Texas Rangers's Latest Performance :
The Texas Rangers have won 4 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 4-1. Recently, after losing a 4-game road set versus the Yankees on 8-1`2-2018, the Rangers would tie a 2-game home set versus the Arizona Diamondbacks on 8-14-2018. In their following series, a 4-game home set versus the Los Angeles Angels, they would go up 2 games to none after a 6-4 win in game two (which followed an 8-6 win in the opener).
Nomar Mazara (.272 BA on 360 AB) has been the most effective offensive star thus far for the Rangers. On the other hand, Shin-Soo Choo (.281 BA on 449 AB) and Joey Gallo (.203 BA on 403 AB) have also been solid all-season long.
Bartolo Colon (7-10) has also pitched 135.1 innings while allowing 80 runs on 148 hits, 26 homers, 23 walks, and 75 strikeouts with an ERA of 5.19. Mike Minor (9-6) has also pitched 123 innings while allowing 66 runs on 116 hits, 20 homers, 27 walks, and 100 strikeouts with an ERA of 4.61.
Oakland Athletics's Latest Performance :
The Oakland Athletics have won 4 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 2-3. Recently, the A’s would win a 3-game road set versus the Angels on 8-12-2018 while also picking up a series win in a 3-game home set in their following series versus the Seattle Mariners on 8-15-2018. This momentum would translate into a 3-game home set versus the Houston Astros as they would ick up the game 1 win by a 4-3 score on 8-17-2018.
Jed Lowrie (.273 BA on 455 AB), Stephen Piscotty (.251 BA on 407 AB), Marcus Semien (.263 BA on 487 AB), and Matt Chapman (.278 BA on 388 AB) have been the offensive leaders for the Athletics this year while Matt Olson (.240 BA on 446 AB) and Khris Davis (.252 B on 429 AB) have also been critical components to the offense for Oakland.
Sean Manaea (11-8, 151.2 IP, 60 R, 127 H, 19 HR, 31 BB, 102 SO, 3.44 ERA) has been the leader for this Oakland pitching staff all year.
How Texas Rangers & Oakland Athletics Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
For the season, the Athletics are 61-61 ATS while the O/U is 55-59-8. On the other hand, the Rangers are 65-59 ATS while the O/U is 59-56-5.
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
There are no pitchers assigned for this matchup, however, it only allows us time to focus on the total for this potentially exciting series. The Texas Rangers have won 6 of their last 10 games and while they have not played exactly winning baseball against their division foe this year, they would get the tie earlier in the season in a 4-game set at Alameda Coliseum on 4-5-2018. The Athletics continue to roll as they have picked up wins in 11 of their last 14 games while also winning 9 of the last 11 games at home. This matchup will be interesting in that one has to wonder how long the A’s can actually keep this pace. And with the postseason becoming a no-go for the Rangers, they are simply attempting to end their campaign on a winning note moving forward.
Against The Spread Selection: Game 1 & 2: Oakland Athletics
My reason for the pick :
Texas has certainly picked things up lately, particularly on offense, as they have plated 25 runs in their last 5 outings. The pitching staff, on the other hand, has suffered lately in surrendering 26 runs during this time. Oakland has also plated 25 runs their last 5 games while their staff has allowed an average of 3.4 runs per game to their opponents. The fact of the matter is that despite their recent wins, the A’s are the better team in this instance. Furthermore, at home, where they are 36-24 on the year, I would expect them to pick up a win in this series in the first 2 games of the set to set the tone. In all, Oakland has been dominant against the Rangers this season in winning 10 of the last 13 matchups, and this trend will continue in this series.
Totals Selection: Game 3: Under
My reason for the prediction :
The under has been the play in 7 of the last 12 games amongst these two squads while it has also been the play in 9 of the last 11 games for the Oakland A’s along with being the result in 3 of the last 6 games for the Rangers. While both offenses have been putting up around 5 runs per game in their recent outings, I happen to feel as though both pitching staffs have been pitching well enough lately to neutralize the dangerous bats for each team. At least, enough to prevent the run count from surpassing its set total for the series. In all, I will back the under throughout this series as the matchups between these two have proven that their contests are competitive and low-scoring.
