Arizona Diamondbacks vs San Diego Padres

The Padres will welcome the Diamondbacks to Petco Park as the two teams from the NL West division will go head to head in a 3 game series starting on Friday. The Padres are in the last place of the division while the Diamondbacks are 2nd. This will be their 3rd meeting of the season the D-Backs lead the season series 1-0. In the second meeting, the 4 game set ended in a 2-2 split.

Game 1: 10:10 PM ET

Game 2: 8:40 PM ET

Game 3: 4:10 PM ET

Arizona Diamondbacks's Latest Performance :

The D-Backs will cap off their 7 game road trip against the Padres. The D-Backs were able to bounce back after losing the series to the Rockies, they are on the verge of beating out the Cubs. In their last three games, they were able to put up 18 runs while giving up only 3 runs. They are on a 3 game winning streak, the D-Backs are only 1/2 game back of the Dodgers for the top spot in the NL West division. The D-Backs are 29-21 when playing away from home this season. Coming into this series the D-Backs are 6th in pitching with a 3.63 ERA and 12th in batting with 454 runs scored this season. Playing against the Padres on the road will give the D-Backs a great opportunity to reclaim the NL West division lead.

Player to watch in this series: A.J. Pollock, he went 2-for-5 with an RBI and run scored in a win over the Cubs. He knocked in the run on an RBI single in the first to give the Diamondbacks an early 1-0 lead. It is his 40th RBI of the season and the pair of hits have his average sitting at exactly .300 over 56 games. I expect him to heat up in the second half of the season for the D-Backs. Pollock will end the season on a strong note it was unfortunate that he had to be injured at the start of the season. It is not how you start but it is how you finish.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Paul Goldschmidt (54)
  • Homers: Paul Goldschmidt (22)
  • Batting Average: David Peralta (.288)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Zack Greinke, he allowed just two hits and one run over eight innings while striking out 13 in a 6-1 victory over the Rockies on Sunday. In six straight starts, he’s allowed no more than two runs. He returns to the mound Friday against the Padres.

Game 2: Patrick Corbin, in his last outing he allowed one run over seven innings and striking out nine in a 7-1 victory over the Cubs. He now has 158 strikeouts in 129 2/3 innings, he has a 3.13 ERA and 1.04 WHIP.

Game 3: Clay Buchholz, he made a terrific return to the mound allowing just one run over 6 2/3 innings to lower his ERA with the D-Backs to 2.38 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in eight starts. He will close things off against the Padres in the rubber game on Sunday.

San Diego Padres's Latest Performance :

The Padres will be back at Petco Park for a 5 game homestand beginning Friday. The homestand opens with a three-game series against the D-Backs. The Padres are in the last place of the NL West division, the team focus for the second half of season is to focus on rebuilding for the future. They are 2-8 in their last 10 games. Coming into this series the Padres are 27th in batting with 386 runs scored this season and 20th in pitching with a 4.35 ERA. The Padres bullpen will have to show up when they play against the D-Backs in the three-game series. It is always tough to go up against the D-Backs but don’t be surprised if the Padres are able to pull off an upset.

Player to watch in this series: Wil Myers, he remains one of the bright spots in the Padres offense in the second half of the season. He was able to pick up 3 RBIs in his last outing. He has nine homers and 26 RBI in his 37 games. As long as he can stay healthy, he should continue to be able to put up huge numbers for the Padres in the second half of the season. I expect him to play a major role when the D-Backs come to visit Petco Park.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Christain Villanueva (43)
  • Homers: Christain Villanueva (19)
  • Batting Average: Jose Pirela (.259)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Tyson Ross, he picked up a win by holding the Phillies to two runs over five innings. He is now 6-8 with a 4.29 ERA and 1.29 WHIP on the season he will try to make it two wins a row against the D-Backs on Friday in the series opener.

Game 2: Luis Perdomo, he gave up three runs on five hits over his 6 1/3 innings of work. He’ll look to further improve upon his 6.99 ERA and 1.90 WHIP when he takes the mound on Saturday against the D-Backs.

Game 3: Joey Lucchesi, he held the Mets to two runs over 5 1/3 innings Monday for his fifth win of the year. The rookie will close things off for the Mets against the D-Backs in the rubber game. He has a 3.34 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 75/25 K/BB ratio through his first 72 2/3 major league innings.

How Arizona Diamondbacks & San Diego Padres Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Padres are 8-23 in their last 31 overall.

Diamondbacks are 11-4 in their last 15 road games vs. a right-handed starter.

Against The Spread Selection: Arizona Diamondbacks

My reason for the pick :

The D-Backs can’t afford to drop any more winnable games if they want to head into the postseason as the NL West division champions. I expect the D-Backs to sweep the Padres on the road. The Padres batters won’t be able to crack the D-Backs pitchers Greinke and Corbin because they are on another level when it comes to pitching at the moment. Buchholz is starting to gain his confidence on the mound. The Padres will have a tough time scoring against them. The D-Backs are starting to look like the team that started the season winning 9 straight series and they did that with elite pitching and with A.J. Pollock starting to look good on the plate the D-Backs are starting to look like contenders that critics predicted at the very start of the year.

The D-Backs to sweep the Padres on the road 3-0.

Betting trends for Arizona Diamondbacks:

  • Diamondbacks are 15-5 in their last 20 road games.

Betting trends for San Diego Padres:

  • Padres are 5-13 in their last 18 games vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15.
