St. Louis Cardinals's Latest Performance :
The Cardinals will cap off their 8 game road trip against the Reds in a 3 game set, they are 3rd in the NL Central division with a 50-48 record and a 26-24 road record. Coming into this series the Cards are 12th in pitching with a 3.91 ERA and 12th in batting with 437 runs scored this season. They are coming off an impressive comeback win against the Cubs. The team is hoping that they can ride the momentum from this win and use it in their next road game against the Reds. To be able to beat the Cubs on the road makes you wonder do the Cards got another run in them to make the postseason playing against the Reds on the road would help them extend their winning record.
Player to watch in this series: Matt Carpenter, he homered for a sixth consecutive contest in Saturday’s 6-3 win over the Cubs in the second game of a doubleheader. Six games are the longest homer streak in franchise history, while he has now set the club record with each of his last 12 hits going for extra bases. He will definitely play a huge part in the series against the Reds. During the streak, he has raised his batting line from .260/.370/.510 to .277/.386/.593. He now has 23 homers on the year to go with 51 RBIs.
- RBIs: Jose Martinez (56)
- Homers: Matt Carpenter (25)
- Batting Average: Jose Martinez (.298)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Daniel Poncedeleon, he will be starting for the Cards in the series opener against the Reds, he earned his way to the Majors after posting a 2.41 ERA and 71/35 K/BB ratio in 59 2/3 innings through 11 starts.
Game 2: Carlos Martinez, he will be returning from a right oblique strain injury to start on Tuesday for the Cardinals, he has a 3.39 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 89/48 K/BB ratio over 95 2/3 innings.
Game 3: Jack Flaherty, the rookie will close things off for the Cardinals, he holds an impressive 3.15 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and 96/28 K/BB ratio in 80 innings through his 15 starts this season.
Cincinnati Reds's Latest Performance :
The Reds weren’t able to kick off their 10 game homestand on the right foot as they are on the verge of getting swept by the Pirates. Up next they will have the Cards coming into town as they will be playing in a three-game set. It will be a great confidence booster after the Reds just beat them last week. The Reds are in the last place of the NL Central they are now 14 1/2 back so it is time for them to focus on the future and start thinking about the next season because this season is starting to look like a lost season for them. The Reds are 21-28 when playing at home this season. Although the Reds are 8th in batting with 462 runs scored this season they still have to improve their pitching it doesn’t help if they are 27th in pitch with a 4.75 ERA it will be very tough for them to win games with those kinds of pitching numbers.
Player to watch in this series: Curt Casali, he hit a two-run home run in Saturday’s loss to the Pirates. His two-run homer in the 7th inning kept the Reds from being shut out, and it ended up being the only runs his side would be able to score on the evening. He finished 1-for-3 from the plate. He looks to keep the momentum going against the Cards at home. He is batting .304/.385/.500 in parts of 19 games. Playing on a bad team would give players like Casali the opportunity to showcase his talents in the Majors.
- RBIs: Eugenio Suarez (71)
- Homers: Eugenio Suarez (19)
- Batting Average: Scooter Gennett (16)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Luis Castillo, he is 5-8 on the season and will be making his return to the mound against the Cards on Monday he has a 5.49 ERA and 1.38 WHIP through 20 starts.
Game 2: Homer Bailey, he will rejoin the Reds’ rotation Tuesday versus the Cardinals. He holds a 6.68 ERA over 12 starts this season.
Game 3: Tyler Mahle, he will close things off for the Reds in the rubber game, he is 7-8 on the season and carries a 4.32 ERA and 1.47 WHIP.
How St. Louis Cardinals & Cincinnati Reds Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Reds are 5-2 in their last 7 after allowing 5 runs or more in their previous game.
Cardinals are 0-4 in their last 4 games following a win.
Against The Spread Selection: St. Louis Cardinals
My reason for the pick :
The Cardinals should be able to pick up an impressive 2-1 series road win against the Reds, all eyes will be on Carpenter to see whether he can keep his homer streak alive against the Reds. The Cardinals have been playing really well as of late and to beat the Cubs on the road tells me that the Reds should not be a problem for them. Carpenter is heating up at the right time for the Cards with his impressive numbers on the plate to start off the second half of the season we might see the Cardinals climb up the standings in the NL Central division. The Cardinals will have to take it game by game, however, the team confidence is certainly high at the moment and the team chemistry will certainly follow. For the Reds, they will have to fix their pitching woes going forward, however, the team might look at this as a silver lining because it is an easy fix considering how well the Reds batters are on the plate this season.
Betting trends for St. Louis Cardinals:
- Cardinals are 4-1 in their last 5 after allowing 5 runs or more in their previous game.
Betting trends for Cincinnati Reds:
- Reds are 11-4 in their last 15 home games.
