Detroit Tigers vs Kansas City Royals

The Kansas City Royals and Kaufman Stadium play host to the visiting Detroit Tigers in a three-game series set to kick off on Monday night in an AL Central match-up. Heath Filmeyer (0-1, 3.34 ERA) will take the mound for Kansas City against Tiger lefty Francisco Liriano (3-5, 4.67 ERA).

The Royals and the Indians were the only two teams to come out of the break with wins. Detroit, after going 3-7 in their last ten, knows they must win this series to keep pace with the Minnesota Twins.

Detroit Tigers's Latest Performance :

The Detroit Tigers are trailing the second-place Minnesota Twins by five and are looking to make some moves to take hold of second place. Dealing pitcher Michael Fulmer might be one of those moves. However, he was recently put on the 10-day disabled list which puts him right at the deadline and gives teams very little time to evaluate how severe his injury really is.

Kansas City Royals's Latest Performance :

The Kansas City Royals would like to make it a series against Detroit and win some games in the second half of the season. They have struggled mightily to gain any type of momentum which needs to carry over to next year and possibly the following. They do have advantages with extra and high draft picks this year, next year, and beyond. Even though their season is over, they still need to use this season to get their act together for the future.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Kansas City has played the Tigers tough this season splitting the first couple of series and taking the last series. Detroit will look to turn the tide of course, but while it’s easy to overlook the worst team in baseball and focus on the upcoming series with the Cleveland Indians that immediately follows, don’t be surprised if the Royals don’t show up once again.
