San Diego Padres vs New York Mets

It’s East Coast vs. West Coast when the San Deigo Padres visit Citi Field to take on the New York Mets in a three-game series that kicks off on Monday night. There should be plenty of fireworks as two last-place teams in their respective divisions take the field.

When these two teams clashed back in April, the Mets took two out of three in San Diego capped off by a 14-2 blowout before heading back East. That wasn’t before the Padres handed down a beating of their own the night prior with 12-2 win over the Mets.

San Diego Padres's Latest Performance :

The San Diego Padres are making moves to improve their team and get back to winning ball games. They offloaded relievers Brad Hand and Adam Cimber to the Cleveland Indians and in return locked up 22-year old catcher and switch hitter, Francisco Mejia. That gives the Padres 10 prospects in MLB’s Pipeline’s Top 100. He’ll report to Triple A El Paso, but might be in the majors before you know it.

New York Mets's Latest Performance :

The New York Mets are struggling to get out of last place and are just about even with the Marlins. They are 4-6 in their last ten games and Miami is 5-5 in their last ten games before the break. The Mets will have some help against the Padres with Yoenis Cespedes returning to left field after coming off of a nine-week stint on the disabled list. He was batting .255 with eight home runs in 37 games before the injury.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

If this series is anything like the last one, fans are in for a treat. There were a total of 36 runs in the last three-game series. Defense certainly wasn’t part of the plan and pitchers were lit up at will. Things should settle down now that we are moving into the second half of the season, but neither team has anything to lose so another slugfest would be a welcomed sight in Citi Field.
