Houston Astros vs Colorado Rockies

The red-hot Rockies will welcome the Astros to Coor Field as the two teams will go head to head in a two-game interleague series starting on Tuesday. The Rockies are 2nd in the NL West division while the Astros are leading the AL West division. This will be their first meeting of the season.

Game 1&2: 8:40 PM ET

Houston Astros's Latest Performance :

The Astros will cap off their 5 game road trip by playing against the Rockies, the Astros have now solidified themselves as the AL West leader they have a 6 game lead over the second place the Mariners. The Astros are coming off a solid series victory against their division rivals the Angels and winning 4 of their last 5 games. It would be interesting to see who will come up on top in this series since it is the first meeting between the two sides. The Astros have the best road record in the Majors this season they are 34-14 when playing on the road this season. Coming into this series the Astros are the best team in pitching by far with an ERA of 2.89 they have got the best pitching rotations that can change the game instantly and 3rd in batting with 510 runs scored this season.

Player to watch in this series: George Springer, he hit a grand slam as part of a five-run sixth inning he was 0 for 9 prior to the slam this hit could potentially boost his confidence on the plate. It was his fifth career grand slam. The homer was his 16th of the year. He is slashing .249/.335/.421 with 51 RBI, 67 runs scored and six steals atop the Astros lineup. A great player like Springer just needs one at-bat to get going expect him to put up big numbers in the next few games, the momentum is certainly on his side at the moment.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Alex Bregman (64)
  • Homers: Alex Bregman (20)
  • Batting Average: Jose Altuve (.329)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Gerrit Cole, he set a club record for the most strikeouts prior to the All-Star break by striking out 177 batters in 128 1/3 innings in 20 starts. He averaged 12.4 strikeouts, 5.68 hits and only 3.16 walks per nine innings in the first half. He is now 10-2 with a 2.52 ERA.

Game 2: Charlie Morton, he is coming off his first All-Star game. He’s struck out 146 batters in 112 1/3 innings and has a 1.15 WHIP. The Astros went 12-7 in games he started. This is the best season of his career he will be on the mound in the rubber game against the Rockies.

Colorado Rockies's Latest Performance :

The Rockies are on the verge of sweeping the D-Backs as they are currently on a 7 game winning streak. This is the Rockies first win streak of six or more games accomplished against teams with a winning record in club history. They will play the World Series Champs Astros next, they are now .500 team at home they now have a  23-23 record after struggling at Coor Field at the start of the season. This will be their biggest challenge yet playing against the Astros at home. The Rockies are now only one game behind the Dodgers for the top spot in the NL West division. Coming into this series the Rockies are 6th in batting with 484 runs scored this season and 25th in pitching with a 4.72 ERA.

Player to watch in this series: Nolan Arenado, he will have to lead the team yet again playing against a great team like the Astros you would expect Nolan to be on his A-game and do all that he can to protect his home pitch and keep the winning streak train going. He leads the team in RBIs, homers and batting average. He has 12 homers and 30 RBI in his last 25 games and 25 homers and 72 RBI for the season. The Rockies are definitely looking like legit contenders after they have won 6 consecutive series win something they have not done since 2014.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Nolan Arenado (72)
  • Homers: Nolan Arenado (25)
  • Batting Average: Nolan Arenado (.313)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Tyler Anderson, he will kick things off for the Rockies against the Astros, in his last four starts, Anderson has posted a 0.96 ERA, a .147 batting average against and 31 strikeouts to eight walks in 28 innings pitched. He is 6-3 on the year.

Game 2: Jon Gray, he returned from the Minors to hold the Mariners to one run and five hits in a season-best 7 1/3 innings while winning his last start. He is 8-7 on the season and is looking to lower his 5.44 ERA but it is going to be a tough task as he will go up against All-Star Charlie Morton in the rubber game.

How Houston Astros & Colorado Rockies Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Rockies are 15-3 in their last 18 vs. a team with a winning record.

Astros are 53-26 in their last 79 road games vs. a right-handed starter.

Against The Spread Selection: Series split at 1-1

My reason for the pick :

Both teams are certainly playing at their very best to start the second half of the season, the Rockies are on a 7 game winning streak while the Astros have won 4 of their last five games. The first game will set the tone for the series it will be a pitching showdown between Cole and Anderson. Anderson has a 0.96 ERA in his last four starts so I expect him to be terrific on the mound against Cole in the series opener if the starters of the two teams are doing a terrific job then it has to come down to who has the better bullpen the Astros are 3rd while the Rockies are ranked 5th. It is fair to say that this interleague series will end in a 1-1 both teams will give their all but a split seems like a fair result for both of the team. Playing against a team like the Astros you know that the Rockies would not back down because playing against a great team like the Astros tend to bring out the best baseball in players. Both games will go down to the wire.

The Rockies and the Astros split the two-game series at 1-1.

Betting trends for Houston Astros:

Betting trends for Colorado Rockies:
