Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Texas Rangers vs New York Yankees

The Yankees will welcome the Rangers to Yankee Stadium as the two team will go head to head in a four-game series starting on Thursday. The Yankees are second in the AL East division while the Rangers are in the last place of the AL West. This will be their first meeting of the season.

Game 1-2: 7:05 PM ET

Game 3-4: 1:05 PM ET

Texas Rangers's Latest Performance :

The Rangers will hit the road as they will face the Yankees in a four-game set. The Rangers are in the last place of the AL West division. The Rangers have lost two straight but have won seven of its last ten game.  They are 26-29 when playing on the road this season. It will be a challenge for the Rangers to play against the Yankees on the road considering how well the Yankees have been playing at home. The Rangers will have to do all they can to keep the series competitive because I expect the Yankees to come out of the gate firing since it is their first series back home after being swept by the Red Sox. Coming into this series the Rangers are 8th best in batting and 27th in pitching with a 4.83 ERA.

Player to watch in this series: Joey Gallo, he leads the team in RBIs and homer he will have to be the go-to guy for the Rangers since the Choo is struggling on the plate. There is not much offense happening for the Rangers this season he is slashing a forgettable .192/.307/.472 on the year, but those 29 homers rank him fifth in the American League. He has to be at his best playing against a good team such as the Yankees on the road.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Joey Gallo (67)
  • Homers: Joey Gallo (29)
  • Batting Average: Shin Soo-Choo (.272)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Mike Minor, he struck out six while allowing a lone run over seven innings Saturday in a win over the Orioles. He is 8-6 with a 4.53 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 21 starts. He will return to the mound against the Yankees on Thursday.

Game 2: Martin Perez, he allowed four runs (one earned) on six hits over five innings of work in a no-decision in his last outing. He is 2-4 with a 6.50 ERA in nine starts. He will be back in action against the Yankees on Friday.

Game 3: Bartolo Colon, he will make his return to the mound on Saturday after being shutout by the D-Backs in his last start. He is 5-10 with a 5.18 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 71/22 K/BB ratio in 20 starts.

Game 4: Yovani Gallardo, he will close things out for the Rangers in the rubber game against the Yankees. He is 6-1 on the season with a 6.51 ERA and 1.62 WHIP.

New York Yankees's Latest Performance :

The Yankees will be back at Yankee Stadium for an eleven-game homestand beginning on Thursday. The homestand opens with a four-game series against the Rangers. The Yankees are 38-16 when playing at home. After getting swept by the Red Sox on the road the Yankees responded in a big way by shutting out the White Sox on the road in the series opener ending their five-game skid. The Yankees still have a 3 game lead over the A’s in the Wild Card standings. After dropping four-game straight the Yankees will be looking to create a winning streak during the homestand.

Player to watch in this series: Neil Walker, he went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Monday’s win over the White Sox. He is hitting .433 with a double, a homer and six RBIs over his last 11 games. He has been a pleasant surprise for the Yankees offense. I expect him to continue to put up consistent numbers for the Yankees to close out the season. He is slashing .277/.305/.323 on the season.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Giancarlo Stanton (67)
  • Homers: Aaron Judge (26)
  • Batting Average: Miguel Andujar (.288)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: J.A. Happ, he will make his first start for the Yankees on Thursday against the Rangers in the series opener. He is 11-6 on the year with a 4.05 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 132/36 K/BB ratio. He will play a huge role for the Yankees as they close out the season.

Game 2: Masahiro Tanaka, he was superb in a no-decision against the Red Sox on Sunday, racking up nine strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings of one-run baseball. He has a 3.76 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 109/26 K/BB ratio across 103 innings. He will start on Friday against the Rangers.

Game 3: Lance Lynn, in his first start with the Yankees on Monday he tossed 7 2/3 scoreless innings against the White Sox as part of a 7-0 victory. He will make his second start for the Yankees since being traded from the Twins. He is 8-8 on the season with a 4.58 ERA and 1.54 WHIP.

Game 4: CC Sabathia, he will close things out for the Yankees in the rubber game against the Rangers. He is 6-4 on the season with a 3.59 ERA and 1.32 WHIP.

How Texas Rangers & New York Yankees Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Yankees are 5-2 in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400.

Rangers are 7-19 in their last 26 vs. a team with a winning record.

Against The Spread Selection: New York Yankees

My reason for the pick :

The Yankees will carry on the momentum from the previous series against the White Sox onto the series against the Rangers. The Yankees will sweep the Rangers at home 4-0 the Yankees can’t afford to have a five-game skid late into the season with the A’s trailing by only three games for the top spot of the NL Wild Card. For the Rangers, at this point of the season, the Rangers are emphasizing on mindsets rather than the outcome of the game. The management had made it clear that they are rebuilding the team and the players have embraced the role that they are building something for the future.

The Yankees to sweep the Rangers at home 4-0.

Betting trends for Texas Rangers:

  • Rangers are 5-2 in their last 7 games vs. a right-handed starter.

Betting trends for New York Yankees:

  • Yankees are 41-14 in their last 55 after allowing 5 runs or more in their previous game.
