Detroit Tigers's Latest Performance :
The Tigers will begin their six-game road trip against the A’s in a three-game set. They have one of the worst road records in the Majors they are 18-35 when playing on the road. It is starting to look like a lost season for the Tigers they are now 13 games back of the leader Indians and it would be very challenging for them to turn their season around this late into the season. Playing against the A’s on the road will be a tough task ahead for the Tigers considering how well the A’s are playing at the moment. Coming into this series the Tigers are 26th in batting with 417 runs scored this season their inability to put runs on the board really ruined their season. They are 19th in pitching with a 4.39 ERA.
Player to watch in this series: Niko Goodrum, he struck a solo home run on Tuesday, powering the Tigers to a 2-1 victory over the Reds. He blasted his solo shot off of Reds’ starter Homer Bailey in the fourth inning. He finished the night 1-for-3, raising his season slash to .241/.308/.443 to go along with 10 homers and 34 RBI. It hasn’t been a great month Goodrum lets hope he can find his confidence on the plate in August.
- RBIs: Nicholas Castellanos (58)
- Homers: Nicholas Castellanos (15)
- Batting Average: Nicholas Castellanos (.290)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Francisco Liriano, he will be making his return to the mound after recovering from his illness. He has a 4.62 ERA and 70/49 K/BB ratio over 85 2/3 innings this season.
Game 2: Jordan Zimmermann, he allowed five runs in just three innings in a loss to the Indians on Sunday. He has a 4.44 with a 1.21 WHIP over 71 innings. He starts on the mound on Saturday.
Game 3: Matt Boyd, he racked up seven strikeouts over eight shutout frames in a victory against the Reds. He’ll carry a 4.22 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 107/39 K/BB ratio into Sunday’s start against the Athletics in Oakland
Oakland Athletics's Latest Performance :
The A’s are currently on an eight-game homestand as they get ready to take on the Tigers in a three-game set. They are coming off a dominant series win over the Blue Jays. The A’s have definitely pick things up going 29-10 since June 16, tops in the Majors in that span. The A’s are 28-22 when playing at home this season. The A’s have won seven of their last 10 games they now are only one game behind the Mariners for the Wild Card spot. Coming into this series the A’s are 16th in pitching with a 3.97 ERA and 6th in batting with 521 runs scored this season. If the A’s are able to keep up this level of output they could cause some serious trouble in the AL West division. With a young team, they have to narrow their focus. Be aware of the standings but not be driven by the standings.
Player to watch in this series: Khris Davis, he went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, two RBI and a run scored. He has been on a tear hitting .300 (15-for-50) with eight home runs and 20 RBI in 12 games since the All-Star break. Davis is up to 84 RBI on the year that is the second most in the American Leauge. He is doing all he can to push the A’s into the playoffs. As a whole, he is slashing .255/.329/.545. I expect him to play well at home against the Tigers.
- RBIs: Khris Davis (84)
- Homers: Khris Davis (29)
- Batting Average: Jed Lowrie (.274)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Brett Anderson, he allowed four runs on eight hits over six innings in Saturday’s loss to the Rockies. He will carry a 5.55 ERA and 1.68 WHIP (35 2/3 innings) into a home showdown with the Tigers on Friday.
Game 2: Frankie Montas, he allowed three runs on eight hits over 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Rockies on Sunday. He’s 5-3 with a 3.75 ERA and a 39/19 K/BB ratio in 10 big-league starts this season. He will take on the Tigers at home in his next start on Saturday.
Game 3: Edwin Jackson, he tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings and picked up his second win of the year in the Athletics 10-1 victory over the Blue Jays on Monday. He’s now 2-2 with a shiny 3.32 ERA and a 32/13 K/BB ratio over 40 2/3 innings.
How Detroit Tigers & Oakland Athletics Matchup.

Athletics are 29-10 in their last 39 overall.
Tigers are 38-81 in their last 119 games vs. a right-handed starter.
Against The Spread Selection: Oakland Athletics
My reason for the pick :
The A’s will sweep the Tigers at home 3-0 the A’s will use this opportunity to cut into the gap and potentially take the second spot in the AL West division away from the Mariners. The A’s are firing on all cylinders it will be hard for the Tigers to slow them down and considering how bad the Tigers have been on the road this season I don’t see them taking a game from the A’s on the road. The A’s confidence is at an all-time high because they will have a chance of making the postseason if they are able to maintain this level of play. Davis will lead the way for the A’s as they will win their second consecutive series at home.
The A’s to sweep the Tigers at home 3-0.
