Houston Astros's Latest Performance :

The Astros are currently on an eight-game road trip as they will get ready to take on the Dodgers in a 3 game set. The Astros are coming off a hard-fought battle against their rivals Mariners that they came up on top after losing the series opener they have now won 2 straight after dropping 5 games in a row. The Astros are the best road team in the Majors they are 36-17 when playing on the road this season. Coming into this series the Astros are 4th in batting with 533 runs scored this season and the best team in pitching with a 3.09 ERA.

Player to watch in this series: Evan Gattis, he went  2-for-5 with a two-run home run in the Astros’ win over the Mariners. The Astros will need Gattis to be on his A-game he will be the spark plug to the Astros offense once he gets going on the plate everyone on the team tends to play well. He hasn’t been great after the break hitting just .222 (16-for-72) in 20 games since July 1st. Great players tend to have the tendency show up in big games. He will be a factor in the series against the Dodgers on the road.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Alex Bregman (71)
  • Homers: Alex Bregman (22)
  • Batting Average: Jose Altuve (.329)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Justin Verlander, he gave up two runs on nine hits over five innings in Saturday’s 7-3 loss to the Rangers. He has a 2.24 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 190/27 K/BB ratio (148 2/3 innings). He will start in the series opener against the Dodgers.

Game 2: Lance McCullers, he allowed four runs over 5 1/3 innings while striking out 11 in a loss to the Rangers on Sunday. He is 10-6 on the season with a 4.06 ERA and 1.20 WHIP. He will be on the mound Saturday against the Dodgers.

Game 3: Gerrit Cole, he gave up two runs on four hits over 6 2/3 innings in a 2-0 loss against the Mariners on Monday. He is 10-3 with a 2.55 ERA and a 194/48 K/BB ratio over 22 starts. He will take on the Dodgers in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Los Angeles Dodgers's Latest Performance :

The Dodgers have started their seven-game homestand on the wrong foot losing 2 straight against the Brewers, as a result, they dropped to third place in the NL West division. They will have a chance to redeem themselves against the defending World Series Champs the Astros in a three-game set. They are 28-26 when playing at home this season. Coming into this series the Dodgers are 3rd in pitching with a 3.49 ERA and 7th in batting with 506 runs scored this season. The Manny Machado experiment hasn’t quite panned out the way the Dodgers wanted to. No need to panic for the Dodgers because they have been put in this position before and they have the players that can reclaim the top spot again.

Player to watch in this series: Brian Dozier, he was recently acquired from the Twins and is expected to have an immediate impact against the World Series Champs the Astros. He is hitting .224/.305/.402 this season and he has tallied 16 home runs and 52 RBI in 104 games. He will thrive under his new expect his numbers to be much better down the stretch as he looks to help the Dodgers repeat as National League champions.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Matt Kemp (64)
  • Homers: Max Muncy and Manny Machado have 24
  • Batting Average: Manny Machado (.315)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Alex Wood, he is coming off a terrific performance on the mound he pitched 5 2/3 innings of one-hit shutout ball in Saturday’s win over the Braves. He will start against the Astros in the series opener.

Game 2: Ross Stripling, he allowed four earned runs on seven hits over four innings in a loss against the Braves on Sunday. He is 8-3 on the season with a 2.68 ERA and 119/15 K/BB ratio in 114 innings over 16 starts. He will look to rebound in his next outing against the Astros on Saturday.

Game 3: Kenta Maeda, he allowed four earned runs over just 4 2/3 innings Monday in a loss to the Brewers.  It was the first loss for Maeda since June. He holds a solid 3.48 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 119/35 K/BB ratio in 98 1/3 innings this season. He returns to the mound on Sunday against the Astros.

How Houston Astros & Los Angeles Dodgers Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Dodgers are 6-0 in their last 6 when their opponent allows 2 runs or less in their previous game.

Astros are 20-8 in their last 28 road games vs. a right-handed starter.

Against The Spread Selection: Houston Astros

My reason for the pick :

The Astros will be able to come into Dodger stadium and beat out the Dodgers 2-1 on the road. The Astros will remind us how important it is to have elite pitchers on the team. They have the ability to take control of a game singlehandedly. I expect all three games to go down to the wire. When two great teams play against each other the game will always be decided by pitching. The Astros will have the advantage if the game isn’t decided in the earlier innings so I expect the Dodgers to look for ways to score early before the Astros pitchers get comfortable on the mound. Dozier will have a great opportunity to make a great first impression. It will be a challenge for the Dodgers to crack Verlander and Cole pitches.

The Astros will be able to repeat what happened in the World Series and beat out the Dodgers on the road 2-1.

Betting trends for Houston Astros:

  • Astros are 36-17 in their last 53 road games.

Betting trends for Los Angeles Dodgers:

  • Dodgers are 6-2 in their last 8 home games.
