The Phillies will welcome the Marlins to Citizens Bank Park as the two teams from the NL East division will go head to head in a four-game series starting on Thursday. The Phillies are leading the division while the Marlins are in the last place. This will be their 4th meeting of the season the Marlins have a 2-1 season series lead over the Phillies.
Game 1-3: 7:05 PM ET
Game 4: 1:35 PM ET
Miami Marlins's Latest Performance :
The Marlins will cap off their NL East division 7 game road trip against the Phillies. The Marlins are 20-31 when playing on the road this season. It hasn’t been a great season for the Marlins fans although they have shown glimpses that they can become a great team in the future but there is still plenty of work to do. It will be a challenge for the Marlins playing the Phillies on the road because the Phillies are very hard to beat at home and with the Braves right behind them in the standings you expect the Phillies to bring their A game. Coming into this series the Marlins are 26th in pitching with a 4.77 ERA and 26th in batting with 413 runs scored this season. The Marlins is expected to be active on the Trade deadline as they want to start the rebuilding process sooner rather than later.
Player to watch in this series: J.T. Realmuto, he is one of the players that will remain a Marlins after the trade deadline. He went 1-for-5 with an RBI double. He has 24 double on the season he has been one of the bright spots in the Marlins batting rotation this season. He is slashing .309/.359/.529 with 13 home runs and 52 RBI in 79 games. It is sometimes hard to trade a player that is playing well on a bad team because the asking price of the Marlins might be too high and no one wants to match it.
- RBIs: J.T. Realmuto (52)
- Homers: Justin Bour (16)
- Batting Average: J.T. Realmuto (.309)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Trevor Richards, he tossed six innings of three-hit shutout ball while taking a no-decision in Saturday’s 10-inning win over the Nationals. He will bring his 4.06 ERA and 1.41 WHIP (75 1/3 innings) to the mound in a start against the Phillies on Thursday.
Game 2: Jose Urena, he gave up just one hit and struck out five over six scoreless innings in a 5-0 win over the Nationals on Sunday. Despite his great performance in his last start, he is still 3-10 on the season with a 4.40 ERA and 1.23 WHIP.
Game 3: Wei-Yin Chen, he gave up five runs on five hits over five innings in Monday’s loss to the Braves. He hasn’t been great pitching on the road this year he has a 10.27 ERA in nine road starts.
Game 4: Dan Straily, he will close things out for the Marlins against the Phillies in the rubber game. He is 4-4 with a 4.07 ERA and 1.32 WHIP.
Philadelphia Phillies's Latest Performance :
The Phillies will be back at Citizens Bank Park for a brief 4 game homestand against the Marlins. The Phillies will be glad to return home as they are now on a four-game losing streak. Playing against the Marlins at home will turn things around for them. The Phillies have one of the best homes records in the Majors they are 34-18 when playing at home. They are trying to make the postseason since 2011, the Phillies still hold a half a game lead over the Braves. Coming into this series the Phillies are 19th in scoring with 465 runs scored this season and 9th in pitching with a 3.85 ERA.
Player to watch in this series: Rhys Hoskins went 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a walk. He has 26 doubles on the season. He has collected at least one hit in nine of his last 10 games as he continues to pad out a strong season in which he’s slashed .262/.370/.513 with 21 home runs and 70 RBI across 355 at-bats. I expect him to start off strong at home against the Marlins. He plays much better at home than on the road he has hit seven homers in his last eight games at home.
- RBIs: Rhys Hoskins (70)
- Homers: Rhys Hoskins (21)
- Batting Average: Odubel Herrera (.278)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Vince Velasquez, he allowed two runs in five innings and took a no-decision against the Reds on Saturday. He is 7-8 with a 4.02 ERA and 1.24 WHIP through 20 starts. He makes his return to the mound on Thursday against the Marlins.
Game 2: Nick Pivetta, he had 12 strikeouts over six innings against the Reds on Friday, but wound up on the losing end of the decision after allowing five runs on six hits and a pair of walks. He is 6-9 on the season with a 4.85 ERA and 1.33 WHIP.
Game 3: Zach Eflin, he allowed four runs over 5 1/3 innings on Sunday in a loss to the Reds. He owns a 3.64 ERA with a 72/18 K/BB ratio in 76 2/3 innings. He is scheduled to start Saturday against the Marlins.
Game 4: Aaron Nola, he allowed just one run on five hits over eight innings while taking a no-decision in Monday’s 13-inning loss to the Red Sox. He has a 2.35 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 142/38 K/BB ratio (142 innings). He will make his return to the mound Sunday against the Marlins.
How Miami Marlins & Philadelphia Phillies Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Phillies are 5-5 in their last 10 overall.
Marlins are 6-1 in their last 7 vs. a team with a winning record.
Against The Spread Selection: Philadelphia Phillies
My reason for the pick :
The Phillies will be able to return to their winning ways as they will sweep the Marlins at home 4-0. I expect the Marlins to clean the house and be very active on the trade deadline. With the new look Marlins, it will take time for them to develop team chemistry. The Phillies will use this to their advantage as they can’t afford to drop any more games with the Braves looking to take over the division at any moment. There is too much at stake for the Phillies they can’t afford to lose to the last place Marlins as I expect the Phillies to tighten up the screws and sweep the Marlins at home.
Betting trends for Miami Marlins:
- Marlins are 20-42 in their last 62 road games vs. a team with a winning record.
Betting trends for Philadelphia Phillies:
- Phillies are 34-18 when playing at home this season.
