The Pirates will cap off their seven-game road trip against the Giants in a four-game set. The Pirates are now on a 3 game losing streak after winning eleven straight games. The Pirates are 5 1/2 games back of the Wild Card spot. Coming into this series the Pirates are 18th in pitching with a 4.21 ERA and 16th in batting with 503 runs scored this season. The offense during the three-game losing streak hasn’t been great they were able to put up only five runs. The Pirates haven’t been great on the road this season they are 24-27 when playing on the road.

Player to watch in this series: Gregory Polanco, the Pirates will need him to bring his A-game with him when the Pirates plays the Giants. Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 2: Trevor Williams, he allowed two runs over five innings Sunday in a loss to the Cardinals. He is 9-8 on the year with a 3.88 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and 80/40 K/BB ratio in 22 starts. He will be on the mound Friday.

San Francisco Giants's Latest Performance :

The Giants will cap off their six-game homestand going up against the Pirates in a four-game set. The Giants are fourth in the NL West standings. They have one of the better home records in the NL West they are 32-23 when playing at home. The Giants are 46-3 this season in games leading after the eight innings. Coming into this series the Giants are 23rd in scoring with 458 runs scored this season and 16th in pitching with a 3.96 ERA. It is unfortunate for the Giants who have started the season off very well have to be in this position late into the season. They looked really promising at the start of the year but right now not so much. If the Giants are able to end the season with a winning record that would be a success after how much money they spent last season.

Player to watch in this series: Brandon Crawford, he went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in the Giants’ 3-1 loss to the Astros on Monday. He is hitting .279 with 47 runs scored, 11 home runs, 45 RBI and three stolen bases over 438 plate appearances this season. The Giants will need him to heat up from the plate. He will have a great opportunity to put up big numbers against the Pirates at home. It is just a matter of time he will start to play well and finish the season strong.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Andrew McCutchen (46)
  • Homers: Brandon Belt (14)
  • Batting Average: Buster Posey (.294)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Ty Blach, he will be making his return on the mound to start in the series opener after the Giants sent Chris Stratton to the Triple A. He is 6-6 on the season with a 4.28 ERA and 1.53 WHIP.

Game 2: Andrew Suarez, he allowed eight runs in five innings in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Saturday. He has a 4.60 ERA in 19 starts this season. He will make his start against the Pirates on Friday.

Game 3: Derek Holland, he allowed two runs on three hits over 5 1/3 innings against the Diamondbacks in his last outing. He has a 3.88 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 120/43 K/BB ratio across 118 1/3 innings. He returns to the mound on Saturday.

Game 4: Derek Rodriguez, the rookie was impressive in his last start he struck out seven batters and scattered three hits over seven shutout innings in a no-decision against the Astros on Monday. In 11 starts he has racked up  61 strikeouts with only 18 walks over 73 innings. He returns to the mound on Sunday to close things out against the Pirates.

How Pittsburgh Pirates & San Francisco Giants Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Giants are 1-5 in their last 6 home games.

Pirates are 19-39 in their last 58 vs. National League West.

Against The Spread Selection: Series split at 2-2

My reason for the pick :

The two teams are equally matched so it is fair that the series will end up in a 2-2 split. The Pirates will win the first two games while the Giants will come back strong with Holland and Rodriguez controlling the mound. It is tough for both teams at this point of the year to make any type of impact and the reason for this is these are two mid-tier teams that haven’t got enough star power to pull off a late run. The Pirates are 5 1/2 back and the Giants are six games back for the Wild Card spot.

The Giants and the Pirates split the series at 2-2.

Betting trends for Pittsburgh Pirates:

  • Pirates are 5-1 in their last 6 road games.

Betting trends for San Francisco Giants:

  • Giants are 16-5 in their last 21 home games vs. a right-handed starter.
