Los Angeles Dodgers's Latest Performance :
The Dodgers come into this matchup winners of 4 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 3-2. Recently, the Dodgers would win their final series of the first half of the 2018 season by beating the Angels at home in a 3-game set on 7-15-2018. They would follow this up with a 3-game series road win versus the struggling Milwaukee Brewers on 7-22-2018 while rallying against the Phillies on 7-23-2018 to pick up yet another win in the opener of a 3-game road set.
The Dodgers average 4.79 runs per game (8th) with a team batting average of .247 (13th), 136 homers (4th), along with 31 stolen bases (27th). Their pitching staff has an ERA of 3.48 (2nd) with 956 strikeouts (4th) along with 44 quality starts (11th).
Yasmani Grandal (.255 BA on 271 AB) and Cody Bellinger (.242 BA on 359 AB) have been the leaders offensively for the Dodgers this season. Chris Taylor (.258 BA on 364 AB) has also been pivotal to the Dodger’s offensive attack. Matt Kemp (.318 BA on 314 AB) and Manny Machado (.333 BA on 18 AB) have also been huge sparks for the Dodgers offense.
Clayton Kershaw (3-5) has pitched 81.2 innings while allowing 27 runs on 72 hits, 9 homers, 17 walks, and 83 strikeouts with an ERA of 2.64. Alex Wood (6-5) has pitched 111.2 innings while allowing 54 runs on 109 hits, 12 homers, 23 walks, and 98 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.87 has also resurrected his overall performance lately for Los Angeles.
Atlanta Braves 's Latest Performance :
The Braves come into this game winners of 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U is 3-2. Recently, while they would lose a 3-game home set to the Arizona Diamondbacks on 7-15-2018 just before the All-Star break, the Braves would recover soon after as they would tie a 3-game road set versus the Washington Nationals with game to being postponed. This momentum would certainly carry over into their next matchup as they blitzed the Marlins at home in the opener of a 2-game series at Marlins Park on 7-23-2018 by a 12-1 score.
For the season, the Braves are averaging 4.93 runs per game (6th) with a team batting average of .262 (3rd), 105 homers (19th) along with 57 stolen bases (9th). Their pitching staff has an ERA of 3.84 (10th) with 862 strikeouts (13th) along with 42 quality starts on the season (15th).
Freddie Freeman (.316 BA on 377 AB), Nick Markakis (.321 BA on 383 AB), Ryan Flaherty (.238 BA on 143 AB), and Ozzie Albies (.283 BA on 406 AB) have been the offensive stars for the Braves all season. Dansby Swanson (.253 BA on 312 AB) and Ender Inciarte (.249 BA on 378 AB) have also been consistent at the plate for the Braves.
Mike Foltynewicz (7-6, 107.1 IP, 38 R, 80 H, 10 HR, 45 BB, 125 SO, 2.85 ERA) and Sean Newcomb (9-5, 111 IP, 45 R, 86 H, 12 HR, 56 BB, 102 SO, 3.31 ERA) have been bright spots on the mound for the Braves this year. Julio Teheran (7-6, 105.2 IP, 47 R, 77 H, 18 HR, 51 BB, 98 SO, 4.00 ERA has also been serviceable for Atlanta in 2018.
How Los Angeles Dodgers & Atlanta Braves Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
For the season, the Braves are 51-46 ATS while the O/U is 49-44-4. On the other hand, the Dodgers are 45-55 ATS while the O/U is 49-48-3.
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
No pitcher for either team has been assigned for this matchup, however, with each of these teams experiencing troubles at the plate lately, I feel as if the total would be a much better choice to ponder than either the money and/or run line. As stated, both of these teams are in a rut offensively, of sorts, as the Dodgers, despite their 12-5 record in their last 17 games, have only averaged 4.8 runs per game during this time. While 5 runs per game can be decent by MLB standards, their pitching has continued to be solid in allowing opponents a tad less than 3 runs per game in their last 17 contests. In all, the Dodgers have not been blowing out their opponents, but, have simply been obtaining timely hits on offense that leads to scoring opportunities. The Braves, during their 4-13 stretch, have averaged 3.6 runs per game offensively while their pitching has surrendered 65 runs during this time. I foresee a very competitive, low-scoring matchup in this series and, most interestingly, one that will be won at the mound.
Totals Selection: Games 1, 2, 3, & 4: Under
My reason for the prediction :
Again, expect this series to be one that entails a very minimal number of runs being scored. The under has been the play in 4 of the last 7 games for the Braves while it has been the result in 5 of their last 8 home games. On the other hand, the under has been the play in 6 of the last 9 games for the Dodgers while the team is 7-2 with the under being the result in their last 9 road games. Again, the over was the play when these two teams got together earlier in the season in a 3-game set (3-0); However, baseball has much to do with momentum. With that being said, the Dodgers indeed have the momentum going into this set and will certainly attempt to play their game: Solid pitching and timely hits that lead to strategic runs being scored. Expect their pitching staff to perform well against this cold Braves lineup all series as low-scoring, tight affairs will become the norm.
