Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Chicago Cubs vs Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pittsburgh Pirates will host the Chicago Cubs at PNC Park for a quick two-game series beginning on Tuesday night. The Pirates trail the Cubs in the NL Central but have gone 8-2 in their last ten and are closing in on the second place Milwaukee Brewers. However, the Cubs have taken two out of the last three series this season and have won their last two.
The Pirates will start right-handed pitcher Jameson Taillon (7-8, 3.73 ERA) in game one against Cubs lefty ace Jon Lester (12-3, 3.06 ERA).
Chicago Cubs's Latest Performance :
The Chicago Cubs are in first place and have been there for quite some time. Milwaukee is definitely knocking on the door at a couple of games back and is poised to challenge the Cubs the rest of the way. The Cubs are 6-4 in their last ten in a tough Central division and have strung a couple of wins together in a current two-game win streak.
Pitching has been a focus as manager Joe Maddon was forced to demote Tyler Chatwood to the bullpen in hopes of getting him back on track. In the interim, Cole Hamels will be making his debut in a Cubs uniform on Wednesday.
Pittsburgh Pirates's Latest Performance :
The Pittsburgh Pirates are are sitting in third place just a game ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals and eight games behind the first-place Chicago Cubs. They have been playing solid baseball the past few weeks and it took a 4-0 shutout to end Pittsburgh’s eleven game win streak heading into and coming out of the All=Star break.
On Saturday, they lost outfielder Corey Dickerson who was placed on the DL for the next ten days after suffering a hamstring injury, but that shouldn’t slow them down too much heading into the Cubs series.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:
These two teams always match-up well. Division rivals usually do no matter the record. The Cubs are up two series to one this season but went down 7-1 in their last meeting. Chicago has made some moves as of late to improve their pitching and maintain their first-place status in the Central while Pittsburgh has just been out there winning games. If Pittsburgh can go on another eleven game win streak, they’ll force the division to take notice if they haven’t already.
