Oakland Athletics vs Los Angeles Angels

The Angels will welcome the Athletics to Angel Stadium as the two teams from the AL West division will go head to head in a three-game set starting on Friday. The Angels are fourth in the division while the A’s are in second. This will be their fourth meeting of the season the Angels have a 2-1 season series lead over the A’s.

Game 1: 10:07 PM ET

Game 2: 9:07 PM ET

Game 3: 4:07 PM ET

Oakland Athletics's Latest Performance :

The A’s will hit the road for three games as they will be playing against the Angels. The A’s got their six-game win streak snapped by the Dodgers. The A’s are in second place of the Wild Card standings they are two games ahead of the Mariners. The A’s are 35-24 when playing on the road this season. Coming into this series the A’s are 11th in pitching with a 3.84 ERA and 8th in batting with 540 runs scored this season. The A’s have been the hottest team in the Major after the All-Star break they will be looking to get back on the win column against the Angels on the road.

Player to watch in this series: Khris Davis, he went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in his last performance. He was the only player who was able to put up runs on the board for the A’s. He is hitting an impressive .290 (20-for-69) with 11 home runs and 24 RBI in 17 games since the All-Star break. He has 32 homers on the year to go along with 88 RBIs. He should cause problems against the Angels pitchers.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Khris Davis (88)
  • Homers: Khris Davis (32)
  • Batting Average: Matt Chapman (.270)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Brett Anderson, he shut out the Tigers for seven innings in a no-decision Friday. He has a 2.96 ERA in his last five starts. He will return to the mound in the series opener against the Angels.

Game 2: Edwin Jackson, he allowed just one unearned run in 6 1/3 innings in a victory over the Tigers on Saturday. He will carry a 2.87 ERA and 1.06 WHIP into his start on Saturday.

Game 3: Trevor Cahill, he pitched 10 strikeouts and fired six shutout innings in the Athletics win over the Tigers on Sunday. He has a 3-0 record with a 3.76 ERA and 28/12 K/BB ratio in five starts since coming off the disabled list on July 12.  He will close things out for the A’s in the rubber game on Sunday.

Los Angeles Angels's Latest Performance :

The Angels will cap off their six-game homestand against the A’s in a three-game set. They are 31-28 when playing at home this season. The Angels will be eyeing a perfect homestand as they are on the verge of sweeping the Tigers at home. The chances of the Angels making the postseason is very slim as they are 10 1/2 back of the Wild Card standings however they are on a 3 game win streak with Mike Trout out of the lineup for the sixth straight game. They will try to keep their win streak alive when playing against the red-hot A’s.

Player to watch in this series: Shohei Ohtani, he has been heating up from the plate for the Angels lately as he struck a three-run homer and a stolen base in the Angels’ win over the Tigers on Tuesday. It was his 12th homer of the year. He also stole his fifth base of the season in the second inning. His potential has yet to tap. I believe he has plenty of tricks up his sleeves he is paving his way to becoming a great player in many years to come. He is hitting .250 (21-for-84) with six home runs and four steals in 28 games since returning to the Angels lineup on July 3. I expect him to have a good series against the A’s.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Justin Upton (63)
  • Homers: Mike Trout (30)
  • Batting Average: Mike Trout (.309)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Felix Pena, he allowed two runs in 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Indians on Saturday. He is 1-3 on the season in eight starts. He will carry 4.97 ERA and 1.47 WHIP into the series opener against the A’s on Friday.

Game 2: Taylor Cole, he will be starting on the mound in place of Skaggs. He has 2.25 ERA and 13/4 K/BB ratio over 12 innings. He will face a tough matchup against the A’s on Saturday.

Game 3: Nick Tropeano, he will return to the mound after dealing with a shoulder injury to close things out for the Angels in the rubber game against the A’s on Sunday. He is 5-6 on the season with a 4.74 ERA and 1.30 WHIP.

How Oakland Athletics & Los Angeles Angels Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Angels are 4-1 in their last 5 home games vs. a right-handed starter.

Athletics are 4-0 in their last 4 after allowing 2 runs or less in their previous game.

Against The Spread Selection: Oakland Athletics

My reason for the pick :

The A’s will get back into the win column as they will sweep the Angels on the road 3-0. The A’s will prove to be too much for the Angels to handle. The A’s can’t afford to drop any more games if they want to make the postseason. The A’s bullpen is one of the best in the league so expect them to come through against the Angels in this brief road trip. Davis will continue to do his thing on the plate for the A’s as for the Angels Ohtani can’t be the only player carrying the offensive load this where the Angels will miss Trout offense. As the season progresses the A’s are starting to look like a legit contender that can make a deep run into the postseason.

The A’s to sweep the Angels on the road 3-0.

Betting trends for Oakland Athletics:

  • Athletics are 36-15 in their last 51 overall.

Betting trends for Los Angeles Angels:

  • Angels are 2-6 in their last 8 overall.
