Houston Astros's Latest Performance :

The Houston Astros have won 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 2-2-1.  Recently, after winning a 3-game set versus the Detroit Tigers at home along with picking up a win in a 3-game road set versus the Los Angeles Angels on 7-22-2018, the Houston Astros would go on to pick up a win in the opener of a 3-game, road interleague set versus the Colorado Rockies by an 8-2 score.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

The pitchers for the Astros have not been named, however, Yovani Gallardo and Cole Hamels will start games 1 & 2 for the Rangers.  Yovani Gallardo (4-1) will get the start in the opener looking to set the tone early on the mound.  In his last outing, Gallardo went 6 innings while allowing no runs on 6 hits in a 5-0 home win versus the Cleveland Indians on 7-22-2018.  In all, the right-hander has been credited with 16 earned runs on 28 hits in his last 5 starts while the over has been 4-1 during this time.  The Rangers are 5-1 in Gallardo’s last 6 starts while Texas has outscored their opponents by a score of 32-14 in Gallardo’s last 4 wins.  He is 2-1 with an ERA of 4.96 with 5 strikeouts in his last 3 starts.

Jose Altuve (.368 BA on 19 AB), Evan Gattis (.385 BA on 13 AB), Yuli Gurriel (.4-5), Josh Reddick (.533 BA on 15 AB), and George Springer (4-16) have success facing Gallardo in the past while Alex Bregman (0-9) and Marwin Gonzalez (.167 BA on 12 AB) have struggled against the right-hander in their careers.

Cole Hamels (5-5) has had a rough go of it lately in losing 3 of his last 4 starts while being credited with 21 earned runs on 28 hits with 3 homers during this time while the over has been the play in 3 of his last 5 starts.  The Rangers are 1-3 in Hamels last 4 appearances on the mound while in his last 3 losses, Texas has only allowed 10 runs of support for Hamels while giving up 32 runs to their opponents.  In his last outing, Hamels went 5 innings while allowing 5 runs on 9 hits, 2 homers, and 5 strikeouts in a 15-3 home loss on 7-23-2018.  In his last outing versus the Astros, the left-hander pitched 7.1 innings while allowing 5 runs on 7 hits, 2 homers, and 5 strikeouts (similar stat line) in a 5-2 home loss on 6-7-2018.  In his last 3 games, Hamels is 1-2 with a high 10.50 ERA with 10 strikeouts.

Alex Bregman (4-16), Evan Gattis (.323 BA on 31 AB), Marwin Gonzalez (.304 BA on 23 AB), and Jose Altuve (.250 BA on 24 AB) have had a bit of success against Hamels in their careers.  Yuli Gurriel (.071 BA on 14 AB), Tony Kemp (0-4), Josh Reddick (.200 BA on 10 AB), George Springer (.174 BA on 23 AB), and Max Stassi (0-2) have had experience, yet, less success against the lefty lifetime.

Totals Selection: Games 1, 2, & 3: Houston Astros

My reason for the prediction :

The Rangers are not playing for much at this point in the season, it seems, as one can see their recent record coming out of the All-Star break (1-4).  This is certainly a sign of things to come in Arlington and a matchup with the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park in Houston may not be what the doctor ordered.  This year alone, the Astros have dominated the Rangers at Globe Life Park (9-1), however, the contests have been a bit more competitive in Houston as they are 3-3 in their last 6 against Texas.  Nonetheless, with their division not being sewed up by any stretch of the imagination, the Astros must continue to win to lock up that top spot in the AL West.  A series such as this should allow them to not only pick up some division wins, but, but to act as a lesson in maintaining focus when facing either top-notch, or, in this case, wholly inferior foes.
