Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Tennessee Titans vs Pittsburgh Steelers

The Tennessee Titans will travel to Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to take on the Steelers on Saturday at 4:00 pm EST for a week 2 NFL preseason matchup.  Both teams are coming off embarrassing loss with the Steelers dropping a contest to the Green Bay Packers by a 51-34 score on 8-16-2018 to where the Packers would cover the spread (-6) while the over was the play with the total being set at 43 points.  The Titans would also lose, but, at home by a 30-14 score at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on 8-18-2018 as the Bucs would cover the spread (+3) as underdogs while the over was the play with the total being set at 43 points for the game.  This game will pit a Steelers offense that is ranked 7th in total yards per game (358) while averaging 32.5 ppg (2nd) against a Titans defensive unit that is allowing 437 yards per game (32nd) while surrendering an average of 31 ppg (29th).  On the other hand, the Titans offense, ranked 14th in the league thus far, is averaging 321 yards per game while putting up 16 points per game (28th) against a Steelers D allowing 341 yards per game (22nd) while surrendering 33 points per game (30th).  This matchup essentially will come down to which team would like to stop the other from scoring.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Needless to say, one could conclude that it is not so much the loss at Green Bay in week 2, but, the way in which to Steelers lost the game, in general.  The Pack hung 34 points on the Steelers in the 1st half while Pittsburgh starters were still taking snaps, and would dominate the game, overall, by game’s end.  This matchup will be an interesting one in that one must wonder about how the loss affected this Steelers squad.  Or did it have an impact.  We will surely find out if that is the case and to what extent during this mathcup.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Pittsburgh Steelers -4

My reason for the pick :

The Titans have not played well on defense this year thus far.  With that being said, the Steelers have played much better, particularly due to an offensive punch they have illustrated, yet, they have had issues on the defensive side of the ball that need to be addressed as well, and starting this week.  I happen to believe that the Steelers will be looking forward to this game after their last loss to the Pack in week 2.  They will return to basics against a Tennessee offense that has struggled putting points on the board while also have had its problems with their defensive secondary.  In all, the Steelers will return to form in this matchup on Saturday along with covering the spread for their 2nd win of the preseason.

Totals Selection: Pick: Over

My reason for the prediction :

Again, both teams are working out some issues on the defensive side of the ball.  It is for this reason that I will back the over in this contest in that I see the Steelers offense moving at will against this Titans squad.  On the other hand, I also see the Titans putting some points on the board against a Steelers team that has really struggled against the pass thus far.
