Washington Nationals vs Chicago Cubs

The Cubs will welcome the Nationals to Wrigley Field as both teams will go head to head in a three-game series starting on Friday. The Cubs are leading the NL Central division while the Nationals are in third in the NL East. This will be their first meeting of the season.

Game 1: 2:20 PM ET

Game 2: 4:05 PM ET

Game 3: 8:08 PM ET

Washington Nationals's Latest Performance :

The Nationals will begin their seven-game road trip against the Cubs in a three-game set. The National are 29-28 when playing on the road this season. The Nationals are 4 1/2 back of the Wild Card spot. Coming into this series the Nationals are 8th in pitching with a 3.80 ERA and 13th in scoring with 518 runs scored this season. Each game for the Nationals has become even more important, as they aim to climb back into playoffs contention.

Player to watch in this series: Juan Soto, he was the batter who was able to put up runs on the board as he struck a solo home run. He has now clubbed six of his 14 home runs against left-handed pitching and is batting .387 off southpaws. He is capable to heat up on the plate in a hurry, he might be the missing ingredient that the Nationals are missing to make the postseason. I expect him to have a good series against the Cubs.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Bryce Harper (70)
  • Homers: Bryce Harper (27)
  • Batting Average: Anthony Rendon (.284)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Jeremy Hellickson, he gave up two runs in 5 2/3 innings and earned a win over the Reds on Saturday in game two of a doubleheader. He is 5-2 with a 3.56 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 16 starts. He will face the Cubs on the road coming up on Friday.

Game 2: Tanner Roark, he held the Reds to one run over seven innings in a victory Sunday. He is 6-12 on the season with a 4.21 ERA and 1.28 WHIP he will return on the mound Saturday.

Game 3: Max Scherzer, he allowed just one run over seven frames but settled for a no-decision Tuesday in the Nationals’ loss to the Braves. He will try to create another winning streak as he will take the mound on Sunday against the Cubs.

Chicago Cubs's Latest Performance :

The Cubs will be back at Wrigley Field for a seven-game homestand beginning on Friday. The homestand opens with a three-game series against the Nationals. The Cubs are leading the NL Central division they have a 2 1/2 game lead over the Brewers. The Cubs are 35-21 when playing at home this season. They are on the verge of sweeping the Royals. Coming into this series the Cubs are 5th best in batting with 565 runs scored this season and 7th in pitching with a 3.76 ERA.

Player to watch in this series: David Bote, he had a two-run triple, an RBI single and a walk against the Royals on Tuesday. He has been terrific in limited action, hitting .344 with two homers, 14 RBI and three steals in 78 plate appearances. With Zobrist dealing with a hip injury Bote might more play time. It is just a matter of time that he will become a regular on the Cubs batting rotation.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Javier Baez (88)
  • Homers: Javier Baez (25)
  • Batting Average: Ben Zobrist (.313)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Kyle Hendricks, he pitched seven strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings of four-run baseball on Saturday in a victory over the Padres. He is 8-9 on the season. He’ll carry a 4.07 ERA and 1.21 WHIP into Friday’s start against the Nationals.

Game 2: Jon Lester, he gave up five earned runs over five innings Sunday in the Cubs’ loss to the Padres. He will look to redeem himself against the Nationals on Saturday. He is 12-4 on the season with a 3.44 ERA and 1.29 WHIP.

Game 3: Cole Hamels, he pitched six innings of one-run ball Monday against the Royals. He’s now allowed just one unearned run in 11 innings through his first two starts with the Cubs. He will close things out for the Cubs in the rubber game against the Nationals.

How Washington Nationals & Chicago Cubs Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Cubs are 1-5 in their last 6 after allowing 2 runs or less in their previous game.

Nationals are 5-1 in their last 6 overall.

Against The Spread Selection: Washington Nationals

My reason for the pick :

The Nationals will be able to pull off an upset on the road as they will take down the Cubs at home 2-1. The Nationals will bring their A-game into this series after beating out the Braves the momentum they have in their previous series will carry over into this series against the Cubs. I expect Bryce Harper to lead the offense for the Nationals as he tends to have big batting nights against great teams. For the Cubs, they won’t be able to contain the Nationals offense. All three games should go down to the wire since there is so much on the line.

The Nationals to beat the Cubs on the road 2-1.

Betting trends for Washington Nationals:

  • Nationals are 4-1 in their last 5 games vs. a right-handed starter.

Betting trends for Chicago Cubs:

  • Cubs are 4-0 in their last 4 games vs. a right-handed starter.
