Kansas City Royals's Latest Performance :
The Royals will begin their 10 game road trip against the Yankees in a 4 game set. The Royals are in the last place of the AL Central division with a record of 30-69. They haven’t been great on the road this season picking up only 16 wins away from home. The Royals are coming off a series sweep against the Twins but weren’t able to beat the Tigers in their series opener. Playing against the Yankees on the road will be very challenging series for them considering how well the Yankees play when they are in front of their own crowd. Coming into this series the Royals are the worst team in pitching and batting with a 5.32 ERA and 356 runs scored this season. With the way, Fillmyer controlled the mound in his last outing the future looks bright for the Royals.
Player to watch in this series: Lucas Duda, he is one of the bright spots on the Royals team this season he went 2-for-4 with three RBI in his last outing. He has to play well against the Yankees for the Royals to pull off an upset on the road. He is slashing .250/.316/.410 with 8 homers and 33 RBIs. He tends to perform well against big teams. Unfortunately, the Royals are heading towards rebuilding mode and he might be on the trade block before the trade deadline. It would be a great opportunity for him to showcase his batting skills on the plate to draw interest from other teams in the Majors. This is why it is so important to always give it your best because you never know where you might end up.
- RBIs: Mike Moustakas (59)
- Homers: Mike Moustakas (19)
- Batting Average: Whit Merrifield (.299)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Jake Junis, he made an impressive return to the mound, he allowed one run on four hits over four innings in Saturday’s win over the Twins. He has a 5.13 ERA and 1.29 WHIP as he will take on the Yankees on Thursday.
Game 2: Brad Keller, he struck out eight hitters and allowed three runs over seven-plus innings in a win over the Twins on Sunday. He now owns a 3.20 ERA as he will be on the mound Friday going up against the Yankees.
Game 3: Heath Fillmyer, he allowed two runs one earned over 6 2/3 innings with six strikeouts on Monday in a no-decision against the Tigers. He has a tough matchup coming up on Saturday when he faces the Yankees in New York.
Game 4: Burch Smith, he will close things off for the Royals in the rubber game against the Yankees. He has a 5.98 ERA despite striking out 45 hitters in 43-plus innings.
New York Yankees's Latest Performance :
The Yankees will be back at Yankee Stadium for a 6 game homestand beginning on Thursday. The homestand opens with a four-game series against the Royals. The Yankees are now 6 games behind the Red Sox they haven’t been playing well as of late dropping 4 of their last 7 games. They will have a chance to redeem themselves playing at home against a bad team like the Royals. The Yankees are an extremely hard team to beat at home, they are 34-14 at home this season. The Yankees can’t afford to be nonchalant because it is the little things that are costing them the game. While the Yankees keep dropping games the Red Sox keeps on extending their lead on top of the division. The Yankees are a great team and everyone on the team is well aware but right now the team is lacking effort hopefully they will be able to turn things around in this homestand. Coming into series the Yankees are 4th in batting and pitching with 511 runs scored and a 3.56 ERA respectively.
Player to watch in this series: Giancarlo Stanton, he went 4-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBI and a walk in his last outing. The reigning National League MVP racked up a double, three singles and was also intentionally walked in the contest. He has now reached safely in 17 of his last 18 games dating back to July 1. After a slow start in a Yankees uniform, he is starting to heat up on the plate slashing .285/.353/.521 with 61 runs scored, 23 home runs, 59 RBI and three stolen bases in 430 total plate appearances this season. Look for him to put up big numbers against the Royals at home.
- RBIs: Aaron Judge (61)
- Homers: Aaron Judge (26)
- Batting Average: Miguel Andujar (.289)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Sonny Gray, he is coming off consecutive wins for the first time since August. In those two starts, the righty has allowed just two earned runs on six hits with 14 strikeouts over a combined 11 1/3 innings. He sits at 7-7 with a 5.34 ERA and 1.49 WHIP on the season. He’ll look to carry over this strong start when he does battle against the Royals on Thursday.
Game 2: CC Sabathia, he will be on the mound on Friday instead of Tuesday because of the rain. In his last start, he took a no-decision in his final start before the break, allowing four runs in 5 2/3 innings to the Tribe. He is 6-4 on the year with a 3.51 ERA and 1.27 WHIP.
Game 3: Luis Severino, he gave up a season-high seven runs six earned on 11 hits over five innings in the Yankees’ 7-6 loss to the Rays on Monday. He is now 14-3 on the season with a 2.63 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and a 152/32 K/BB ratio in 133 1/3 innings. He will be looking to bounce back against the Royals.
Game 4: Masahiro Tanaka, he will close things off for the Yankees in the rubber game against the Royals. He is 7-2 on the season with a 4.54 ERA and 1.13 WHIP, 83/22 K/BB ratio in 83 innings through 15 starts

Against The Spread Selection: New York Yankees
My reason for the pick :
The Yankees will be glad to return home as I expect them to play well against the Royals. The Yankees should be able to beat out the Royals easily at home 3-1. The Yankees will learn from their mistakes from previous games and start off their 10 game homestand on the right foot against the Royals. The Yankees want to stay within arm’s length of the Red Sox. The Yankees were once the best team in the Majors and had the best batting lineup. They will have to rediscover their form sooner rather than later, playing against the Royals will definitely boost the team morale. Severino will bounce back in a big way after his last outing. For the Royals, they will have to do a better job at closing out games, a lot of games this season that the team’s bullpen has cost the Royals the baseball game. Moustakas will likely be traded at the trade deadline and once that deal goes through the Royals will start the full rebuilding process and start looking at the future. Moustakas will have a great series against the Yankees he will be able to showcase his talents against a great team like the Yankees because he knows the whole league is keeping an eye on him.
Yankees to beat the Royals 3-1 at home in a 4 game series.
