Atlanta Braves vs Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pittsburgh Pirates take on the first-place Atlanta Braves at PNC Park on Monday night in a three-game series. The Pirates come in just a clip under .500 after losing five straight. The Braves are locked in a battle for first with the Philadelphia Phillies and looking to sweep this series and keep their stranglehold on first in the NL East. The last time these two teams banged heads was back in May of 2017 in the second series of two where the teams split after the Pirates swept the Braves in the first series.
Taking the mound to start the series will be Pirates pitcher Chris Archer (4-5, 4.49 ERA) against Braves starter Chris Gausman (7-9, 4.22 ERA).
Atlanta Braves's Latest Performance :
The Atlanta Braves have their hands full with the Phillies who are hot on their trail for first place at half a game back. The Braves have dropped a couple in a row but at least have gone 6-4 in their last ten to keep pace with the Phillies. The Braves were on a roll taking five in a row until the Colorado Rockies snapped that streak with back-to-back wins of their own.
The Braves bullpen has been solid and continues to help them win games. They’ve found an unexpected winner in righty Luke Jackson. He has struck out 38 hitters in 27 1/3 innings and has staying power for multiple innings.
Pittsburgh Pirates's Latest Performance :
The Pittsburgh Pirates are in a rut on offense that they desperately need to get out of. The Cubs blanked them with their solid defense two games in a row. One of which saw the Cubs tie an MLB record turning 7 double plays in one game. It doesn’t get much worse than that. The Pirates are making moves to help better the team and get back on track. Injuries haven’t helped them much now that shortstop Jordy Mercer has been added to the disabled list, but getting righty Chad Kuhl back will be a step in the right direction.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The Braves are in need of wins. Period. The Pirates are out of the playoff race and are trying to rebuild their team. By no means have they given up on the season, so the Braves should beware. This series won’t be as easy as they think. This is a Pirates team that came out of the All-Star break and won 8 out of 11 games and tend to step up against top teams. Just ask the Cleveland Indians. At the end of the day, the Braves should win this series and continue the quest for another NL East title.
