Baltimore Orioles's Latest Performance :
The Orioles are currently on a 9 game road trip as they get ready to take on the Rangers in a four-game set. The Orioles have the worst record in the Majors they are 32-74 on the season and the worst road record they are 12-39 when playing on the road. Coming into this series the O’s are 27th in pitching with a 4.82 ERA and 27th in batting with 407 runs scored this season in their last 3 games they were able to score 37 runs. It is clear that the O’s want to rebuild the team from scratch by trading away their star player Manny Machado to the Dodgers. They will have to do their best with what they have and figure out a way to end the season strong.
Player to watch in this series: Jonathan Schoop, he was named the player of the week. Schoop has been on a tear offensively ever since the O’s traded Manny. He has homered for the fifth consecutive game. He is raised his season slash from .197/.242/.345 to .245/.275/.445 in a matter of 21 games. He now has 16 homers and 37 RBI on the season. It could be a possibility that he gets traded on the trade deadline since he is making teams turn their heads around after catching fire in July.
- RBIs: Adam Jones (44)
- Homers: Jonathan Schoop (17)
- Batting Average: Adam Jones (.285)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Andrew Cashner, he allowed two runs on five hits over six strong innings, in his last start against the Rays on Friday. He has a 4.33 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and 85/47 K/BB ratio. He will start on Thursday against the Rangers.
Game 2: Kevin Gausman, he held the Rays to two runs in seven innings and was credited with a win on Saturday. He is 5-8 on the season with a 4.43 ERA in 21 starts. He will take on the Rangers on Friday.
Game 3: Dylan Bundy, he gave up three solo homers but didn’t allow any other runs as the Orioles took down the Rays 11-5 on Sunday. He leads the league in homers allowed at 26 this season. He is 7-9 on the year with a 4.53 ERA and 1.26 WHIP.
Game 4: Yefry Ramirez, he will close things out for the Orioles in the rubber game against the Rangers on Sunday. He is 1-3 on the year with a 3.49 ERA and 1.16 WHIP.
Texas Rangers's Latest Performance :
The Rangers will be back at Globe Life Park for a 7 game homestand beginning on Thursday. The homestand opens with a four-game series against the Orioles. The Rangers are currently on a 4 game winning streak they were able to pull off one of the biggest upset of the season by sweeping the Astros on the road. During the win streak, the Rangers offense has been on fire scoring 31 runs. It is a good sign for the Rangers since they are building the team for the future. Coming into this series the Rangers are 12th in batting with 486 runs scored this season and 28th in pitching with a 4.85 ERA.
Player to watch in this series: Shin-Soo Choo went 2-for-5 with a pair of opposite-field home runs and four RBI. He snapped a 0-for-13 slump with a three-run homer off D-backs starter Robbie Ray that put the Rangers ahead in the fifth inning. He is hitting .177 (8-for-45) since the All-Star break. On the season as a whole, he is slashing .280/.392/.491 with 20 home runs, 61 runs scored, 51 RBI and three steals in 468 plate appearances. I expect him to play well against the Orioles at home. He will be a great mentor for younger players that will join the team in the future.
- RBIs: Joey Gallo (59)
- Homers: Joey Gallo (26)
- Batting Average: Shin-Soo Choo (.280)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Yovani Gallardo, he held the Astros scoreless over 5 2/3 innings. He is 7-5 on the season with a 6.26 ERA and 1.56 WHIP. He will be making his start on Thursday against the Orioles.
Game 2: Ariel Jurado, he allowed one run on two hits over six innings in Saturday’s win over the Astros. He is 1-1 on the year and is working on a 4.22 ERA and 1.22 WHIP.
Game 3: Mike Minor, he went six innings and allowed just two runs while striking out eight in a victory over the Astros on Sunday. He has a 4.73 ERA and 1.20 WHIP. His next start is on Saturday against the Orioles.
Game 4: Martin Perez, he allowed four runs one earned on six hits over five innings of work in a no-decision against the D-backs on Monday. He is 2-4 with a 6.50 ERA in nine starts. He will face the Orioles at home on Sunday in his next outing.
How Baltimore Orioles & Texas Rangers Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Rangers are 7-16 in their last 23 overall.
Orioles are 17-35 in their last 52 games following a win.
Against The Spread Selection: Series split at 2-2
My reason for the pick :
Both teams are playing really well as of late. The O’s are on a three-game winning streak the Rangers are riding a four-game win streak. Both teams are out of the playoff picture and have started their rebuilding process. It is fair that the four-game series will end in a 2-2 split. This will be a great opportunity for younger players to showcase their talent. Schoop could be gone after the trade deadline that means the next player in the O’s rotation will have to perform. Choo will heat up from the plate as he will be able to carry over his momentum from the previous series. The first two games should go to the O’s and the Rangers will capture game 3 and 4.
The Rangers and the Orioles split the series at 2-2.
