Boston Red Sox vs Tampa Bay Rays

The Rays will welcome the Red Sox to Tropicana Field as the two teams from the AL East will go head to head in a three-game series starting on Friday. The Rays are third in the division while the Red Sox are leading the division. This will be their sixth meeting of the year, the Red Sox lead the season series 4-1 over the Rays.

Game 1: 7:10 PM ET

Game 2: 6:10 PM ET

Game 3: 1:10 PM ET

Boston Red Sox's Latest Performance :

The Red Sox will hit the road for a brief road-trip to Tampa to play the Rays in a three-game set. The Red Sox are locked in for the number one seed for the playoffs with 88 wins on the year. The Red Sox are coming off a series loss against the Indians. The Red Sox main priority at the moment is to keep everyone on the team healthy and ready for the postseason because the heavy lifting is already done. Coming into this series the Red Sox are the best team in batting with 684 runs scored this season and second in pitching with a 3.50 ERA. The Red Sox shouldn’t have a problem playing against the Rays because they have beaten them a week ago.

Player to watch in this series: J.D. Martinez, he is having the best season as a Red Sox since been traded from the Tigers. I expect him to return to his own self on the plate after struggling against the Indians in the previous series. He has 38 homers and 106 RBIs on the season while slashing .331/.401/.658. It is normal for a great player like Martinez to have an off series he will be just fine on the road against the Rays.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: J.D. Martinez (106)
  • Homers: J.D. Martinez (38)
  • Batting Average: Mookie Betts (.340)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Chris Sale, he will be making his return to the mound on Friday after dealing with a shoulder injury, he will be pitching against the Rays in the series opener. He is 12-4 on the year with a 1.97 ERA and 0.85 WHIP.

Game 2: Rick Porcello, he allowed five earned runs over seven innings Monday in a loss to the Indians. He will be looking to redeem himself against an easier opponent like the Rays on Saturday. He’s now 15-6 on the season with a 4.14 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 156/37 K/BB ratio in 158 2/3 innings.

Game 3: Nathan Eovaldi, he allowed four runs on 10 hits and a walk over 5 1/3 frames in Tuesday’s loss to the Indians. He has struggled the last three times out with a 6.23 ERA and 27 hits allowed over 13 innings. He will look for a better result in the rubber game on Sunday against the Rays.

Tampa Bay Rays's Latest Performance :

The Rays will cap off their seven-game homestand against the Red Sox in a three-game set. The Rays are third in the AL East division with a record of 65-61. The Rays playoffs chances are very slim since they are now 11 games back of the Wild Card spot. The Rays have a hard time playing against the Red Sox this season losing to the Red Sox already four times this season. The Rays are a solid team at home this season they are 36-24 when playing at home. Coming into this series the Rays are 23rd in batting with 517 runs scored this season and 7th in pitching with a 3.72 ERA with Blake Snell leading the way.

Player to watch in this series: Willy Adames, went 3-for-4 and homered against the Royals on Tuesday. In August he is batting .356 with four homers and 10 RBI in 59 at-bats. He will look to continue his hot batting against the Red Sox at home. The rookie will be looking to end the season strong. The Rays might have found someone they can build the team around for the future.

Team leaders:

  • RBIs: C.J. Cron (59)
  • Homers: C.J. Cron (24)
  • Batting Average: Mallex Smith (.302)

Probable Pitchers for this series:

Game 1: Jalen Beeks, he gets the start in the series opener against the Red Sox after pitching four scoreless innings out of the bullpen. He has a 2.37 ERA with 17 strikeouts over 19 innings across four appearances this month.

Game 2: Ryan Yarbrough, he pitched five innings of allowing two hits striking out six against and was rewarded with a win against the Royals. He faces a very tough Red Sox team on Saturday. He has a 3.84 ERA and 1.26 WHIP.

Game 3: Blake Snell, he struck out 11 while allowing one run over six innings in Tuesday’s victory against the Royals. He has 160 strikeouts in 139 innings on the season and his ERA is down to 2.07 and 1.01 WHIP.

How Boston Red Sox & Tampa Bay Rays Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Rays are 5-2 in their last 7 overall.

Red Sox are 39-13 in their last 52 overall.

Against The Spread Selection: Boston Red Sox

My reason for the pick :

The Red Sox should bounce back from the series loss against the Indians and beat out the Rays 2-1 on the road. This will be the second meeting between the two teams in a span of five days. The Red Sox will return at their best batting wise winning the first two games with ease. The Red Sox batters will have a tough time figuring out Snell’s pitches as he is rolling on the mound carrying his best stuff ever since the All-Star Break. With more than a month left in the season, we can now see a clear picture of whether who is making the postseason from the AL East division.

The Red Sox to beat the Rays on the road 2-1.

Betting trends for Boston Red Sox:

  • Red Sox are 15-7 in their last 22 vs. a team with a winning record.

Betting trends for Tampa Bay Rays:

  • Rays are 24-8 in their last 32 home games.
