San Diego Padres 's Latest Performance :
The Padres will be on the road to start things off in the second half of the season playing against the Phillies in a 3 game set, it has been quite a disappointing first half of the season for the Padres they are currently in the last place of the tough NL West Conference. The Padres aren’t that good on the road this season they are only 20-28 when playing on the road this season. Coming into this series the Padres are 19th in pitching with a 4.29 ERA and 27th in batting with 365 runs scored this season.
Player to watch in this series: Christian Villanueva, he is the best Padres player heading into the All-Star Break he is the team leader in homer and RBIs at 19 and 43 respectively. He has been very inconsistent over the season’s first half, slashing .232/.289/.483, he will look to be a factor against the Phillies on the road.
- RBIs: Christian Villanueva (43)
- Homers: Christian Villanueva (19)
- Batting Average: Jose Pirela (.261)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Clayton Richard, he is 7-8 on the season and is coming off a no-decision against the D-Backs he will be on the mound on the road against the Phillies. He has a 4.43 ERA and 1.31 WHIP.
Game 2: Tyson Ross, he has a 4.24 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 97/43 K/BB ratio across 108 1/3 innings in his 19 starts. He is rumored to be traded before the trade deadline to the Yankees.
Game 3: Eric Lauer, he has a 4.87 ERA and 1.67 WHIP over 77 2/3 innings in his 16 starts. He will be on the mound in the rubber game against the Phillies.
Philadelphia Phillies's Latest Performance :
The Phillies will begin the second half of the season by opening up a 6 game homestand they will be playing against the Padres in a 3 game set, the Phillies are now on top of the NL East division with a record of 53-42 they lead the Braves by only half a game. The Phillies are a really solid team at home this season they are 30-16 on the year. Coming into this series the Phillies are 21st in batting with 411 runs scored this season and 11th in pitching with a 3.85 ERA. They will look to close out the second half of the season strong and remain the NL East division leader and playing against the Padres at home will surely help. With the trade deadline looming the Phillies front office will be active as they will try to improve their offense with Manny gone to the Dodgers the Phillies might consider trading for Moustakas.
Player to watch in this series: Odubel Herrera, he will look to return from the All-Star break with a bang he leads the team in home runs this season. He is playing his best baseball for the Phillies this season and is hoping that he can keep the ball rolling against the Padres at home. He is slashing .275/.327/.460 with 52 RBIs. Great players tend to play well in the second half of the season and I expect Herrera to do just that.
- RBIs: Rhys Hoskins (56)
- Homers: Odubel Herrera (16)
- Batting Average: Odubel Herrera (.275)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Jake Arrieta, he will be back on the mound in the season series against the Padres, he has a 3.23 ERA and 1.22 WHIP over 18 starts.
Game 2: Vince Velasquez, he is 5-8 with a 4.39 ERA in 18 starts, he will look to pick up a win after the All-Star break against the Padres in game number 2. He will do the best he can to limit the homers to a minimum.
Game 3: Nick Pivetta, he will return to the mound for the rubber game against the Padres, he is 6-7 with a 4.58 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and 113 strikeouts through 96 1/3 innings this year.
How San Diego Padres & Philadelphia Phillies Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Phillies are 4-0 in their last 4 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.
Padres are 17-37 in their last 54 games following an off day.
Against The Spread Selection: Philadelphia Phillies
My reason for the pick :
The Phillies want to start the second half of the season in the right direction, therefore, I predict a series sweep for the Phillies at home over the Padres. The Phillies wants to send a message to their rivals in the NL East stating that they are not giving up the top spot any time soon. Playing against the Padres will definitely boost their team confidence on the plate as the season progresses. As for the Padres, they will have no answer for the Phillies considering how good the Phillies are when playing at home. The Phillies are looking to make the postseason and the Padres are focusing on the future. Two teams different paths.
The Phillies to sweep the Padres at home 3-0.
Betting trends for San Diego Padres :
- Padres are 2-6 in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a winning record.
Betting trends for Philadelphia Phillies:
- Phillies are 4-0 in their last 4 home games.
