The Rangers will welcome the Diamondbacks to Globe Life Park as the two teams will go head to head in a two-game interleague series starting on Monday. The Rangers are in the last place of the AL West division while the D-Backs in a tie for first place with the Dodgers in the NL West. This will be their second meeting of the season in their first meeting the series ended in a 1-1 split.
Game 1-2: 8:05 PM ET
Arizona Diamondbacks's Latest Performance :
The D-Backs are currently on a nine-game road trip as they will take on the Rangers in a two-game set. The D-Backs are in a tie for first place in the NL West division. The D-Backs are 32-24 when playing on the road this season. They will use this opportunity playing against the Rangers to pull away from the Dodgers in the standings. Coming into this series the D-Backs are fourth in pitching with a 3.58 ERA and 16th in batting with 521 runs scored this season. They must do a better job on the plate against bad teams in the Majors. The race for the top spot in the NL West division will be a two-team race between the D-Backs and the Dodgers.
Player to watch in this series: Paul Goldschmidt, he leads the team in RBIs and homers on the season. He has really come around for the team in the second half of the season after the shaky start to the year. He is now slashing .278/.387/.515 with 24 homers, 61 RBI, and four stolen bases. I expect him to be a factor against the Rangers on the road. He is starting to look more like himself on the plate he will play a huge role where the D-Backs end up in the standings.
- RBIs: Paul Goldschmidt (61)
- Homers: Paul Goldschmidt (24)
- Batting Average: David Peralta (.303)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Zack Greinke, he allowed one run on three hits over seven innings in a loss against the Phillies on Tuesday. He is 12-7 with a 2.89 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 152/29 K/BB ratio in 24 starts. He starts on Monday in the series opener against the Rangers.
Game 2: Patrick Corbin, he pitched a 7 1/3 shutout innings Wednesday in Arizona’s win over the Phillies. He has been on fire after the All-Star break striking out 35 hitters over 26 1/3 second-half innings. He will be looking for his fifth consecutive win against the Rangers on Tuesday.
Texas Rangers's Latest Performance :
The Rangers will be back at Globe Life Park for a six-game homestand beginning on Monday. The homestand opens with a two-game interleague series against the D-Backs. The Rangers are 25-36 when playing at home this season. The Rangers are in the last place of the AL West and it is looking like they are going to remain there till the season ends. Coming into this series the Rangers are 6th in batting with 560 runs scored this season and 27th in pitching with a 4.89 ERA. The Rangers have great batters on the team but they still need to work on their pitching to become contenders in the AL West division for many years to come.
Player to watch in this series: Ronald Guzman, he struck three solo homers in Friday’s 12-7 victory over the Yankees. The first two were against Masahiro Tanaka before he took A.J. Cole deep in the seventh. He is the first rookie to ever hit three homers in a game against the Yankees. It was his first multi-hit game. I expect him to carry over the momentum from the Yankees series onto the series against the D-Backs at home. The rookie is slashing .245/315/.439 with 12 homers and 46 RBIs.
- RBIs: Joey Gallo (71)
- Homers: Joey Gallo (31)
- Batting Average: Shin-Soo Choo (.273)
Probable Pitchers for this series:
Game 1: Bartolo Colon, he will return to the mound in a tough series opener against the D-Backs on Monday. He’s pitched to a 6.72 ERA since the beginning of June and is 6-10 on the season.
Game 2: Yovani Gallardo, he allowed three hits and two runs over six strong innings Wednesday in the Rangers’ win over the Mariners. He has won seven of nine starts since joining Texas in mid-June. He will close things out for the Rangers in the rubber game against the D-Backs Tuesday. He has a 5.24 ERA and 1.55 WHIP.
How Arizona Diamondbacks & Texas Rangers Matchup.

Diamondbacks are 10-1 in their last 11 road games vs. a team with a losing record.
Against The Spread Selection: Arizona Diamondbacks
My reason for the pick :
The D-Backs to take full advantage of this interleague series and sweep the Rangers on the road 2-0. With Greinke and Corbin controlling the mound for the D-Backs, it will be tough for the Rangers batters to break through their pitches. I am predicting a comfortable back to back victories for the two pitchers. The Rangers hasn’t been great at home all season that is unlikely going to change against the D-Backs. Although the Rangers batting is the 6th best in the Majors they still won’t be able to overcome the elite pitching from the D-Backs. The D-Backs can’t afford to drop any more winnable games if they want to head into the postseason as the National West Division Champions.
The D-Backs to sweep the Rangers on the road 2-0.
