Cincinnati Reds vs Washington Nationals

The Cincinnati Reds visit the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park on Tuesday night to begin a four-game series. The two teams met for the first time in their season opener, also a four-game series, that saw Washington get shut out after game one was postponed due to bad weather.

On the mound in game one for these two teams is Washington right-handed star Max Scherzer (14-5, 2.30 ERA) taking on fellow right-hander Tyler Mahle (7-8, 4.53 ERA).

Cincinnati Reds's Latest Performance :

The Cincinnati Reds are another bottom of the barrel team who are well out of the playoff race. Rebuild seems to be the operative word for the majority of MLB teams this season and the Reds are definitely one of them. One would think they would be trading everyone on their team for top prospects, but Matt Harvey, the only guy on the trade block since they acquired him, probably isn’t going anywhere.

Washington Nationals's Latest Performance :

The Washington Nationals have been playing .500 ball since the beginning of July and sit six games back behind the first-place Philadelphia Phillies. Sandwiched between them is a stubborn Atlanta Braves team who just won’t relinquish second place. The Nationals can’t seem to gain any ground. They have gone 5-5 in their last ten and dropped their last two. To top it off, they haven’t a clue what to do before the trade deadline hits to help their team with all fingers pointing to rookie manager Dave Martinez.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

The Washington Nationals are a mediocre team and the Cincinnati Reds are a bad team. Does that make for a poor match-up? Not necessarily. No team likes to get their butts kicked and swept nonetheless to start their season. The Cincinnati Reds have not forgotten about that initial match-up since it occurred way back in March and will look for a little revenge coming into this series. They may have fallen below the radar, but revenge is sweet when least expected.
