San Francisco Giants vs New York Mets
It’s classic East Coast meets West Coast when the New York Mets welcome the San Francisco Giants for a three-game series match-up at Citi Field that kicks off on Monday night. Both teams sit in fourth place in their respective divisions and more than likely out of the playoff picture. The last time these two teams met in New York back in June of 2017, the Giants were swept handily by the Mets in a three-game series. This is their first meeting this season.
The New York Mets will start right-hander Zack Wheeler (8-6, 3.75 ERA) in game one of the series against lefty Derek Holland (6-8, 3.83 ERA).
San Francisco Giants's Latest Performance :
The San Francisco Giants are just a clip under .500 but are safe from last -place forever occupied by the San Diego Padres. They are 4-6 in their last ten and are currently on a 2-game losing streak. To make matters worse, their $130M star pitcher Johnny Cueto is looking at season-ending Tommy John’s surgery which should also keep him out of the 2019 season as well. This season, his elbow issues have limited him to only 9 starts and 53 innings in which he was quite effective racking up a (3.23 ERA).
New York Mets's Latest Performance :
The New York Mets have had a tumultuous season and have taken a lot of abuse along the way. Despite all of the setbacks from pitching issues to bad trade deadline decisions, they are no longer in last place in the NL East. They are 6-4 in their last ten and are trying to redeem themselves and salvage what is left of their season moving into 2019. During that stretch, they dealt a punishing blow to the Philadelphia Phillies by beating their hated rivals 24-4 in Philadelphia. Maybe some payback for the 26-7 thrashing the Phillies dealt the Mets back in 1985?

In-Depth Analysis of each team:
These two teams match-up relatively well. They are having similar seasons filled with plenty of big wins coupled with a myriad of headaches and bad play. Neither will see the light of the playoffs. If the season ended today, at least the Giants would have improved a spot in the NL West after finishing fifth last season while the Mets would have matched last seasons finish. Both teams are on losing streaks so the one positive that will come out of this series is that one of these teams will have snapped that streak.
