Cleveland Indians vs Detroit Tigers
The Cleveland Indians roll into the Motor City to take on the Detroit Tigers on Friday night at Comerica Park. Cleveland is currently the only team in the Al Central with a winning record despite having dropped their last three and going 5-5 in their last ten. Detroit sits in the number three spot and has gone 3-7 in their last ten.
On the mound to kick off this three-game series for the Detroit Tigers is right-hander Mike Fiers (7-6, 3.49 ERA) against fellow right and Cleveland ace Carlos Carrasco (12-5, 4.03 ERA).
Cleveland Indians's Latest Performance :
The Cleveland Indians have been in the driver seat the entire season in the AL Central. Minnesota has shown promise but is currently 7.5 games back and on a short win streak despite Cleveland’s three-game losing streak. They were recently roughed up by the Pittsburgh Pirates which is reminiscent of how the Steelers tend to punish the Browns in the NFL.
The Indians are in a unique position. Since they are first in MLB’s worst division, they are more or less a lock for the postseason avoiding a possible one-game wildcard playoff. That can’t be said for the Astro’s, Red Sox, or the Yankees.
Detroit Tigers's Latest Performance :
The Detroit Tigers have kicked off the second half of the season in erratic fashion. They managed to shut out the best team in baseball 5-0 in game two only to turn around and get blown out in game three of that series 9-1. In the following series, they dropped game two to the worst team in baseball, the Kansas City Royals. Peaks and valley’s with little to no consistency is probably the best way to describe the Detroit Tigers in their present state.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:
Both teams play in a mediocre division. With that said, given the streakiness of the Detroit Tigers, you never know which team will show up. Cleveland should be worried. The last thing they want to do is give up control of the AL Central to Minnesota and blow their chances of winning out.
Cleveland does have some advantages and pitching is one of them. Granted they’ve had their struggles in the bullpen, by starting Carrasco, they are sending a message that they want to win this series and move on.
