The Twins will welcome the Athletics to Target Field as both teams will go head to head in a four-game series starting on Thursday. The Twins are second in the AL Central division while the A’s are leading the AL West. This will be their first meeting of the season.

Oakland Athletics's Latest Performance :

The A’s will begin their seven-game road trip against the Twins. The A’s are arguably the hottest team in the Major right now winning 41 of their last 55 games. They are on the top spot of the AL West division with a record of 75-50. The A’s are 37-25 when playing on the road this season. The A’s are coming off a dominant series win against the Rangers which includes a shutout game where the A’s put up nine runs.  Coming into this series the A’s are 10th in pitching with a 3.78 ERA and 8th in batting with 595 runs scored this season.

Player to watch in this series: Ramon Laureano, he went 2-for-5 with two homers and five RBI in a blowout win over the Rangers on Monday. It was his first two career homer in the Majors, he has had an immediate impact with Oakland since his being called up on August 3. He is hitting .281/.281/.469, and he’s driven in eight runs in his 12 games. I expect him to carry over the momentum on the plate against the Twins on the road.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Khris Davis (99)
  • Homers: Khris Davis (37)
  • Batting Average: Matt Chapman (.275)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Trevor Cahill, he pitched seven shutout innings, allowing a lone hit while striking out seven, to lead the Athletics to a 7-1 win over the Astros on Saturday. He is 5-2 with a 3.12 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 85/25 K/BB ratio over 15 starts this year. He starts in the series opener on Thursday.

Game 2: Sean Manaea, he allowed six runs over four innings with five strikeouts in a loss to the Astros on Sunday. He has a 3.70 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and 107/31 K/BB ratio. He will take on the Twins on Friday.

Game 3: Mike Fiers, he gave up just one hit over seven scoreless innings in a 9-0 victory. He has allowed just three runs in 18 1/3 innings with the A’s. He will carry a 3.21 ERA and 1.16 WHIP into a Saturday matchup against the Twins.

Game 4: Brett Anderson, he will close things out for the A’s in the rubber game against the Twins on Sunday. He is 2-3 on the season with a 3.90 ERA and 1.30 WHIP through 11 starts.

Minnesota Twins's Latest Performance :

The Twins will return home for a brief four-game homestand going up against the red-hot Athletics. The Twins are a decent team when playing at home this season they are 38-26 when playing in Target Field. Despite playing well at home this season it will be a tough matchup going up against the A’s who are playing out of their minds at the moment. Coming into this series the Twins are 16th in batting with 569 runs scored this season and 22nd in pitching with a 4.48 ERA. The Twins are out of any playoff contention because they are 15 1/2 back of the Wild Card spot. The Twins will use the remainder of the season to develop their young talents.

Player to watch in this series: Jake Cave, he went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer, it was his second straight game with a homer for the Twins. He’s hitting .276 with 29 runs scored, six homers, 25 RBI and one steal in just 164 plate appearances. He will continue to get more time on the plate as the season goes on. The rookie will be ready for a juicy matchup against the A’s.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: Eddie Rosario (71)
  • Homers: Eddie Rosario (22)
  • Batting Average: Eddie Rosario (.291)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Kohl Stewart, he allowed three runs in 2 2/3 innings against the Tigers on Saturday. He will return to the mound on Thursday in the series opener against a tough team like the A’s.

Athletics are 40-12 in their last 52 vs. a team with a losing record.

Against The Spread Selection: Oakland Athletics

My reason for the pick :

The A’s are firing on all cylinders at the moment and I don’t see the A’s slowing down any time soon as they will beat out the Twins on the road 3-1. The A’s are looking like a postseason team as the season progresses. The addition of Fiers will help the A’s down the line, the players on the A’s team are playing with full confidence both in batting and pitching. The A’s are on a mission to win the West and Billy Beane is making a serious case for GM of the year while Khris Davis is now the front-runner for MVP this season.

The A’s to beat the Twins on the road 3-1.

Betting trends for Oakland Athletics:

  • Athletics are 41-14 in their last 55 overall.

Betting trends for Minnesota Twins:

  • Twins are 1-4 in their last 5 games vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15.
