St. Louis Cardinals vs Los Angeles Dodgers
Game 1 of a 3-game set versus the St. Louis Cardinals and the Los Angeles Dodgers will take place at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California, on Monday night at 10:10 pm EST. The Cardinals are in 3rd place within the NL Central division while the Dodgers are in 2nd place within the NL West. In their last outing, the Dodgers would come out of their present offensive funk in which to pick up the 11-1 road win versus the Mariners in what would be game 1 of a 3-game road set on 8-17-2017. They would cash in on the money line (-139) while the over was the play as total runs were set at 9 for the game. Walker Bueler (6-4) would pick up the win as he would pitch 6 innings while allowing 1 run on 3 hits, 1 homer and 8 k’s with an ERA of 3.19 while Wade LeBlanc would take the loss for the M’s as he would go 4.1 innings while allowing 7 runs on 7 hits and 3 homers with an ERA of 4.04 in the game. Manny Machado and Cody Bellinger would each have 2 hits with a combined 3 RBI’s for the Dodgers while Matt Kemp was 2-4 with 2 RBI’s in the victory. For the Mariners, Ryon Healy was 1-4 with an RBI while Nelson Cruz was 1-2 in the defeat. After losing 5-straight games, the win was the 2nd in a row for the Dodgers.
In their last outing, the Brewers would drop game 1 of a 3-game set to the Cardinals due to a 5-2 road loss. The Cards would cash in on the money line (-125) while the under was the play in that total runs were set at 8 for the game. Jack Flaherty (7-6) would pick up the victory for St. Louis as he would pitch 6 innings while allowing only 3 hits and 7 k’s with a 3.05 ERA while Freddie Peralta (5-4) would suffer the loss for the Brewers in going 6 innings while allowing 3 runs on 3 hits, 1 homer, and 5 strikeouts with an ERA of 4.48 for the game. Kolten Wong and Marcell Ozuna would each have a hit along with 2 RBI’s apiece for the Cards in the win while Christina Yelich would go 2-5 in the loss for the Brewers while Jesus Aguilar would go 1-3 with 2 RBI’s. the loss was the 2nd straight for the Brewers and 3rd in their last 4 outings.
St. Louis Cardinals's Latest Performance :
The St. Louis Cardinals come into this matchup winners of 4 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 2-2-1. The Cardinals would sweep a 3-game road set versus the Royals on 8-12-2018 while also winning a 4-game home set versus the Washington Nationals on 8-16-2018 before facing the Brewers on 8-17-2018 to which they would be victorious in a 5-2 home win.
Jose Martinez (.308 BA on 399 AB), and Yadier Molina (.282 BA on 348 AB) have been the most consistent batters at the plate for St. Louis this season. Marcell Ozuna (.270 BA on 470 AB) has also been solid at the plate for the Cardinals this year.
Miles Mikolas (12-3) has pitched 151.1 innings and allowing 52 runs on 133 hits, 11 homers, 26 walks, and 102 strikeouts with an ERA of 2.85.
Los Angeles Dodgers's Latest Performance :
The Dodgers come into this matchup losers of 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 1-3-1. Recently, after losing a 4-game road set versus the Colorado Rockies on 8-12-2018, the Dodgers would also go on to drop a 3-game home set versus division foe San Francisco Giants on 8-15-2018 before winning in their most recent matchup against the Mariners by a score of 11-1 on 8-17-2018.
Yasmani Grandal (.248 BA on 339 AB) and Cody Bellinger (.257 BA on 432 AB) have been the leaders offensively for the Dodgers this season. Chris Taylor (.248 BA on 440 AB) has also been pivotal to the Dodger’s offensive attack. Matt Kemp (.285 BA on 376 AB) and Manny Machado (.280 BA on 107 AB) have also been huge sparks for the Dodgers offense.
Alex Wood (7-6) has pitched 128.1 innings while allowing 57 runs on 117 hits, 12 homers, 31 walks, and 113 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.51 has also resurrected his overall performance lately for Los Angeles.
How St. Louis Cardinals & Los Angeles Dodgers Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
For the season, the Cardinals are 58-65 ATS while the O/U is 56-60-7. On the other hand, the Dodgers are 53-70 ATS while the O/U is 57-62-4.
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The only pitcher, thus far, that has been named for this series Austin Gomber (3-0) who will come to the mound for game 1 for the Cards looking to build from his recent success on the mound. In his last outing, he would pitch 6 innings while allowing 3 hits and 6 k’s in a 4-2 home win against the Nationals on 8-15-2018. This will be his first matchup versus the Dodgers, yet, his ERA in his last 3 starts is 2.40 with 14 strikeouts while the team is 4-0 in his last 4 starts. The under has been the play in his last 2 outings while 4 earned runs on 14 hits over 15 innings has been charged to him since becoming a starter. More importantly, Gomber has no earned runs on 7 hits in his last 2 outings and will certainly look to neutralize this dangerous Dodgers lineup that has really slowed down at the plate in averaging 3.2 runs per game during their current 1-5 skid.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Games 1 & 2: St. Louis Cardinals
My reason for the pick :
I happen to believe that the Cardinals have become a dangerous team recently as they have won 9 of their last 10 outings to where the total was 4-4-2 during this time. The Dodgers have struggled lately in dropping 5 of their last 7 outings, yet, winning their last 2. In all, I expect the Cardinals to certainly set the tone of this series early by picking up wins in the first 2 games of the set against a reeling Dodgers team that may be in danger of losing their 2nd place standing within the division if they do not begin to play better. Nonetheless, the Cardinals are on a mission of their own and with their record being 9-3 in their last 12 home games, I see the Cardinals pulling out 2 much-needed wins to begin this series.
Totals Selection: Pick: Game 3: Under
My reason for the prediction :
The under has been the play in 2 of the last 3 for the Cards while also being the result in 5 of the last 7 games for the Dodgers. With that being said, with these teams not being very familiar with each other, I would expect the under to be the result in the majority of the games for this series. Again, the Cardinals pitching has been allowing opponents to average less than 4 runs per game in their last 5 games while the Dodgers pitching has surrendered 15 runs in their last 5 games. In all, expect competitive, low-scoring contests for this series.
