for the Orioles this season.

Toronto Blue Jays's Latest Performance :

The Blue Jays are losers of 4 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 3-2.  On 6-3-2018, the Jays would win a 3-game home set versus the Yankees on 7-8-2018 while following this series up with a tie in their 2-game road set versus the Atlanta Braves on 7-11-2018.  The Blue Jays would also lose a 4-game road set to the Boston Red Sox on 7-15-2018 to end the first half of the 2018 season.

For the season, the Toronto Blue Jays are averaging 4.45 runs per game (12th) with a team batting average of .238 (24th), 126 homers (8th) along with 28 stolen bases (29th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 4.52 (23rd) with 799 strikeouts (19th) along with 35 quality starts on the season (25th).

Kevin Pillar (.247 BA on 344 AB), Justin Smoak (.245 BA on 306 AB), and Yangervis Solarte (.241 BA on 365 AB) have been the offensive spearheads for the Toronto Blue Jays this season.

Pitcher JA Happ (10-6, 109 IP, 60 R, 95 H, 17 HR, 35 BB, 121 SO with an ERA of 4.29) has been the most consistent pitcher for the Blue Jay’s bullpen this year.

How Baltimore Orioles & Toronto Blue Jays Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

For the season, the Orioles are 38-59 ATS while the O/U is 39-54-4.  On the other hand, the Blue Jays are 45-50 ATS while the O/U is 45-44-6.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Dylan Bundy (6-9) will pull the start for the O’s in game 1 looking to halt a 2-game skid on the mound.  In his last outing, Bundy pitched 4 innings while allowing 5 runs on 5 hits, 1 homer, and 5 strikeouts in a 9-0 home loss versus the Yankees on 7-11-2018.  In his last outing versus the Blue Jays, Bundy was solid in pitching 7 innings while allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, 1 homer and 10 strikeouts in a 7-2 home loss on 4-9-2018.  In his last 4 games, the righty is charged with 16 earned runs on 26 hits to where the under has been the play in 3 of his last 5 games.  In all, the Orioles are 3-3 in Bundy’s last 6 starts.

Luke Maile (2-4), and Justin Smoak (.375 BA on 8 AB) have had the most success against Bundy in the past for the Blue Jays while Kendrys Morales (.182 BA on 11 AB) and Devon Travis (.143 BA on 7 AB) have struggled against the right-hander in their careers.  Aledmys Diaz, Curtis Granderson, Teoscar Hernandez, Russell Martin, and Yandrevis Solarte are a combined 0-17 against Bundy lifetime.

Bundy’s counterpart will be Sam Gaviglio (2-3) who will certainly be looking to end his string of no decisions in order to get back into the win column.  In his last 3 starts, Gaviglio has been charged with 8 earned runs on 14 hits while the team is 4-2 in his last 6 starts (0-2 in last 2).  The under has been the play in 3 of the last 4 starts for the right-hander, however, he has recently surrendered the long ball more than I am sure he would have liked (5 in last 5 appearances).  In his last outing, Gaviglio pitched 3.1 inning while allowing a run on 4 hits and 1 homer in a 6-2 road loss to Boston on 7-14-2018.  The righty has not had much experience facing the most within the Orioles lineup, however, he has had success against Tim Beckham in the past (0-2).

The pitchers for game 2 and 3 for the Orioles have not been announced, however, Marcus Stroman (2-7) will get the start for the Blue Jays in game 2.  Stroman has been shaky lately after missing a bit of time due to an injury and since returning has been credited with 11 earned runs in his last 5 games on 27 hits.  Toronto is 3-4 in his last 7 games while the under is 7-0 in his last 7 appearances.  In his last outing, Stroman went 5 innings while allowing 4 runs on 5 hits, and 1 homer in a 5-2 road loss to the Red Sox on 7-15-2018, however, in his last outing versus the Orioles, Stroman lasted 6 innings while allowing 2 runs on 6 hits with 7 strikeouts in a 2-1 home loss on 9-13-2017.

Mark Trumbo (.412 BA on 17 AB), Jonathan Schoop (.238 BA on 21 AB), Joey Rickard (1-3), Jace Peterson (1-3), Trey Mancini (.714 BA on 7 AB), Adam Jones (.318 BA on 22 AB), and Chris Davis (.267 BA on 15 AB) have dominated the right-hander lifetime.  On the other hand, Manny Machado (.158 BA on 19 AB), Caleb Joseph (.143 BA on 7 AB), and Tim Beckham (0-8) have struggled against Stroman in their respective careers.

For the finale, J.A. Happ (10-6) will come to the hill for the Blue Jays looking to end a streak of 3 games to where he surrendered 13 earned runs on 17 hits along with 4 homers.  During this time, the Blue Jays have only been 0-3 while the over has been the play in Happ’s last 5 appearances on the mound.  In his last outing, Happ pitched 3.2 innings while allowing 5 runs on 5 hits, a homer, and 6 punch outs in a 6-4 road loss at Boston on 7-12-2018.  In his last outing versus the lowly Orioles, Happ pitched 7 innings of solid baseball while allowing 1 run on 2 hits in a 5-1 home win on 6-8-2018.

Tim Beckham (.308 BA on 13 AB), Caleb Joseph (.364 BA on 11 AB), Joey Rickard (.333 BA on 12 AB), Jonathan Schoop (.226 BA on 31 AB), Manny Machado (.214 BA on 28 AB), and Danny Valencia (.200 BA on 15 AB) have the most experience and success against Happ.  Chris Davis (.190 BA on 21 AB), Adam Jones (.162 BA on 37 AB), Trey Mancini (.167 BA on 12 AB), Mark Trumbo (.053 BA on 19 AB), and Austin Wynns (0-2) have struggled against the left-hander in their careers.

Against The Spread Selection: Games 1, 2, & 3: Toronto Blue Jays

My reason for the pick :

The inevitable trade for Manny Machado has been completed, leaving the Orioles in a position to where their offense will certainly struggle, even more than usual.  Aside from Machado departing, other players may also be shipped in the weeks to come, thus making for a stressful situation in Baltimore.  With that being said, the Blue Jays have played terrible all season and while they can certainly thank the Orioles for them not occupying the cellar of the AL East, it is fair to say that Toronto is indeed better than the Orioles.  Also, playing at Rogers Centre could also play a key role in this series as well in that Toronto has won 6 of the last 7 against the O’s, with 4-straight being played north of the border.  In all, I only see the Blue Jays sweeping the Orioles in this division matchup, as the Orioles simply do not have much to play for.
