The Tigers will welcome the Red Sox to Comerica Park as the two teams will go head to head in a 3 game series starting on Friday. The Tigers are 3rd in the NL Central division while the Red Sox have the best record in the Majors. This will be their 2nd meeting of the season the Red Sox won the first matchup at home.

Game 3: 1:10 PM ET
Boston Red Sox's Latest Performance :
The Red Sox are entering the second half of the season with the best record in the Major they are 68-30 on the season, they now have a comfortable 4 1/2 game lead over their rivals the Yankees. The Red Sox will begin their 6 game road trip against the struggling Tigers. The Red Sox have been superb on the road this season they have the best road record they are 34-17 when playing on the road this season. Coming into this series the Red Sox are 5th best in pitching with a 3.59 ERA. They are the best batting team with 530 runs scored through 98 games played this season. The Red Sox batting depth has been great all year long and playing against the Tigers batting shouldn’t be a problem. However, the Red Sox bullpen will have to do a better job in the future if they want to make a deep run into the postseason after they were bounced in the AL Division Series in the past two years.
Player to watch in this series: J.D. Martinez, he has been terrific for the Red Sox this season and it is his first full season with the team. Martinez will have a chance to play against his old team so I expect him to put up big numbers in this series as he leads the batting charge for the Red Sox. He’s having a tremendous season at the plate, slashing .330/.392/.648 with 29 homers and 80 RBI. Once Martinez is hot it will be very hard for the pitchers from the opposing team to slow him down.
- RBIs: J.D. Martinez (80)
- Homers: J.D. Martinez (29)
- Batting Average: Mookie Betts (.359)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: David Price, he finished the first half of the season with a 10-6 record, 4.42 ERA, and 1.25 WHIP. He will return to the mound in the series opener against the Tigers.
Game 2: Brian Johnson, he is doing a pretty solid job ever since being called up from the Minor he will get another start in the second game against the Tigers. He is 1-2 on the season with a 4.20 ERA and 1.46 WHIP.
Game 3: Chris Sale, he has a 2.23 ERA, 0.899 WHIP, and 188/31 K/BB ratio across 129 innings in the first half for Boston. He will return to the mound in the rubber game against the Tigers.
Detroit Tigers's Latest Performance :
The Tigers are coming off a solid victory over the World Series Champion Astros in the rubber game before the break. They will now host the best team in the Majors the Red Sox in a 3 game series. The Tigers are in the 3rd place of the AL Central division with a record of 41-57, it will be hard for them to make an impact as we head into the second half of the season. The Tigers trail the Indians by 12 1/2 games. They are 25-23 when playing at home. Playing against the Red Sox will be a challenge for them considering how well the Red Sox has been playing as of late. Coming into this series the Tigers are 24th in batting with 386 runs scored this season and 21st in pitching with a 4.42 ERA.
Player to watch in this series: Nicholas Castellanos, he is the team best player by far, he leads the team in RBIs, homers, and batting average. He will have to be on his A-game playing against the Red Sox at home. He is having a fantastic season despite the lack of support around him in the batting order. He has a .305/.359/.517 slash line with 15 home runs, 56 RBI and 54 runs scored in 94 games. A player can do so much for a team but if he doesn’t have the correct supporting cast it makes it hard to win games.
- RBIs: Nicholas Castellanos (56)
- Homers: Nicholas Castellanos (15)
- Batting Average: Nicholas Castellanos (.305)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Matthew Boyd, he will look to bounce back against the Red Sox after the All-Star Break, he is 4-8 on the season with a 4.76 ERA and 1.21 WHIP.
Game 2: Mike Fiers, he has 3.70 ERA and 1.22 WHIP across 18 starts. He will take the mound in the second game at home against the Red Sox.
Game 3: Michael Fulmer, he is 3-9 with a 4.50 ERA in 19 starts. He has 93 strikeouts and 38 walks in 112 innings. He will close things out against the Red Sox in the rubber game.

Tigers are 5-2 in their last 7 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600.
Red Sox are 4-0 in their last 4 vs. American League Central.
Against The Spread Selection: Boston Red Sox
My reason for the pick :
Despite the Tigers winning the rubber game against the Astros before the break, however, they will prove to be no match for the Red Sox. The Red Sox will sweep the series on the road against the Tigers. J.D. Martinez will be motivated to play his former team again look for him to put up big numbers in this series. The Tigers will be shifting their focus towards rebuilding the team for the future as Castellanos can’t do it all on his own especially playing against the best team in the MLB. The Red Sox should pick up this series win on the road with ease over the Tigers as they extend their lead on top of the AL East division.
